I have somewhat mixed feelings regarding this visual novel. It is excellent as a novel... but it falls a bit short on the visual half of the genre. And it's essentially kinetic. There are 3 choices, but they do not appear to change the story much. The worldbuilding is also great? The setting reminded me a lot of The Last Remnant, a game I loved. Another game it reminds me of a bit is An Octave Higher. There are some similar themes, but I liked this much better overall. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2014583838 I think I saw maybe one? typo in the whole thing which is impressive really. Characters are complex. The story is complex, without being difficult to understand or follow. It isn't happy, but I often like the sad stories, and it ended fittingly. Loose ends are generally well tied up, and the mystery is explained as well as the character behind it can tell you. On the visual side... it has no CGs. The character sprites are nice, and I like most of the outfit variants. However, there are not many poses for the characters, (examples of variation include hoods when they're mentioned, a violin for Vale, a rifle for Mero, and fighting poses for everyone) and when they're performing actions, things tend to look a little odd. Moving around, and using abilities looks fine. Fighting is really well written! But it doesn't look like fighting when no one has fight poses and there's often no enemy sprites. There are also some unique creatures mentioned like sephies that I would have loved to see illustrated. It could also have used a bit more background variety. What exists is well done. But there isn't a whole lot of variation. The start menu is also a little basic, though the UI is serviceable, and the text box is nice. The music also fits the scenes well. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2015751880 Overall, I liked it despite the gripes I have regarding the appearance of it. If this were a book, I wouldn't really have any complaints? It's a neat story. But I hope the team can do just a bit better on the visual side in their next release. Cause the writing is excellent. Would recommend this to people who like western VNs with more serious/sad plots.

Full disclosure, I did the background art for this, and seeing everything put together for the first time has been pretty amazing. If you'd like to support a small, passionate, game dev team, you should absolutely buy this visual novel! This is first and foremost a compelling story, and the writers have done a fantastic job of pulling together a world of action, romance, and conflict. The beautiful work by our character artist brings these personalities to life, and the twists and social/moral commentary highlighted by the story really stands out to me. Grab some popcorn, get cozy, and check out Seed of Amaranth!
Was asked to give this game a quick look over for any major bugs before it was released, but then I wound up getting drawn in to the story in the process. I found the storytelling and setting to be very enjoyable, it builds an interesting and meaningful universe without relying too much on spoon-feeding background information to the player. Many of the most interesting elements of the world are subconsciously learned over time, smoothly woven in to casual dialog between characters. Enjoyable and unique characters with interesting consequences to their actions that occasionally took me by surprise. Very enjoyable character and background art, I only wish there were additional backgrounds to enjoy :) I haven't finished playing through this game yet, but by the end of Act I was invested enough that I bought copies for friends who I know enjoy Visual Novels so I could talk about it with them.
Everything good about this "visual" novel is art, and it isn't really intresting, the plot is pathetic and overly complicated. Heroes are stereotypic and cliche. While they have interesting backgrounds, development of characters is still painfully predictable. Interesting world that was left absolutely undisclosed. But the most disappointing part is female characters, that even when they have power are still mostly foolish, useless and have this aura of background cast. And most interesting characters are just washed down through the pipe at the end. There is a lot of bad VN, like this, for example Heires of Sorcery or Don't Give up, or an interactive fiction like Soul stone war, and I thought after them, nothing could put me in such a state of tearing up between boredom and disgust. But they have at least an illusion of interactivity in them and this one, I am just glad it is as cheap as it feels.
