I do like the game. I like the art style, I like the little video cutscenes and I especially like the voice actors, BUT I can't recommend it for $15 for about 2 shours of playtime. Without spoilering anything, just like the description says: This game is just a prequel and not a lot actually happens. Either add more content, or release a sequel and reduce the price of this prequel IMHO.
[Kawaii/VN] A yuri short deep story between humans and vampires, an antagonistic force. Stunning opening animations, cute anime artwork w/some animations, protagonists full-voiced. For more discernment on the anime games we curated, feel free to check out and follow our Steam Curator.
Can humans and vampires co-exist in peace?

Introduction
Scarlet Defiance: The Wall Between Us is a yuri, dark fantasy, kinetic visual novel developed and published by Vmmersion Studios. You take on the roles of Sofia, the leader of the Human Resistance, and Vlatka, the vampire princess who is believed to be the prophecized one. As Sofia fights to protect humans from vampires (while secretly looking for Vlatka), Vlatka discovers that she has uncontrollable powers and that she may be the princess from the prophecy who will either bring peace between humans and vampires or be the cause of their downfall. With the gameplay, the story is linear, so no choices are presented. There are a total of 8 chapters along with mini-chapters in-between that serve as flashbacks for Sophia (for the most part). Plenty of CGs are present along with a full-on soundtrack and English voice acting. (Even Sophia and Vlatka are voiced.) Several Steam achievements are present, too, but they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "Steam is learning about this game".
Review
It has been quite a while since I last played a yuri visual novel, so it feels great to get back into them. First, I like how the story starts off. Sophia and Karine, her best friend and second-in-command, are at an enemy vampire base, searching for information. Besides Sophia, Karine is the only one who knows about the resistance's secret purpose, which is to find the vampire princess talked about in the prophecy. I enjoyed witnessing the camaderie these two have, and it really caught me off guard when it doesn't end up lasting due to tragedy. As for Vlatka, I liked seeing her life as a princess and finding out that despite her royal heritage, it's the Elder Council who actually holds power. Vltaka is like a puppet, and it's obvious that other vampires, especially Stanislav, the leader of the Elder Council (man, I can't stand him or his son :/), are using her. Sofia and Vlatka are in two different worlds, but due to certain events that occur, they end up finally meeting towards the end although it's "to be continued". Talk about leaving someone in suspense. :o Anyway, I enjoyed the story a lot, but I wish that there had been more interactions between Sophia and Vlatka. Also, there are some bittersweet yuri romance moments, such as
between Sophia and Karine, and Vlatka, and Nadya, her blood maid
. The writing is paced well, and I liked the back-and-forth perspectives between Sophia and Vlatka. It helped to visualize both human and vampire sides as all of them try to live together since there was the war between them that ended in a truce. As far as I could tell, I didn't notice any typos or grammatical errors, so the writing was very smooth. Also, I really enjoyed Sophia's flashback mini-chapters, as I got glimpses into her past as a teen and how she lived with her mom since her dad passed away many years ago. With the art, it's absolutely gorgeous. It truly depicts that dark fantasy vibe that is currently popular in media. I'd say that the sprites are slightly in an anime style although the backgrounds feel more realistic. Of course, the CGs are especially done well. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3399308471 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3399308610 In addition, there are a few animations, and I enjoyed watching them. Slight body movements bring the characters to life, and gosh, that opening animation is wonderful to watch. ^^ (I should note, though, that there are images of blood, death, etc., but no sexual content.) As for the music, the tracks are lovely to listen to. There's a good variety, and the instrumentals are especially beautiful. They give off that dark fantasy vibe, immersing you in the story. Finally, there's full-on English voice acting. It's quite a treat to listen to voices for all the characters. Even though I'm more than ok with having no voice acting, the voices used here are perfect for their respective characters, giving off their personalities. Especially, Sophia's, Vlatka's, and Stanislav's (still can't stand him lol) voices are spot on.
Conclusion
Overall, would I recommend Scarlet Defiance: The Wall Between Us? If you enjoy visual novels and want to experience one in a dark fantasy setting with some bittersweet yuri romance and/or want to get those Steam achievements, it's worth checking out. Granted, the main criticism is that the story is short for the asking price, leaving off on a cliffhanger. However, there is full-on voice acting, which I know can be quite pricey in VNs, and the art quality is excellent. Still, you can wait for a sale. Finally, I want to thank Vmmersion Studios for the review copy. It was such an enjoyable journey to read the story between Sophia and Vlatka, and I'm hoping for a continuation. ^^
For more detailed, fully complete, high quality reviews like this, please follow The Introverted Gamer, prioritizing heart and soul always. ^^
I don't understand how they list this as a complete game. About 3 hours in you're hit with a cliff hanger and "To Be Continued" before anything interesting starts. Do you expect me to pay another $15 USD for the next chapter? Am I going to have to spend for every chapter? Sorry, but NO. Avoid this greedy money pit.
This is a $14.99 prologue, there isn't much meat here and it ends just as things get interesting. Aside from that though, its great. The production value is excellent, the art is beautiful and the Voice acting is great. Just wait for a sale, if you're a fast reader this will only take you a few hours at most
While visually gorgeous and reasonably engaging due to its world building and character development, the fact that this is just a very short prequel means I simply cannot recommend it. Quite a few people - including myself - bought this actually thinking they'd receive a full game. Naturally that is our very own fault for not reading carefully enough, but I also consider it being a bit misleading. You should call this version a demo or something, and put the corresponding info on the game's ads so that this not being a full game can be noticed immediately. And: What's clearly missing here on top of that is a release date announcement for the full version of the novel. Once that comes out, I am quite likely to change my opinion, but not for now.
Unfinish product that just stop abruptly with a "To be contiuned". It looked good but i can't in any way defend this while being at a price point of a couple other novels, that are way longer and complete game. It is baffling and jokes on me for not looking at the other reviews. So you've been warned.
The quality of the game is really amazing. The characters, the art, the backgrounds, the voice artists and the music are top quality. Yes, it´s just the prologue (it´s in the description on the steam page above, duh. Whoever can read has a clear advantage and giving a negative review becaus of that is dumb, but back to the review) but you can see the love that went into this kinetic novel (no choices). The writing/story is captivating and I can´t wait to read the rest of the story to see where it all ends. Thanks to the devs. Continue you great work!
