4/10 + music + art - 1 hit death - lack of enough checkpoints - only 15 levels + 5$
A cute and charming precision platformer, Astra and the New Constellation is relatively short (you can beat the game including all collectibles in less than an hour) but a fun diversion. The controls are simple but solid, and despite the game's adorable visuals it offers some challenging platforming (although there are accessibility features to make the game easier). Death is not very punishing and there are checkpoints to prevent having to do long stretches over and over again. Some levels have unique mechanics (such as angled springboards or auto-scrolling or switch blocks) that keep everything from feeling too samey. The highlight of AATNC is the pixel art, which is delightful. The graphics are simple but colorful and endearing, with a couple of fun details (like a level where a light source orbiting around a pyramid in the background causes your playfield to alternate between light and dark). I have two main gripes about the game, though. One is the music, which is absolutely terrible. The other is a lack of achievements, or really rewards of any kind. There isn't really even an ending, or a reason to collect all the "dust" in each level. Still, I had fun with AATNC and it was easily worth the pocket change I paid for it (with an 80% discount).
Hated at first, loved in the end. Be warned - on the surface it looks like a cutesy fun little game but it's actually quite hard. You will need some patience to beat it. It has a great speedrunning potential.
Coming from the PICO-8 engine, this little precision platformer has enough love put into its 1MB storage space to question why some other AAA games in their vast demanding space can't do the same. Indeed, Astra features not only a (mostly) solid platforming gameplay through 15 distinct levels but a small story and tracks that even with their limitations ease you into the space atmosphere. By sliding, hovering and timing them correctly, there are many obstacles to overcome which in some instances may become a bit annoying depending on how right the jump really is. However, it doesn't reach an impossible level of challenge at any point and by the end the urge to try and get a better run may come up depending on how much stardust you left behind. This little game at a little price I particularly recommend to fans of the genre, who'll probably beat this in a breeze but come out the other side with satisfaction.
really good platformer. often 2D platformer level design gets taken for granted, but this was really fun with a nice difficulty curve. great job to everyone involved!
Short little platformer. Sometimes the bouncing can be a bit finnicky, but it works most of the time. The game is pretty tough but not impossible with decent amount of checkpoints. There isn't much depth to it and hitboxes can be a bit fussy sometimes but the basics of the game work well enough. Inoffensive. 7.5/10

Charming little Pico-8 game. Lots of polish. Awesome, creative levels.
An odd little precision-platformer. Quirky in all respects, from the difficult ways of managing jump height, to the square aspect ratio that prevents you from reading too far ahead, to the synth music that sounds like it was written by a worm. I mean that last bit positively — the dinky, minimalist music is probably my favorite part of the package. It all feels very off-kilter in a way that will charm some and anger others. I land somewhere in the middle. It's not my favorite kind of precision platformer, but I appreciate what it's doing. This is somebody else's favorite small indie game, probably. Definitely a lot of speedrunning potential, if you're into that sort of thing. And there are a lot of settings to help you make the game more comfortable, such as removing screenshake and showing obstacle trajectories, which is always a plus.
