SHAPESHOOTER is literally an on-rail shooter, you'll have to clear colonies across 4 planets from a little creatures infestation called polygoneers. But that's not important, you'll not get a story here. You'll get frenetic action, insane music and a super hard challenge!

Introduction From the developer of Polygoneer comes Shapeshooter. It's a rail shooter, you can only move forward and backward over the rail tracks. Like in Polygoneer you have colored enemies which you destroy with bullets of the same color albeit limited to two colors. You can upgrade your tank in the workshop. Gameplay You control a tank which moves over a rail, you'll find orange and purple enemies on your way and you shoot at them with bullets of their respective color. There are also level hazards to avoid like energy gates and circular saws, I expect more hazards to encounter in later levels. You have multiple weapons you can use although at the beginning you're stuck with a slow weapon with unlimited ammo and a rapid weapon with limited ammo. When an enemy is destroyed they leave a ring you can collect and use to purchase upgrades in the workshop. Some enemies release ammo pickups which alternate between ammo for the different weapons. To gather what you want you have to time your pick up. You can either pick them up with your tank or by shooting at them. Levels Each level has savepoints to make it a bit easier to complete. Although in some of the harder levels it's best to not use them and start over, because you don't restart from a savepoint with max health. Going through a savepoint also restores some of your lost health bars. Once you've completed a level you can replay it to improve your best score, best time and/or grade. Workshop In the workshop you can upgrade your tank and your weapons. You should do this as soon as possible because the vanilla tank is slow and vulnerable with three empty weapon slots. Once your tank is fully upgraded you can fly through levels in record time. Control You can choose between using a controller or a keyboard + mouse combination. A (Wacom) pen+tablet works as well. For whatever reason when using a controller the turret moves very slowly while with a mouse/tablet the turret moves instantly. So at least for now I'd advice against playing the game with a controller. If you have a mouse with remappable buttons it helps to assign the middle mouse button, Enter and Tab to the side buttons. That way you can switch weapons while shooting and restart quicker. When you're using keyboard + mouse the controller doesn't seem to do anything in game. However if you open Steam's Controller Config you can assign "Z" and "X" to the d-pad or stick allowing you to control the tank with your (one handed) controller while aiming with the mouse! Video Here's a recording of me playing level 3-1: https://youtu.be/VsBCwfeVgYg Conclusion It's a shame there are no leaderboards but it has achievements you can try to unlock. It would have been nice if you were able to remap keys, but overall I can recommend this game if you enjoy playing frantic little shooters with mouse and keyboard. I would have bought the game sooner or later if I hadn't found a Steam key for it from the developer in my Steam news feed, it pays to follow games you'd like to have :)
It provides an insane challenge, not only to your aim but also to your atention. Infinte shapes with eyes will haunt your nightmares as they are envy that you are a TANK! And now you must shoot them your way in order to advance and shoot more of them in an infinite vicious cycle of shape murdering. Also the flashing background and non-stop electronic music will complete your psychedelic trip to the slaughter as your brain melts beat by beat. The bass drum resounds as parts of your enemies are thrown in the screen and you realize you are stuck on a loop of endless killing. It continues until one ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ arrow shaped bastard appears out of nowhere and throws you back to the last checkpoint. Then you rage quit and return to a boring reality, living paycheck to paycheck, paying bills and the rent and discussing the weather in public transport. But the eyed shapes will still haunt your nightmares ... forever.
This is a pretty nice game. I really like the mood and OST. Game mechanics is unique, maybe you'll need spend some time to master it, but game boosts fun when you get it.
This game has disappointed me a lot. It looks like fun from the videos, but it's not. The controls feel very clunky, and the menu for changing weapons is pretty bad. The game consists of advancing down a lane and destroying enemies and dodging traps until you reach a save point, but it is quite boring and uncomfortable to play. The graphics are not bad. The music and sound effects are the best in the game. 4 asterisks Asteriskel rating:* * * *

The premise is alright, but the controls is very difficult to get a good feeling. Plus, the colors you have to match are orange and purple, and while that isn't a bad thing it would've been a million times better if it were blue and green or another combination of colors that match the Xbox controller buttons.
Very well done, engaging game, I highly recommend it! Congratulations!
