Overview of the Story and Gameplay
I received this game via Steam Curator Connect. SCi-FL is a RPG-Maker game where you take the role of "You". Trapped in a mysterious tower, it's your job to battle your way to the top of the tower. You are accompanied by another person who comments your journey and heals you when needed. The game is quite light on the story elements in the beginning. You essentially just find yourself inside the Tower and you battle different kind of enemies while leveling up and getting yourself better equipment. The gameplay loop is simple. Grind monsters, talk to the Altar to go Up (and down?) and purchase yourself status boosts, healing items, weapons and armors. If your HP gets too low, talk to your assistant who heals you when necessary. Battling is done in turn-based fashion. Think of older classical JRPG in terms of the battle system, where you don't see your character and instead just see the enemies. Battles are fought in turns and feature all typical mechanics of a turn-based battle such as hits, misses, criticals buffs etc. As you level up, you gather up gold and exp to level up and to better equip yourself to fight against the machines in the tower. The game threw me straight to the battles without tutorials, which I do appreciate. As battles go further, you gather up TP (technical points?) to use stronger special moves.

The Tech
This is a RPG maker game, which means it runs on pretty much anything. Game settings are bare, but for some reason the build I played had all the mobile UI elements enabled. I take that this is probably an unintended effect for now. The game played in 4:3 ratio on my Deck, which was the computer I used to play this. I found no compatibility issues on Steam Deck during my short time of playing.

My opinions
The core idea of the game is solid and with little more development time I'm sure this could become quite fun game to play. As of now, it felt like a turn-based battle grinder where I was relying on auto-attacks and optimizing my farming on the first floor. There is a story for the game, but at the time of writing it's still waiting to be brought up properly. The game description talks about simulator and alien projectors, while the game itself talks about a mysterious Altar and brain computers. The story needs coherence. The Item naming also needs another check. For example, I can buy bronze armors in Sci-Fi -world, which does not really make sense without some background. I can also get a sword made out of a dragon tooth in a futuristic setting. Improvements like making the setting coherent and proofreading the text (there are plenty of typos) would do a lot for the world building and motivate the players more.

As of now my recommendation for this game is not recommended, but has potential. My score for the game is 4/10.

Small game and needs story but I like the combat
