Poor man's version of 7 Billion Humans. That in itself isn't a bad thing, since 7BH is a very good game, so even a poor imitation can be decent, and I actually had fun for the most part playing this game. However, I am giving it a thumbs down because there is far too little explanation for the mechanics in the game. In fact, I first tried playing this game before 7BH, but got stuck after 30 minutes. After revisiting this game after putting 20 hours into 7BH, I realize it wasn't so much that the puzzles were too challenging, but rather they didn't explain the mechanics well enough. This makes the game seem even more like a ripoff of 7BH, as if the developer didn't explain the mechanics properly because they didn't come up with them themselves, but rather copied them from another game. With the knowledge I acquired from 7BH, I was able to solve many more puzzles than I did when I first played the game, though in the end I quit playing as the puzzles in this game just don't seem as elegant or sophisticated as the ones in 7BH. Like I said, it's a poor man's 7BH. There's also the issue of puzzles not fitting onto one screen which others have mentioned, which is a huge no-no for this type of game, but I've only encountered one such puzzle so far, and I've beaten two out of six chapters, so my guess is there are only a few such puzzles in the game, so as frustrating as it is, it's not a frequent enough issue to be a deal-breaker on its own for me, though it has definitely marred my enjoyment of the game.

Extremely weak "language" does not allow simple programming strategies and or functionality (counters, addition, subtraction, etc.) resulting in an overall frustrating experience. You often know a strategy that would work well and elegantly, but are forced to use a ugly hacked together strategy to solve the problem. Not all functions are available in all problems further frustrating things. Might be fun if you have never coded before. If you have any programming experience at all, it is likely to be a frustrating experience rather than a fun one. Great idea, but the execution is severely lacking.
If you like this genre of visual programming puzzles, then this is a no brainer. The game play loop is nearly identical to Tomorow Corp.'s "7 Billion Humans", however I got bored with 7 Billion Humans very quickly. For whatever reason "Selfless Heroes" is much more engaging. It does lack some features that are traditionally included in games of this genre, such as global leaderboards/comparisons, and the ability to step backwards when executing your code. The options (and presentation style) are also very minimal, but I didn't have any issue with that. The game is also roughly 3 times cheaper than its peers. However the gameplay (i.e. puzzles) are quite fun and satisfying to solve. The singular dev is friendly and available on the Discord, which is intentionally used as the primary out-of-game community, and is a place where you can get help or hints if desired (though Steam forums exist as well). There's also a community-run leaderboard featuring the best solutions if you really want to compare your solutions, or just want to learn the answers or the best tricks for optimization. Simple, well-executed, and a great value.
I didn't play this very long before asking for a refund. I was immediately turned off by the music and the "programming" UI is pretty horrible also. I found myself going into "code view" within the first couple of levels. I can imagine that someone who doesn't write code will get extremely frustrated with the "drag and drop" interface.
Great game to learn programming and logic thinking. Also has good music which doesn't distract you and old school pixel graphics. Getting all the stars for every level is challenging (which is good), but if you think long enough about it, the solution will come to mind.
I love this game so much, I'm a mechanical engineer and this game has me writing algorithms that impress my computer science friends! The music and vibe are so cute and welcoming. This game is in my opinion perfectly entertaining and perfectly educational.
Fun, innovative, gets you thinking in ways that normal games don't
While some QoL and extra features are still being added or improved around the edges, I'll say that in terms of the mechanics-feel and the puzzles, that this is hands-down the best zach-like game not produced by Zachtronics I've played so far. Other zachlikes might boast cool graphics, interesting themes, or novel storylines. But this has paired down the essence of a zachlike to its core. Slick puzzle designs and organic puzzle progression. About the only thing missing seems to be the kind of global leaderboard that has graced the zachtronic games, which so organically sets additional organic goalposts for the competitive. If you're a fan of Zachtronic games, you won't be disappointed.
This is coding puzzle game, that leans more into to the gamey side. The genius thing about Selfless Heroes is that it's beginner friendly, real coding game. Real coding because you can choose to type or use icons and you solve open ended problems rather than trying to guess what the dev is thinking. However on the coding side, the learning plateaus and the challenge comes more from the gamey puzzles. If you like coding problems (open ended puzzles) but find zacklikes impossible, you will love this game. However if you want to learn to code, there are better games.
