Sense of The Devil is an indie first-person horror shooter that blends medieval folklore, supernatural horror, and survival-focused exploration into a dark fantasy experience inspired heavily by legends surrounding Baba Yaga and cursed forests. Developed by Racing Bros and published by ANPA.US, the game places players inside a grim world filled with demonic creatures, abandoned ruins, and dangerous wilderness where survival depends on limited weaponry and constant caution. Although the project clearly operates within the limitations of a small-budget indie production, it still manages to create moments of genuine atmosphere and tension through its unusual setting and oppressive tone. The story begins with a desperate plea for help after a hunter’s daughter disappears inside a forbidden forest feared by the surrounding villages. According to local legends, anyone who enters the woods never returns, and strange creatures are said to wander through the darkness. The game uses this setup to establish an atmosphere rooted heavily in folklore and supernatural mystery. Rather than relying on modern military horror or futuristic science fiction, Sense of The Devil embraces medieval horror themes where primitive firearms and close-range weapons are humanity’s only defense against demonic forces lurking in the shadows. One of the game’s strongest qualities is its setting. Medieval horror remains relatively uncommon compared to modern zombie shooters or science-fiction survival games, and the dark folkloric atmosphere helps the game stand apart despite its technical limitations. Dense forests, ruined structures, abandoned villages, and fog-covered paths create a constant sense of isolation and vulnerability. The primitive nature of the world also reinforces the horror because players never feel fully equipped to deal with the supernatural threats surrounding them. Gameplay focuses mainly on exploration and combat as players move deeper into the cursed wilderness while fighting monsters and uncovering pieces of the larger mystery. Encounters involve a mixture of ranged combat and close-quarters fighting against grotesque creatures and demonic enemies inspired by folklore and horror fantasy. The game attempts to balance slower atmospheric exploration with moments of sudden danger, using darkness, restricted visibility, and environmental tension to keep players uneasy during progression. The enemy variety helps maintain interest throughout the journey. Smaller creatures appear regularly during exploration, while larger demonic entities and boss encounters provide more intense combat moments. These larger enemies are designed to break the slower pacing with more aggressive battles that force players to react quickly while managing limited resources. While the combat mechanics themselves remain fairly simple, the creature designs and supernatural themes give the experience a distinct identity. Atmosphere is ultimately where the game performs best. The environments often feel oppressive and hostile, with dark forests and isolated ruins creating an effective sense of dread despite the limited graphical fidelity. Wandering through dimly lit pathways while hearing distant creature sounds and unsettling ambient noises creates moments of tension that occasionally become genuinely immersive. The game clearly prioritizes mood and environmental horror over fast-paced action, and some sections succeed surprisingly well at making players feel uneasy. The audio design contributes significantly to this atmosphere. Ambient sounds, eerie music, and unsettling creature noises help reinforce the sense of danger during exploration. The soundtrack remains relatively restrained, allowing environmental sounds and sudden audio shifts to create much of the tension. While the sound design is not especially advanced technically, it supports the game’s horror tone effectively enough to strengthen immersion during quieter moments. Visually, Sense of The Devil shows clear signs of being a low-budget indie project. Character models, animations, environmental textures, and combat effects often appear rough and inconsistent. Some areas lack detail, and enemy movement occasionally feels awkward or unfinished. However, the dark fantasy art direction and oppressive lighting occasionally compensate for these limitations by creating visually memorable environments despite the technical shortcomings. Unfortunately, the game struggles heavily with polish. Combat feels clunky during many encounters, with stiff shooting mechanics and inconsistent enemy behavior reducing the impact of battles. Weapon handling lacks responsiveness, and larger fights can become frustrating due to awkward animations and rough hit detection. The technical limitations become increasingly noticeable during extended play sessions, especially when combat intensity increases. Repetition is another major weakness. Objectives and exploration patterns often feel repetitive, with players repeatedly moving through similar environments while fighting waves of monsters. Although the atmosphere initially creates strong tension, the gameplay loop eventually loses momentum because encounters and progression structures rarely evolve in meaningful ways. The narrative itself also remains relatively basic. The central mystery surrounding the missing girl and the cursed forest provides enough motivation to move forward, but the story rarely develops into something emotionally memorable. Much of the lore stays surface-level, relying on familiar folklore and horror themes without exploring them deeply enough to create stronger emotional investment. Despite these flaws, Sense of The Devil still possesses a certain appeal for players who enjoy rough indie horror projects with unique concepts and dark atmosphere. The medieval horror setting alone gives the game a distinct identity rarely seen within first-person horror shooters, and the folklore-inspired themes help create moments that feel genuinely eerie and memorable despite the lack of polish. What ultimately makes the game interesting is not technical quality or mechanical innovation, but the atmosphere created through its unusual setting and grim tone. The mixture of medieval monster hunting, supernatural folklore, and survival horror creates an experience that feels different from the countless modern horror shooters built around zombies or military action. Sense of The Devil is ultimately a flawed but atmospheric horror experience that succeeds more through mood and setting than through gameplay execution. While rough combat, technical issues, and repetitive progression hold it back significantly, players interested in dark fantasy horror and folklore-inspired survival games may still find enjoyment within its eerie and unsettling world. It's not horror of any kind, but a very nice arena shooter. I like it.
Неплохая игра для фарма достижений) Слава фембоям
It's hard to call this a game...
