The first game from Catalope Games is just as great as it looks. For starters, it's absolutely gorgeous. Fast paced action for 1-4 players as well as lots and lots of fun. Recommended for anyone who likes party games, geometry wars or just indie games in general.
Love it, great local coop game! I hope the devs continue to add parts to build with. Perfect party game!
This is an excellent game for some friends to gather around and play together. My only complaint was that the screen shook wildly whenever a ship exploded, however, the developer actually took the time to answer my comment on the game's discussion board: within a very short amount of time a slider bar for explosion shake was added! In this game you (and either AI or friends) build a modular ship and then engage in battle. Unless you're playing sandbox mode (which is crazy) you will have a limited amount of "component cards" to choose from after each round. For instance, in the start you can build, say, 4 parts onto your ship. The current "cards" may be (2) thrusters, (1) minigun and (1) armor. When you use one to add to your ship, the "card" slot is filled with another random card. You do this until you use up the allowed 4 or until you're finished. This is repeated after each round. If you lose your ship, you have to restart from the base of your ship. If you survive then you get to continue building on your ship or start a new one. It might sound brutal but the rounds are very quick so it's not like you lose a lot of hard work. Try it out for yourself, especially if it is on sale!
Great game to pass the time, bug free with fluent gameplay. Fun with friends and exactly what it is advertised as.
I received this game for free to review on my Curator page "Co-Op Cookbook." This is the full review. A TL;DR is included at the bottom for those who don't want to read all of this. Scrap Galaxy is an arcade-like, local co-op game. You can play as one of four characters (selected in the player menu) and each character has a few lines they say at the beginning and end of each round. You build your ship based upon given item cards (there's weapons, defenses, and speed boosters) and fight the other players. You can play it alone or with friends- Scrap Galaxy offers AIs to play against/with. There are three modes: Scrap King, Death Match, and Co-op mode. Overall, this game has a lot of promise and potential. It allows up to four players and is a fresh idea for a multiplayer game that I have not seen in awhile. (Although, this game reminds me a little of the web browser "spaceone.io" game.) It's pretty fun if you set it on unlimited parts/time to build, so all of your friends can create a scary monster to fight each other with. The artwork is clean, the game itself is not graphics-demanding, and it has at least half an hour or so of playtime for each session you play it (with a friend). However, there still is a lot of work to be done with this game I think. While Scrap Galaxy is very fun and offers a fresh idea, it still looks like it's in a rudimentary phase. There is a "how to play" manual, but there is no tutorial. Often, most people rely on visuals nowadays- not written instructions. Some people do not even have the attention span to read that little text anymore! (Although, I do have to give props on how detailed yet short the instructions were.) Also, there's the co-op mode. Upon selection of this mode, you are prompted with a level select...except, all of the levels are avaliable to you. While that is strange (I'm a believer in "complete each level to unlock the next"), you actually have to manually pick each level yourself after you complete one. I played for three or four rounds on the same level and it still had not taken me to the next level- so I had to manually leave and select the next level. Besides that, the game practically demands a controller. It's 10x harder to control the ships without one. While I was fortunate enough to have four controllers, not everyone has a controller to use. Even so, the sensitivity seemed very, very low with the controllers. It took quite a few seconds to veer left and right with just the small, one unit. Due to all of these things that could be improved, I also believe that this game is a bit overpriced...it's best to purchase on sale for 25%-50% off. At the end of the day, this game was fun to play. It has fun game modes and cute artwork. While it isn't at it's best right now-it could use a lot of improvements- I still think it'd be worth the purchase if it was on sale and you own at least two controllers. A solid 6/10 as it is right now, but could definitely be bumped up to a 7-8/10 if there were improvements made. TL;DR: This game is worth it if it's on sale. Make sure you own controllers though.
Great game to play with some friends. The customizability of building your own ship is great, although I think a winning ship in "Scrap King" mode should get maybe 6 builds instead of 4 as often the ship is close to destruction. Also, if you pick to keep your ship after winning, you cant go back and chane your mind Some components needed some getting used to (Particularly the dash drive) but we picked up how everything worked quite quickly. One thing we were unsure of though was if the generator affected mines and the galaxy gun
You first have to decided how much or little you put on your ship, both have benefits and draw backs depending on the match setting. Once that is done you then compete to see who uses their ship design best. One of the best matches I have had so far has been when I made a not so great design that started to get wrecked quickly, after getting most of my weapons destroyed I decided to take the do as much damage before dying tacit and went in for a ram but somehow I rammed him so perfectly I got him stuck in a way I could just shoot him until he died. I was happy but my friend was so mad about how I stole the match.
No control, no fun.
The starting idea is good, but controlling the ship is not so much. And the camera doesn't really show/follow me. I guess the AI players are considered normal players and the game try to fit everyone on the screen but not willing to go far enough for it..
