Almost impossible to play right now. I waited until close to the refund window end and I couldnt justify keeping it. It definitely has an appeal to it. Its slower paced than games such as POE which is both a good thing and a bad depending on your play style. I was disappointed to see only 3 classes to choose from. (and they are super similar, you can almost choose any of them and build the same thing) Although it says you can combine skilltrees like in Grim Dawn, they are already pre chosen and splitting your few skill points up between them hamstrings your character HARD. Damage is super weak to begin with and if you are playing melee have fun trying to kill the mobs with auras before they kill you. I played into the second act and I had to stop. Severe judder and framerate drops to 1/2 fps. It was using 98% of my i9-9900k and I could not even play it when in outpost. Not to mention the constant visual glitches and hitbox messes. Apparently this is made by one guy who is staying on top of it so I would love to revisit when its playable but its not worth keeping even on sale at the moment. Its almost unplayable.
I have been a long term player of ARPG's, seen the lot. Titan quest, grim dawn, victor vran, last epoch, POE. this is an early access game currently, out of what is currently on the market i will say you wont beat the update frequency and player response of sam. there is a passion and need for developers true to their core values more and more often within the indie development scene, he has a vision and it's not hard to see the passion for the genre is there too i wont lie and say it's a magnum opus with no flaws right out of the gate Gameplay: the game primarily focuses around endgame content but currently supports 3 primary difficulties in oldschool diable II style being normal, brutal and inferno. the enemy variety is lackluster but keep in mind this is early access and on a solo developers time schedule, i imagine once things get rolling assets can be purchased or commissioned from talented folk. skills are the current focus and the enjoyment they bring, and this shows. with many skills having punchy effects and room for gimping to endgame levels as a focus, the game currently hosts a slew of item rolls, item tiers, rarities and has room for a lot more down the track and the ease of repeatability. price point: there is a lot of complaints so far about the price point, and in all honesty yeah sure $30 is quite a bit for some (i know it is for me) and so the decision to purchase the current access version should come from purely the wish to support the developer on their endeavour, having a passion for helping a game become its best self or helping provide valuable feedback for the games future. the is a true EARLY ACCESS game and the steam disclaimer refers to it a bit poignantly. all in all i see the game as a stepping stone towards a valuable product amongst the ARPG community
If you're a fan of APRGS and Loot everywhere this is the game for you!!! the Dev is amazing and absolutely busting their ass on making it a solid game!! I would recommend this to anyone!! A++
The developer of this game - Sam Keats - is very hard working, passionate & talented. He has been working on this game for years and has made a lot of progress. Thanks to him, Sanctum Breach is a fun ARPG for many and is improving as time passes due to regular updates. If you are unsure whether to buy this game or not then I recommend you to buy this game 5 times, not 1. This game deserves a lot of coverage but unfortunately due to being indie, its a hidden gem. Please BUY this game to support the developer & indie gaming!
This game is a blast. If you enjoy Grim Dawn, and other games like that you're going to get a real kick out of this. It feels like a real honest to god Early Access as well. It's buggy as hell, some game breaking. There's tons of changes randomly, and the game itself feels unfinished. Why Early Access though? Because the )(*@#$_)(*@#$)($ DEVELOPER ACTUALLY RESPONDS AND LISTENS TO YOU AND TREATS YOU LIKE SOMEONE WHO'S TESTING THEIR GAME FOR THEM. You do have to pay some cash, but Sam Keats genuinely appreciates your effort and time. You can drop him a message on discord, or the forums, and he responds quickly. He puts a lot of effort into this, and it shows. Fanboy words aside, this game is a real blast. The abilities feel unique and have impact, balance is still an issue so some are OP and some are lackluster, but in general all are a blast. Pet's are fun, a bit broken and op but fun. I also really like some of the slam abilities. The plot is hot garbage, but does anyone play these games for plot? If you do check out Grim Dawn lol. I can't wait to see how the builds grow more diverse. I don't necessarily agree with all the decisions, but he had a good interview with Tarke Cat (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1q03YP9DkE) that really deep dives into why. Still disagree with it, but it's not my game. I'll still play it though. I'm excited to see endgame press further, I think that's going to be where this shines. It's worth the change if you got it, I've only played 7 hours or so on this version, but I had a lot more on the older one (2 years ago) and think the changes are epic. Visually it's pretty basic, lots of market skins, but works out fine and is well executed. I think it's the unreal engine so it will have some nice lasting power.
Pretty fun so far :D
I received this product for free as I had previously purchased the original Sanctum Breach, and the developer, in an act of good will, wanted to make sure those who backed his previous project did not have to double pay. I want to say that I have enjoyed both the previous project and this one. They are both completely different games with different classes and skill systems, and he is clearly working very hard on this, as he had on the previous one before the publisher he linked up with derailed the last effort. He also worked on another project in between these two, and was just as responsive to bug fixes and help requests in that games free DEMO, as he has been on these projects as well. That is the praise I would like to place upon the developer himself, and he has my confidence to bring us an amazing project. As for the game itself, it is a TON of fun. I love the combo class systems with dual skill trees inspired by Titan Quest and Grim Dawn. The end game system promises to have another level of customization that I can't wait to try out. Combat and skills are fun. There is a lot of gear drops as others have said, but I don't mind this too terribly much. Kind of fun to look through all the gear for min/max purposes. On the first difficulty as a melee, once you get your build right you get very sturdy, but that's not something new to me in other games if you build right. The penalty on death is nice and harsh though, which I like. That adds to difficulty and requires you to at least be awake and not one click your way through everything, at least not right away. Overall, totally worth the time and the money and I cannot wait to see more!
