Get the original Shadowhand instead. I bought this game because I highly enjoy the solitaire games from this developer and I loved the original Shadowhand. While I expected more of a sequel to the original (I did not bother reading anything about the game and just bought it on sale, so that's on me), it instantly became apparant that this was not a sequel at all. At that point I could've refunded the game but I said whatever and played through it again on the highest difficulty setting from start to finish. The game removes everything that made the original game unique. You used to have to switch up your gear a lot in order to battle the different enemies in duels so there was a nice additional layer of strategy that I never saw in any other solitaire game. In this game you basically pick the objectively better item every time since the enemies no longer have strenghs and weaknesses. A bunch of items are just completely identical so they could've easily been removed without bloating the shop or inventory. The consumables of the original game are also removed completely (which I didn't mind). This version is often called Shadowhand on easy mode. I would argue that is not true. I don't think this game is any easier, it's just dumbed-down, removing the additional strategy layer, making this a lot more in line with their Regency Solitaire titles. It's not a bad game per se but it is a step back from the original in my opinion.
This is a casual version of the original Shadowhand game, where all the turn-based battles have been taken out. Otherwise, the story, graphics, and levels are the same. The levels which were formerly battle levels are now one-up, one-down solitaire games, with a token animated "battle" at the end. Some of the weapons and clothing items from the original game were removed, as well as all the consumables. The weapons and clothing now go only towards buffing up aspects of the solitaire play. There's a new passive ability card which unlocks late in the game to help with getting a higher multiplier. It's way easier without the battles, but there's still some grind factor because the cards still won't cooperate with you at times. I completed the game 3 separate times to fully try out the 3 difficulty levels, and it was about the same amount of time per playthrough (~10 hours to beat per run, with 3 stars on all levels). To compare, it took me well over 100 hours to do the same with the original, and there was much more of a difficulty gradient between relaxed, normal, and hard modes. Not a bad makeover for those wanting a casual game and has a great storyline. It's not the total cakewalk the Regency Solitaire games are because the layouts are bigger. But I prefer the original Shadowhand with all the extra strategy involved for the duels.
I enjoy playing solitaire games from Grey Alien. It has to be said, however, that Shadowhand Solitaire is just a rehash of the original Shadowhand game, using the same artwork, the same sound effects and even the same story. In that regard, it wasn't good value for money. To keep churning out games as if they are full games when they are more like extra levels is taking advantage of the buyer somewhat.
I played the first Shadowhand a while ago, and enjoyed it. I am in the middle of playing this one, and it is also providing a good time. This game is the easier of the two, so I would recommend playing this one first, and then the second one. They are both on sale now, so you can get them both for around $15 for both of them. (The other one is less than $4). I have other solitaire games in my collection, but I feel like these are the most fun and polished.
Not as good as previous Grey Alien solitaire games, quite frankly. But, it still scratches that base itch if you just want to chill out and click on cards. Levels as you near the end of the game get kind of annoying -- when I beat them, I feel more that it's because I got a lucky overall draw, vs figuring out a path through a hard but fair game. Some of the layouts have a tendency to just really hose you over. Overall, mild thumbs-up [edit after playing further: I'm tilting more towards barely thumbs-down now, see below], but buy their earlier solitaire games first if you haven't played those. Update: the later rounds really do become punishing "did I get a lucky draw" fests, completely kills the fun and momentum. Also, for something that presents itself as a light frilly regency adventure tale, the heroine straight-up murders a metric crapton of people during "duels". To say it feels incongruous is an understatement. I'm trying to finish it out of sheer obstinacy at this point. Why, I dunno :)
It's solitaire with fancy graphics and a chance you'll get invested in fictional Regency-era problems. Want to unwind at the end of the day with some good old card game? Look no further. A truly relaxing way to procrastinate on real responsibilities.
This is the most violent Solitaire game I've ever played.
This is my first time playing the Shadowhand Solitaire and I really like it. Great graphics, great music. My only problem is that my experience with this developer was when I played Regency Solitaire I & II, which I really enjoyed, but this game does not use a traditional card set, which I find a little disappointing. It doesn't really feel like a card game, let alone 'Solitaire.' It's more like a puzzle game. I really recommend this game and I hope everyone supports this developer.
