Game has been officially cancelled by Dev. They sent out an email on 9-18-21 I advise anyone NOT to buy as the game is not worth playing in it's current and final state.
Shallow Space is a deep, unique, and beautiful RTS! Even though the game is only in early access at the moment the devs are frequently updating and adding to the gameplay experience. This will doubltessly be a game for anyone who is looking for a space RTS that has depth and customization. Pros: - Devs are very active interacting and taking community feedback - they're also plugging away at this game basically every 2 weeks a big update hits in the Alpha so far - Customization of ships is pretty awesome a good number of modules to choose from that can really vary a fleet - GRAPHICS!!! I'm not normally a graphic ♥♥♥♥♥ but the ships and the enviornements are beautfully rendered. Even little things like shield resisters lighting up when a ship gets hit blow me away especially considering the game is only in Alpha - The Devs also have a pretty clear roadmap so you should have a pretty good idea of what the game will include which is nice considering sometimes Early Access games offer a lot of vague promises Cons: - Not every system is in the game you might say duh its a EA title, but it does leave for less replayability than the beta or of course the final product will have - only 1 of the 8 factions that will be in the game is playable right now - Some systems aren't clearly explained as I'd like (tooltips) Overall it is shaping up to be a great game! While I can't wait for the final product I have already managed to put 10 hours in it! Further development of this game has been canceled, and as it is it is little more than a tech demo. It should not be on sale, let alone on sale for 15 USD. If you have the time and capability to update the Early Access description to say that the project is canceled, you have the time to pull the game from sale.
What a scam.
I paid for the game just for them to decide to cancel it and run with my money, i personally won't be buying any products from this developer ever again.
UPDATE 09/23/2021: The game is now officially dead, as per the main dev's latest Announcement here and on the game's website after 4-5 months of no updates since April 2021. The major redesign attempting to pivot the game's genre from 3D-space RPG/RTS to 2D-space grid-based MMORTS (which most of the community disagreed with) proved to be too much of a hurdle, combined with the existing rocky relationship with the game's community from the first time the dev disappeared. This game was extremely promising in terms of both mechanics and theme (and the great graphics), but is currently unfinished and barely playable as a limited/buggy sandbox. If you're wondering about the history behind all the negative reviews: essentially this game was under development and then the lead dev (and potentially others from the team) ghosted the community and stopped updates partway through early access due to (to the best of my knowledge) some creative conflicts, personal issues between members of the dev team, financial issues, and just getting fed up with development. They then dropped all communications, and the community only received any information about what happened months later due to someone who had contact with the lead dev on a different platform. So this game was abandonware from 2017-2020.
This game has potential. Is a little rough around the edges at the moment but the developers are willing to implement player ideas and work with players. That in itself is more than I can say for most. Will happily keep an eye on it and play this game as it works towards its final goal.
Do not touch this game with a barge-pole. It's nothing more than a scam; the developers fooled early-access buyers with an engaging-looking 3D space RTS, then dropped off the face of the planet and took the money with them, leaving behind a 'game' that was little more than a proof-of-concept. Now they're back, full of enthusiasm and insincere apologies, entirely up-front about the fact that they're now producing something entirely different. It's not 3D, it's not single-player, it's not really an RTS as far as I can make out. Whatever the hell they're making, it has absolutely nothing to do with what they sold people over two years ago. Do not give these people your money. They don't deserve it.
Game is abandoned. Do Not Buy!
