Havent had a skate sim experience like this since I first played the OG Skate games back in the aughts. This has that blend of frustration mixed with super content when you figure out a move & get it regularly. Also, I think this is a "skaters game"- its not an arcadey, backflip off a roof to a switch lazer darkslide nollie impossible out kinda Tony Hawk game. Its one of those, "holy sht! I just backside lipslid this 7 stair rail!" kinda game. Its a skate game for skaters that know how hard even some "simple" tricks are, and maybe im showing my age, but remember when you didnt need to flip into & out of every trick on a pro segment. Its difficulty is a bit high, but I also think thats a good payoff for the slower pace of the game. Its super refreshing not to be going 40mph after 3 pushes. Probably the biggest reason I can recommend the game though, is the shoes. The gear could use quite a bit of additions to make it a lot better, but it already gets an A+/S+ for the sole simple fact of having THE best skate shoe ever made in the history of skating, EVER, the legendary eš Sal 23s. Not just in the Black & White either, they actually included the White, Tan, & Crimson too IIRC. if you know, you know. That's how I know this game was made by (or at least has real skaters hands on with developers) actual skaters. I cant tell you how hyped I was when I saw that little 23. I would like to see a few more notable brands in the deck & clothing section, but its fine. Youll probably find something you like. One thing I think they could change that would be a big quality of life improvement, is let you change your deck size. I never rode an 8.25 or an 8.5, or a 7.5. Let me pick the deck, select the size I want (for normal modern decks). I always rode anywhere from 7.75 to an 8 max, usually a 7.87/88 if they had it. Its also kinda weird the trucks are set by size as well, rather than having it the same way - just pick the trucks you want, then the size you want for your deck. There could also be some other little things like maybe try to get some bearing sponsors like Lucky & Bones, have a grip-tape editor & let ME pick how I want my deck to look, and even throw in some stickers so you could change a deck how you want. Or, you could bring stickers with you to spots and mark up territory. That would be super accurate łol. Theres a few other things, but if you were a big fan of the first skate game & its control & style, its more sim nature, youll probably really like this. Its a solid game and something Id recommend ANYONE play over the EA garbage invasive anti-cheat, non-linux running, microtransaction infested, fortnite on a skateboard trash theyre shoveling now. Play this instead. And wear the Sal 23s.
