前言
入手《scavenger of dunomini》的契机在于开发商的前作《shotgun king: the final checkmate》,以及偶然看到的安利。

Great fusion of two things that I sort of enjoy making something I can't seem to stop playing Very VERY chaotic. The controls are straight forward, you really only have 3 actions: pickup/place and kick blocks to make patterns that vanish and give you resources and building structures. and you can move that's it! simultaneously enemies are coming from the left and are trying to steal your glorious trash! Finding out the little tricks you've got to exploit to get a couple hundred more points is really satisfying. Seems like with 2 competent players (and possibly alone) you could play forever... but it would be pretty hectic. Huge just one more factor since you might have gotten distracted because you found another potential strategy and forgot to reload a turret
At first, the game didn't click for me. But after insisting a bit, I discovered a well-paced, complex, and very addictive game. There is a subtle balance between defending and puzzling, and the puzzle part has many great ideas, starting from "align 4" to "regroup 5 near a power source", etc. It became one of my favorite punkcake games!
Excellent mix of Tetris Attack matching with a tower defense game. Steep learning curve but very rewarding to dive into.
You like the feeling of frenzy on games like tetris or donkey kong ? This game will provide that and more. You will love it !
I should have slept instead of playing this game thru the night. I look forward to play 2Players in couch coop.
I actually bought this before it got a steam release, through itch. It's hard to really mesh different genres and still maintain the original gameplay pattern, but honestly this does it so well. It has a pretty high learning curve, but to me that's a part of the fun of the game. I strongly recommend it for anybody who likes falling block puzzle games.
Scavenger of Dunomini, developed and published by PUNKCAKE Delicieux, is a dense and high-pressure arcade hybrid that blends puzzle-solving with base defense in a way that feels both inventive and deliberately overwhelming. It takes familiar mechanics—matching tiles and defending territory—and merges them into a single, constantly escalating system where every second demands attention. Like many of the developer’s projects, it embraces a small scope but fills it with layered interactions, creating an experience that is easy to grasp in concept yet surprisingly demanding in execution. The game places you in control of a small scavenger unit stationed in a junk-filled pit, tasked with processing incoming debris while fending off hostile machines trying to steal your resources. The core loop revolves around manipulating tiles within a confined grid, arranging them according to specific rules to generate materials. However, this is not a traditional match-3 system. Each type of tile follows its own logic—some require longer chains, others depend on particular shapes or configurations—which forces players to think beyond simple pattern recognition. Instead of relying on instinct alone, you’re constantly analyzing the board, adapting to new combinations, and prioritizing which matches to pursue under pressure. What elevates the experience is how tightly this puzzle system is integrated with the defensive layer. The materials you produce are immediately converted into tools for survival, such as turrets, barriers, and upgrades that help repel incoming waves of enemies. This creates a constant tension between preparation and reaction. Spending too much time optimizing your matches can leave your defenses vulnerable, while focusing solely on survival can limit your ability to scale up for later threats. The game thrives on this balancing act, pushing players to multitask and make rapid decisions that affect both the immediate situation and the long-term outcome of a run. As each session progresses, the pace intensifies. Enemy units become more aggressive, the grid fills more quickly, and the margin for error shrinks. The screen often becomes crowded with both puzzle elements and hostile forces, creating a controlled chaos that defines the game’s identity. Success depends on maintaining composure amid this escalation, finding efficient ways to manage the board while responding to external threats. It’s a demanding rhythm that can feel stressful, but also deeply satisfying when everything aligns and your systems hold together under pressure. Despite the intensity, the game is structured around relatively short runs, making it suitable for quick sessions. Each attempt feels self-contained, with clear beginnings and ends, which encourages repeated play. There is also added variety through cooperative and competitive modes, allowing players to either share responsibilities or challenge each other directly. In cooperative play, the division of tasks can lead to interesting dynamics, as one player focuses on managing the puzzle while the other handles defense, creating a sense of coordination that enhances the experience. Visually, Scavenger of Dunomini follows a bright, pixel-art style that emphasizes clarity over complexity. The colorful design helps distinguish between different tile types and enemy units, which is essential given how busy the screen can become. While the visuals are not particularly detailed, they serve the gameplay effectively by keeping information readable even during the most chaotic moments. The accompanying audio, driven by energetic chiptune tracks, reinforces the fast-paced nature of the game without becoming overwhelming. However, the same elements that make the game engaging can also make it difficult to approach. The combination of multiple systems, each with its own rules, results in a steep learning curve. New players may find themselves quickly overwhelmed, especially since the game offers limited guidance in explaining its mechanics. Additionally, the constant pressure and rapid pacing leave little room for experimentation, which can make early failures feel abrupt. Over time, as players become more familiar with the systems, this initial difficulty gives way to a more controlled and rewarding experience. In terms of longevity, the game relies heavily on its core loop. While the mechanics are clever and well-integrated, they do not expand significantly beyond their initial framework. This means that long-term engagement is driven primarily by improving performance and mastering the existing systems rather than discovering new content. For players who enjoy refining their skills and pushing for better results, this can be highly compelling. For others, the repetition may become noticeable after extended play. Ultimately, Scavenger of Dunomini stands out as a bold and creative experiment that successfully merges two distinct genres into a cohesive and challenging experience. It delivers fast-paced, mentally demanding gameplay that rewards adaptability, quick thinking, and strategic multitasking. While its intensity and complexity may not appeal to everyone, it offers a unique and memorable experience for those willing to engage with its systems. Rating: 8/10
