I'm on the fence with this one, it wasn't the best escape room game I've ever played and a few of the puzzles were pretty dubious and I kinda had to force myself to finish this completely. But it is a nice looking game and the early game puzzles are pretty fun, however I'm not sure if I would recommend it. On the other hand it's also not the worst game I've played, just very middle of the road. This type of game makes me wish for a neutral option.
This game is missing a certain "human touch" when it comes to the puzzles, plot, and voice acting.... PUZZLES - There are a lot of logical gaps in the puzzles. There is no clear flow when you enter a room, so you may attempt puzzles without having the ability to solve them. This causes undo stress on the player, especially when the in-game hint system does not provide enough information to understand the solution. I consider myself an experienced puzzle game player. There were 3 times where with the in game hints and an external guide, I still could not figure out how on earth I was supposed to get the answer. I ended up just accepting it to move on. PLOT - The plot isnt great and falls victim to many troupes like
"Bury your gays"
and
"Involuntary Charity Donation"
. After an entire gameplay of you being alone, there is a corpse in a room you have work around. VOICE ACTING - Voice actors were not credited. The detective spoke with an unnatural cadence and an uptilt in unnatural parts of their sentences. If a sentence crossed between two separate frames, a few times the main actor for the detective said the lines like they were separate sentences. CONCLUSION - - The phoned in plot in combination with the uncredited voice acting and puzzles with no intuition makes this a game I DO NOT RECCOMEND and will be requesting a refund for.
I bought this game as part of a package deal with Secrets of Velendar Castle. That was an awesome game. This game, frankly sucked. I had to use a hint on almost every puzzle (which was a pain because there's a 5 minute timeout) only to get a hint with information I already knew. The puzzles were so obtuse that even once having solved them (usually by brute force) I still couldn't reverse engineer how I was supposed to get to the solution. After 2 hours I've finally given up and uninstalled the game without finishing it (which for me is quite rare.) I've played a lot of escape room/puzzle games and I would say 90% of them I enjoy and could work through even if they were difficult. This was not one of them.
Sadly i played just over 2 hours and can't get a refund. I did not have much fun with this one. I did not like the solutions. For one puzzle i had a different (and in my opinion more fitting one), but i could see how the other also works. in the next room i used 2 hints to get the solution but even after having the solution and re-reading the letter that was there to help get the solution, i did not think that it was absolutely clear how to get there.
The storyline lacked in the end. It was very depressing and came with virtue signaling. I just wanted to play a fun escape room game for goodness sake. Also, some puzzles were a bit of a stretch.
What started out kind of great, ended in disaster. This game is filled with nonsensical puzzles that defy all logic. I spent 1h+ on several, even though I looked up the solutions, just to understand the logic behind them, and let me tell you, I still don't get them. Some require the player to make huge logical leaps, others' hints were not adequate. Also, the game camera is extremely sensitive, and I couldn't use my controller to play it (on PC). Even changing camera sensitivity in settings didn't make any difference. A little enjoyement - a LOT of frustration.
A fun, pretty short game! Despite some of the puzzles requiring quite a large leap of logic (perhaps this was just me!) I did enjoy learning about the inhabitants of the manor and figuring out what became of them whilst also getting to complete an escape room:]
this game unfortunately showed me the difference between good puzzle design and a bad one. the puzzles are pulled out of thin air with little to no correlation to any clues. the hints when you get sick of a puzzle are timed which makes them tedious and very little informative which leaves you to either guess the solution or watch a guide. this was not a pleasurable experience. lastly some of the puzzles felt that they were building to a certain solution only to find out that the solution for some reason was changed at the last minute leaving some clues to lead to nowhere and makes the puzzles feel detached from the game and clues themselves hence the puzzles being pulled out of thin air. some other people who have no issue with watching hints if they get stuck might find some enjoyment in this game, but people that want to challenge themselves and actually find the solution will find themselves lost and wasting hours. comparing this to a classic puzzle game like myst you will find in that game only very few clues that guide which makes it difficult but this game have false clues that are not intentional but probably left by mistake that leads the players to being confused. i do not advise people to buy this game, i wish i could have refunded it. but unfortunately the issues appear after the 2 hour mark.
