Emily is tasked with dealing with all the issues that come up during the preparation of Jane’s wedding, while also trying to find her place in high society. As Jane’s maid, she is treated by the majority of the guests as an errand girl, but as a close friend of Jane, she expects to be asked to be her bridesmaid, which might not be appropriate due to her commoner status. The obstacles she encounters are made even more difficult due to her not being in a position of power, thus not being taken seriously or in any way as a priority. Compared to other GameHouse games, the inner struggles of the protagonist seem intensified and more clearly fleshed out. You’ll play as different characters, fulfilling customers’ orders and billing them. However, the gameplay seems to be comparatively easier than other similar games, both in regards to how many orders you’ll have to deliver in each level (the “rush” factor), as well as how comfortable your pathing is. More so, only one of the locations (in fact, only some levels from that location) contains a dish that requires timed preparation, while in other games there is usually at least one (often two) of these in each location. The “Normal” mode here plays like the “Easy” mode in similar games, which makes [i]Secret Diaries - Royal Wedding[/i] a very relaxing experience. It is the sequel to the first game, [i]Secret Diaries: Manage a Manor[/i]. However, it is not necessary to have played the first game before delving into this one. The only piece of information that you need to know from the first game is that [spoiler]Jane, the heroine, is engaged to Lord Heathfield[/spoiler]. In [i]Royal Wedding[/i], you take on the role of Emily, Jane's maid and very close friend. Jane wants Emily to be her wedding planner, and Emily immediately agrees although at first, she assumed that Jane was going to ask her to be a bridesmaid. Anyway, now Emily has the daunting task of planning the best wedding ever for her best friend, which includes helping out with the wedding dress, taking on tasks for the bride and groom, etc. On top of that, Emily meets a charming naval captain who's a friend of Heathfield, and the two immediately hit it off. Add in to the mix a possible distant relative of Jane's who has arrived to inherit what would have been Jane's manor, had she not been engaged, and the usual drama and romance, and you've got yourself a beautiful Gamehouse-published game that takes place in fictional 19th century England. As for the gameplay, it has the usual elements. You can choose from among the usual 3 difficulty levels. (For review purposes, I chose to play in normal mode.) There are a total of 60 levels, and in each level, you have to fulfill guests' orders as well as find Jerry, the secret mouse, and complete an additional task. Depending on how quickly you serve all the guests and complete the other tasks, you can earn up to 5 diamonds per level. Diamonds are used to purchase items in the wedding chapel, purely for cosmetic purposes. Of course, the usual Steam achievements/in-game trophies are present, and they count towards a user's global total. Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll get to my thoughts. It's probably no secret that time management games are one of my favorite game genres, and I especially adore the ones published by Gamehouse. I highly enjoyed [i]Secret Diaries: Manage a Manor[/i], so I was very happy when an awesome friend gifted me a copy of this sequel. Without further delay, I'll get to the story. I like how you get to play as Emily this time rather than Jane from the first game. It was wonderful getting to know Emily as the main character. She is kind and wants to help but has a very strong personality. Emily dreams of finding romance, but she understands that she has duties and responsibilities. As for the other characters, I like the return of Jane, who is now more of a supporting character. Jane has her own set of problems, though, with Heathfield's father not approving of the engagement. Also, Adelaide Thomson, Jane's rival and now friend from the first game, returns to help out both Jane and Emily, once the latter agrees to become Jane's wedding planner. Adelaide ends up getting ensnared into a set of problems, but ultimately, the story revolves around Emily. While Emily is doing her duties, she meets handsome bachelors, like Captain William, Heathfield's friend. Although there are a couple of other possible bachelors, the story steers the focus towards Emily and William, which I feel is a positive. If there had been a choice as to whom I would have paired Emily with, William would have been the best choice because of his personality and the similarities the two of them have. Anyway, I don't want to get too wordy with the story, but I will just say that I highly enjoyed it, and I really loved when [spoiler]Emily put her foot down, knowing that she was being used and not being bothered to be thanked. This is something that I can very much relate to, and it's more than ok to stand your ground. Of course, the conflicts get resolved although I wish this would happen more in real life[/spoiler]. Moving onto the gameplay, it has the usual formula that feels very familiar in Gamehouse-published TMs. It's great to choose how easy or challenging you want the game to be, and it's fun to serve customers and make sure that their hearts don't go down to the point that they end up angrily leaving. I like how the additional task provides a bit more challenge, adding to the gameplay variety, and looking for Jerry is always fun. In addition, there are mini-games, such as repotting flowers and decorating cakes. The mini-games are pretty self-explanatory although you can always click on the question mark icon during these games if you need more detailed explanations. As for the wedding chapel, I like that you can use diamonds to decorate it, but I wish that there had been more variety, such as choosing what kinds of seats to use. However, all of the achievements unlocked for me without any problems. I did have to replay one level to get the final "all clean" achievement, though. Regarding the art, it's in the same style that has become a staple in Gamehouse-published games. The sprites are drawn and colored well, having that slightly cartoony style without ever feeling over-the-top. Although they definitely fit the game's setting well, I would have liked for there to have been a couple of new tracks to add a bit of variety and all that. If you're a fan of time management games, especially the ones published by GameHouse, you liked the first game, and you love a strong female character with a romantic, dramatic story, then this is totally worth checking out. At the asking price, it might be considered a bit pricey for the total amount of gameplay time, as it took me around 6.5 hours to complete the game and earn all of the achievements. What a lovely time management game in which you have to complete orders, do side objectives, and find the mouse on every level. I love that it has no grindy achievements! It can be completed in around 7 hours. Completing orders, and cleaning tables after customers left. I can't still really explain why but it is so addictive. Having extra side objectives makes it even more fun. And you'll find all that in Secret Diaries - Royal Weddings. In this entry, you follow Emily, a side character from the first Secret Diaries game. You will also see unfold Jane's life, who was the main character from that game, but through Emily's eyes and actions. I thought this was quite clever and gave it a new perspective. I hope we might see this happen more often. From the Gamehouse games, I like the fantasy-themed games a little better story-wise but that is because I have nothing with societies with upper classes and how they treat less fortunate people. However, I still enjoyed Secret Diaries - Royal Wedding so much. I'm so glad it got to a conclusion instead of a quite open ending/cliffhanger ending. It still leaves room for sequels but it just feels better to have a conclusion for now until the next entry in the series. Another thing that I love about the Secret Diaries series is the achievement list. they aren't grindy and most of it you'll just complete while playing the game. You won't have to replay levels endlessly to complete the mini-games or get the money to buy an upgrade. I had to replay like 3 levels, just to get the last few achievements. As long as you always make sure you have cleaned up everything before you check out the customers, do the bonus objective, and always try to find the mouse you won't have to replay much at all. And if you are missing a mouse, the level select will show you and you can just grab it when it shows up and leave the level. The same with missing a few mini-game entries. Just get them and you can leave the level. The side objectives are different for each level, so for those you might have to replay the level but also on this one, the level select will show you if you missed it on any level. Very convenient! This was a good game over all. I wasn't aware that this was game 2 in the series so I ended up playing them backwards lol. I've always been a big fan of the Delicious-Emily`s series and this is very much the same idea. It took me a little under 11 hours game time to get all the achievements but may take someone who`s not used to these kinds of games a little longer.

i quite like these type of games. and the play was was good as well.
