$5.00 goes a long way on steam with sales, spend it elsewhere. Played the game all the way through on normal but the final fight is disgustingly over-tuned compared to the entirety of the game. Max level and committing all of your PERMINATE ability score increases into your team with full gear is not enough. I don't expect the final fight to be a cake-walk but this is nearly unplayable. Considering not even 5% of people (as of this review) have beaten act III on normal difficulty, I'd say this game needs a balance run before you buy it. Even worse yet is that the AoE bomb mechanics (big red X on the ground, move out of it) have a radius BIGGER than the graphic. You'll move out of the ability and still get hit. This isn't that big of a deal though out the game but when the final boss is so unbalanced it means you get one shot. I hadn't gotten one shot at any other point in the game so it. The entire rest of the game is fine, worth the 5 dollars this is currently going for but jfc this final fight ruins the experience. It really does feel like either no one played the game before release or the person playing made the most optimized build imaginable and thought it was fine. No way to target gear or even know what you can make, it's all random. Huge gold/scrap/time sink into every random chance for a single slot, multiply this over 2 slots for 4 characters, then consider there are trinkets you CAN'T craft and a potion/fish slot that gets consumed EVERY ATTEMPT. They don't come back after a wipe so you're stuck constantly farming for random chances on everything. There is also no guides I've found and not a lot of people playing this, very limited resources to look to for help.
The game is okay. Nothing special but I'd be proud of it if I'd made it? I'm giving this a thumbs down because much of the difficulty of this game stems from the controls not being very good. Honestly the difference between a thumbs up and a thumbs down here is like.. the ability to select a squad by drawing a square with my cursor. Not actually, but it's that and a few other choice things such as not being able to re-arrange the party members.
Pretty much the closest to being the simultaneously best and worst game I've ever played in my life. It was so tempting to write this exact same review but with a negative. PROS: Highly engaging warcraft 3-esq micro-heavy gameplay, if you relax for 2 seconds you die. I like the art style, fits the game well. Gameplay loop is good. CONS: The amount of grinding might be ok in a normal rpg, but ur literally fighting for ur f***ing ever single fight. 2x exp and gold probably would have made the game perfect. You get a bunch of party members but once you start spending permanent upgrade potions ur basically locked into the same party for the whole game it is prettyyy lame. Sometimes you get crazy spawns and just instantly die. LAST BOSS IS UTTER ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WHY DOES MY DOG DISAPPEAR ON THE LAST FORM THAT IS LIKE THE ENTIRETY OF THE SKILL TREE I ALREADY GAVE THE GUN DUDE LIKE EVERY ATTACK POTION IN THE GAME In conclusion, the premise of this game is exactly what I want and I don't know of any other games that exist like this (if you know please tell me). I would buy a sequel or a remaster in a heartbeat if they just tuned it up ever so slightly.
I had this game in my hidden section for a long time, tried it again, and it was awful. I was continuing from a level six save file in the snow area. Controls are super clunky, your party is mostly unresponsive, and I have no idea how I got far enough for enemy encounters to consistently slaughter me
is good
I used to like this game until I got to the final boss portal on a hardcore run with only two deaths, only to get stuck wedged between the portal and a wall. I spent 16 hours only to get soft locked at the very end of the game.
