About
Saratoga is a solo or two-person turn-based strategy wargame that is Volume I in the Great Battles of the American Revolution wargame series created by designer Mark Miklos and published by GMT Games. The game focuses on the Battle of Saratoga on September 19, 1777 which proved to be the turning point of the American Revolution.
Players can battle human opponents online or play against the game's AI. There are three scenarios that offer opportunities to explore alternate histories, including a British counterattack on the next day.
Saratoga features gameplay based on the historical wargaming boardgames of the 70's and 80's. Players maneuver markers that represent their units on a hexagonal map that mimics the gameboard and cardboard counters of traditional boardgames. Players alternate their turns with the first player being determined either by the scenario or randomly. During their turn a player will conduct maneuver for their units and then engage in combat using units with capabilities based on the historical record. Combat is resolved through die rolls modified by terrain, the ability of nearby leaders and the characteristics of the units in the combat.

Saratoga is Volume I of the enormously popular Great Battles of the American Revolution series designed by Mark Miklos and published by GMT Games.
Each side has an historically accurate order of battle that encourages the player to attempt to outdo the generals of history. Saratoga has scenarios that simulate "what-if" situations as well. What if the British had counter-attacked the next day? What if Benedict Arnold had gotten his way and been free to attack?
Combat includes modifiers for leadership, each unit's abilities and terrain to provide a realistic simulation. There is also a "press your luck" component that allows players to spend momentum to modify die rolls or in some cases to re-roll dice.

Excellent adaptation of the physical game. The more I play, the more I hope they release the entire BOAR series in this format. Great job by the developers!

I like this game. The theme is great. The interface is pretty good.
Bon wargame ; scénario pas très long mais bien conçu
I bought this game so that I could play an AI opponent { I own the original board game} but have found the interface so slow and clunky that it would take less time to set up the physical board game and play both sides. The response time when you click on anything in the game is very slow and it seems to get worse the longer you play it! More worrying is the fact that once you close down the game the poor performance continues and I have to restart the computer to get rid of the problem! I requested a refund from Steam but unfortunately I had played over the 2 hour limit because of slogging through the tutorials and was refused. I have bought dozens of GMT games and have always regarded them as a byword for quality and so I found it difficult to accept that the online game was so bad! I have had no problems running any other games in my steam library including recent purchases such as Civilisation 7 and Solasta 2 so I am at a loss to understand why this game runs so poorly.
igual que los juegos de Tablero...una gran implementación! Deseando que publiquen el resto de módulos!!
Interesting implementation of this GMT classic. Unfortunately, the AI is weak, allowing to easily win all scenarios. The advantage of this mode should be playing solitaire, which would warrant greater investment in the AI by the developers. Hope to see improvements and other titles in future.
A brilliant wargame series getting an electronic treatment that gives it more versatility.
This game is great! It is easy to play, intuitive, it walks you through the turn phase and it is a great adaptation of the original boardgame. I have the Saratoga boardgame but I have never had the time and space to play it. But now I can play it with this digital version! GMT needs to start converting their game catalog to digital and they need to use this game as a model! Great job! Plus, the programmers are actively continuing to improve the game!
It works. I own this boardgame and this lets you play it out on steam, very nice.
