Tags: 3PS - Third Person Shooter Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Got pewpews and aliens. Repetitive. Instance based. Mop up. Progress campaign. Rince and repeat. Shallow mechanics. Simple A.I. Unrewarding grind. Xbox360pad not working out of box. Debatable immersion factor. In the end this almost feels like some strange single player version of some faction based MMO This is an instance based game in which you use a limited amount of racial cooldown powers to repetitively take over planets as part of a pre-established galactic domination timeline. The instances did not really feel handmade either, just creatures of each race dumped on each ends of a map and some buildings randomly generated here and there for you to destroy. Your choices boil down to picking your race at the beginning and the goal is to roll over the other three factions until you occupy the spacemap. Only thing to do is buy upgrades and consumables between missions or go for the odd bounty sidemission for extra cash. The engine had resolution options and even dated looked alright. The narrative sort of goes nowhere and it just seems like a lame excuse to have little mini wars with lasers and robots. Xbox360 pad was not detected or working but given the shooter heavy nature of this title it is not a problem. Most upgrades are simply +stat versions of your starting stuff as part of keeping with up the gradual difficulty curve. Not very engaging. The user interface was clean, the idea for the different factions was alright and the tutorial was effective. The camera was fixed vertically but rotated smoothly around and navigation felt rather responsive and made sense. Having to wait for the next mission to appear, or go from spot to spot in the hub map to buy or start a new encounter felt a little bit like pointless padding. This game suffers most from keeping everything on rails. There is no real sandboxing your own career through contracts, having different reputations with different alien factions, acquiring exotic technologies, outfitting your own ship or anything of the sort from what I have seen...
i enjoyed it personally
Who would have thought that this budget game is that enjoyable? Anyway, this is one of those "more of the sum of it's parts"-games. You get ground colony combat, space combat and empire building. Each part for itself lacks deph but they all together form a nice unity. Wanna run an attack on an enemy space station and then build your own afterwards? Go ahead. Blow them up, yourself, with your own ship and then build. Launch a planetary invasion afterwards as a mechanical dude with a shoulder-mounted cannon that wouldn't have looked out of place on Quake 2, while killing all the humans. All that is garnished with some delicious space mystery and you get to land on distant alien planets untouched by the puny war you're partaking where you ought to solve riddles after killing the local fauna. That, and the game flow is actually pretty darn good. A nice mixture of openness and mission-driven proggress. The game manages to give me a world to live in yet not to bore me with "Hey, the tutorial is over, now leave me alone".
playing as the salavation army felt like some tough charity work, but all and all the game is quite swell.
Some parts are good, some parts a boring. Main idea that you grow up
from the rookie to the general and "save the world" at the end
is pretty interesing actually. I really like third-person and piloting parts. Some stages for example that one
when you act as a dinosaur (yeah!)[/soiler] are very creative. Whole story isn't a revelation but feels pretty solid to me. Yes, some missions are repetative. But you still can have some fun from it. Each separate part of the way stills not too long and you always can just wait for the next one if you don't like the current. For me
"high commander"
part was though but it still made me fun even if I just wanted to pass through is ASAP :) If you just want to have some space dog-fights and some pew-pew in a alien'ish evironments you can spend an evening with Salvation Prophecy. Game isn't too expensive and IMHO it is a just good for its price.
It's an okay game. But its 2019 so 19€ feels ridiculous. Get it for cheap AND don't expect much.
