Second Thoughts is a text based interactive "adventure" game where you are forced to eliminate individuals one at a time after being provided with details about them. It's very text heavy and doesn't feature much in the way of graphics. It plays out thematically similar to Papers, Please! except it's much, much more crap. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro text/ASCII "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics, or any real graphics at all for that matter. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. Problematically, the user interface for this game is just a 2D text heavy panel with a few static images... it might as well be a browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Second Thoughts is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. You can play better games for free in a web browser, so it's preposterous to suggest anyone should pay money for this on Steam.

I think the developer has a really good concept here, despite a few spelling/grammar errors. There was a couple times where I was thinking "yeah okay I get the gimmick" but kept being pulled back in. I became emotionally invested in characters I knew virtually nothing about and I think that investment depends on how much the player wants to be immersed. Technically, you could beat this game in under 10 minutes. But if you play as if you are actually affecting people's lives - or if you're playing with a friend - there's a lot more debating to be had. A lot of the fun and intrigue comes from your own bias and trying to predict what biases the game will think you'll have. A lot of this game is trying to out-think the developer which is exactly what the developer seems to have had in mind. I
This game is fascinating. Not only does it make you think about your morals but your preconceptions. Its kinda dark and yeah I guess "slow" but I love the weird games like this. Slowly being given the info you so desperately need to make the "right" choice is horrifying
Pretty good, got it on sale for $0.59, but it's probably worth $2. It's thought-provoking, and potentially emotion-evoking. As of writing, I'm past the first experiment, and my one complaint is that the result was not properly cataloged; my chosen survivor isn't referred to in the present imperfect tense anymore. That aside, I can see the necessity of the slow paced transitions and whatnot: they establish tone and, well, pacing. Every action is very deliberate. You have plenty of time to think and to reflect, and so cannot use brevity as an excuse for your decisions. I'd say "pretty great for an RPG Maker game" but the engine basically doesn't matter. Regarding such, what pleased me most was the borderless-fullscreen mode! A nice surprise.
By far my favorite of the Gestmorph Games catalog with Trikumax probably coming in close second. A psychological horror that puts you in the test chamber of a demented trans-national shadow government organization; presented with a list of prisoners and forced to make choices daily about who lives and who dies. Some experiments have you free people while others make you choose who to execute. You start off with zero knowledge of the individuals other than base stats and learn more about the other subjects as the week goes on. As you're being forced to kill or free them this can have an effect on the player as you come to regret killing or releasing certain people when more information comes to light. Near the end the choices get harder and harder and it'll be entirely up to one's own logic to decide who's more worthy of living, the game never directly outlines who's a 'good' or 'bad' guy and there's no real punishment for player decisions. A really fun experience that's best done blind and can only be done once. I've seen players, myself included, descend into madness upon making self-realizations about just what thought processes and internal logic are being used to make these choices. Constructive criticism? Personally I'd enjoy visual representations of the characters, or at least a Hair/Eye color stat, that and the feature for future experiments to be able to tell what choices one made on previous weeks. Overall amazing game. 10/10, would release serial murderers again.
What a dark game...I loved it. Really screws with your sense of morality
very good game! I really liked how everything and everyone is interlinked in some way, I think the best way to play this game is by playing it in one sitting especially since it's not very long (around 2/3 hours of gameplay). I can't wait to see what the second one hs to offer!
the choices that you make are completely meaningless, i was expecting a "where are they now" or some sort of ending that would make me genuinely interested and want to try unlock the other endings but it just showed the credits. the menus are clunky and the last page which made you pick between the 2 that you chose was clearly very lazily implemented, instead of just the 2 names on one page it was all of them spread across both pages making it simply annoying to choose, everything about the menus is annoying, everything about this game is forgettable and feels as though it was created by a 15 year old
I wanted to like this, but I cant even finish it, at least not right now, which is a shame. Theres a few things that really get in the way of me wanting to continue playing. 1. The game is frustratingly slow, theres a lot of slow text parts that you cant speed up, you just have to sit there and wait. I'm a fast reader, I dislike this sort of thing generally, but I'd be ok with it as an artistic decision if it actually added atmosphere, I don't think it did. 2. There's no settings apart from volume. I can only play it in full screen, and if its not active, the game pauses. This is super frustrating, because of how long it takes to just display text, and particularly the time when you wait for each execution, that takes way too long for no reason, the fact I cant alt-tab or have another window active to do something interesting, idk, its not great design, not if the game isnt engaging enough to make someone want to sit there and wait for a fake loading screen. 3. The twists of each persons crime and history are very predictable, very quickly. 4. Personally, the idea of wanting to go back and change my decision after having more info, its not relevant. I don't believe in the death penalty, I dont think any of these people deserve execution, the information you get after each day in playing just isn't relevant because ultimately the last one left isn't more deserving than any other. If thats the message the game wants to convey, i hope it reaches others, but it didnt feel worth finishing for me when I'm already there and the game is artificially slow.
