Gameplay
Schrödinger's Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark spielt sich wie eine Art Puzzle-Platformer.
Fazit / TL;DR
Schrödinger's Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark ist ein genretypischer Puzzle-Platformer mit einem originellen Twist.
Short version: this game is a sweet dessert covered in sharp glass shards. After hearing so much "there's always a first time", this is the only game that I didn't like and yet got all the achievements - without even finishing the history. What makes the experience bad (awful for me) are the little things that pile atop each other, that end up resulting in a game that I would never recommend. Starting from the smaller problem, even with solid and fluid gameplay, there's no way to change keybinds, a problem given that the controls for gamepads are honestly bad. Things get quickly annoying when you start over from the beginning and notice that most dialogues cannot be skipped - and there's a ton of them. Personally, the pesky protagonist that never shuts up and the items (quarks) that make high pitched noises when collected and used are very irritating, to the point that made me play most of the game without sound - because hearing that was just unbearable, and the configuration to remove voices doesn't remove the high pitched quark sound, because it's treated as sound effect. To make this even worse, you cannot access the configurations (sound, graphics, etc) at any time. For some imbecile reason, the developers make you get back to the main menu (losing progress on the current area), seeing the developers logo again for 1-4 seconds (depending on whether you skip it) to there go for the options. Such a hateful design can only be intentional. To top all those flaws the game is very unpolished, full of bugs and glitches that will create problems to the player. Most were smaller nuisances, bug the biggest (and honestly unforgivable) was the game crashing on the final area, stopping me from finishing the campaign - half an hour after when I already got every single achievement! It's like getting a beautiful sweet desert you wanted for months, only to noticed the "sugar" that cover it was glass dust and micro-shards when you finally bite it. Most of those flaws wouldn't be that hard to solve, given that the core gameplay and graphics are done surprisingly well. At this crappy current state, giving this game to someone would be almost an insult to the person.

Be prepared for a lot of particle physics-based jabs and quirks. Yes, there are quarks called strange and charm and there are even jabs at the god particle. The game isn't that long and many of the sections focus on resource management. The combinations for your various abilities can take some getting used to, but they're listed on the pause menu and save for some exceptions, you can take your time. However, there are some issues with this game. First, the collision detection can get a little wonky; I've actually clipped out of bounds at the beginning on accident. Second, the chase/autoscroll sections were poorly planned out. The game's control scheme isn't meant for that fast of a pace and the second and third instances are very unforgiving. It's doable, but you'll die a lot from either flubbing the sequences or tripping.
This game is so dumb. It is absolute nonsense. You should play it.
The game is not correctly compatible with Windows 10. I got it working by rolling back to 2022 version of the game, but there is no telling if some unfixed bugs can block my game. So be careful if you are thinking about buying this game. I would probably not recommend it for modern machines, especially Windows 11.
I'm writing this review because I just saw this forgotten gem somehow only has a mixed rating. Platforming is alright. The combo mechanic is interesting enough to make a playthrough worthwhile alone, but the where this game really shines is the humour. There are many games out there which try to be humourous, but I'd be hard pressed to name more than perhaps two other games that had me laughing as hard as this one. My stoic german facade hardly ever drops, but this game required me to pause for a minute or two until i could stop the guffaw. Whether that means the game has insanely good writing or I'm just a weirdo is up to you. My work to the algorithm here is done.
A great game full of excite!

I'm not a HUGE fan of puzzle platformers, but this one did some interesting things that I hadn't seen before. Generally polished, but there are a small handful of bugs—typically restarting an area will fix them, though. I'm not a big fan of the "running" stages—you have to put everything you've learned into practice without failure, in a sequence, with little or no checkpointing, and the "death from behind" is just a bit too close, leading to high stress and rushing, and thus a lot of errors. Other than that, you can typically take your time solve puzzles without too much pressure. It's not usual for me to finish puzzle platformers these days, but this game was compelling enough for me to finish.
