Back in the Days i had a very bad PC without Soundcard. Scrapland worked without it. It was an absolute banger in the past and it is still a perfect game. Check it out
Plays just like the original. Blast from the past. Only issue ive noticed is i seem to walk slower when moving directly forward which is a weird glitch. But not enough to be game breaking.
a game I've come back to a few times for the unique mechanics of transforming, plus i'm always a fan on ship building that said the plot is a bit thin and the mechanics could of used fine tuning, still its a fun playthrough that i recommend
Игра моего детства. Приятная атмосфера, отличный левелдизайн, интересно даже спустя столько лет.
I’ve been looking for this game for a long time... I remembered it from my childhood, but I didn’t know what it was called. Finally, I found it—even in a remastered version and I highly recommend it for a touch of pure nostalgia.
Definitely a solid game and some parts are still as fun as i remember when i was a kid. The ship to ship combat is amazing and i was so glad to see they remastered this. Its worth the price as the pros outweigh the cons but id still give it a 6.2/10. Pros - amazing ship to ship combat, especially despite its age. A lot of variety in customization of ships and weapons, plenty of characters to play as, a decent story, remaster makes this game look pretty decent, still a creepy antagonist, plenty of enviromental diversity, good story length, pretty funny in some places. Cons, repetitive missions/side quests, not great voice acting, the races are annoying to deal with, crazy bets are filler rather than interesting, bad game design with some quests making it hard to do due to time constraints.
Summary
Definitely not ideal, but it's worth playing. Some stuff, like the world design, the robotic setting, the progression, and the gameplay in general are solid. Treat the story as secondary, and you’ll have a great time in Scrapland. I first played this game as a child. Now I’ve revisited it with a different, experienced perspective, trying to evaluate how I feel about its various aspects.
World
I'm actually surprised, but the developers managed to create a futuristic world with diverse locations, both "indoors" and "outdoors". Unfortunately, there's not much to do outside apart from racing and fighting, but I assume they just didn't have enough time or budget. The potential is huge, though. One of the most important aspects is that you don’t feel lonely. Instead, you feel like part of a functioning system. Everywhere you fly, you see someone fighting the police, or destroying cargo ships. If you're inside a building, you can see robots talking to or interacting with each other. The best part is that you can actually see how everyone utilizes their abilities. If a cop asks a functionary for his money, the functionary might slow down time to escape. It’s also worth mentioning that everyone—including you and other NPCs—is treated equally. Whether it’s you or someone else breaking the law, the police react the same way. Indoor locations have their own charm as well, although some points of interest are overused while others feel underutilized. Scrapland could have benefited from at least one DLC, but unfortunately it was discontinued.
Plot
The game is much longer than I remembered, but the story still feels rushed somehow. It feels like the game's target audience is children, however, the game includes satire and overexaggerated stereotypes that only adults would fully understand. This raises a question: who is this game actually for? The voice acting in this game is one of the weakest points in my opinion. It feels like everything was done in a single take. The concept of a detective story in a robotic world is great, but many key moments feel unserious, and the climax lacks impact. That’s not to say there aren’t interesting parts, but much of it feels underwhelming.
Gameplay
The gunships are amazing. I really like that you can pair ANY ship with ANY engine. You can equip or remove any weapon, and adjust how much health your ship has—though it comes at the cost of speed. The ships are also well-designed and I sometimes preferred one over another just for the looks. Most of the fights in this game take place outside and the power progression is surprisingly well done. At the start of the game, no one has particularly strong weapons, but the more progress you make, the stronger they get, even piloting-wise. The missions try to be varied, but most of them boil down to “destroy gunship X and bring me Y.” Indoor tasks are usually more diverse, but they appear less frequently and often involve simple conversations. As you progress, gunship blueprints appear in various locations, encouraging exploration and allowing you to expand your collection. These collectibles are usually well hidden. The Crazy Gambler offers tasks that must be completed to unlock a Super Crazy Bet. It’s a fun concept, but in practice it usually comes down to either a race or a free-for-all fight. It’s exciting at first, but it becomes repetitive, especially since similar activities appear in story missions as well.
