MAGE SYSTEM: terribly boring, you clear half the area just to run into a mage statue which then respawns everything and on top of that you have to chase the mage back through all the ♥♥♥♥ you already traversed.... boring as hell. MAP: idk how they went from a nice simple map design to a map that looks like something i would've made on Minecraft when i was 11. platformer map design with a million different directions to go, and have fun remembering which way you've already gone because there's no map to view. ENEMY SPAWNS: After each mage alter you activate and complete that mage will now randomly spawn around the map, so after you've done 3 to 5 alters you can imagine how annoying it would be to have to run around the map full of trash mobs (too many imo) but also have to deal with mages stacked on top of each other all spamming a bunch of corny ♥♥♥♥ that will 2 tap you. ITEM DROPS: killing trash mobs is basically pointless because all the important items come from farming mages so you end up running past all the trash mobs for that reason and the fact that you know damn well you're going to run into a mage alter and have to kill them all again. COMBAT: this is one of the areas where i think they did a great job updating but its pointless because everything you fight spams the same 3 things with not enough down time to really get off any combos so you're basically playing it with the same simplicity as their first game. BOSS FIGHTS: spam roll while they spam attack WEAPONS: i actually own this game on epic and ended up buying it again on steam to give it another chance because the amount of weapon selection is way better than their previous game. if you're going to play this game you definitely want to play it with a friend, it will make it a lot easier to forget about all the cancerous ♥♥♥♥ they did to the game.

I JUST LOVE IT WHEN BOSSES RUN AWAY FROM ME AND I HATE MAPS SO THIS WENT REALLY WELL
If I wanted to play Getting Over it, I would of just played that. I might just be a IGN reviewer in skill level but I keep falling down to my death repeatedly when i'm hunting the next mage across the map for the 23rd time
Still a good game, just dont expect it to be "salt and sanctuary 2", this is its own game, but the combat is very similar, so still fun! big fan, i dont think the mixed reviews are deserved
I love this game. I was hesitant to buy it after finishing Salt and Sanctuary because of the mixed reviews, but it hooked me right from the start. The music and atmosphere are great, combat feels smooth and rewarding, and the weapon and upgrade systems really hit the spot. If people complain that it is not like Salt and Sanctuary, keep in mind it is not called Salt and Sanctuary 2, it is its own game. Both are unique and fantastic in their own right. I initially looked into these titles after reading a Reddit comment from the developers of GRIME (one of my favourite games in the genre), who cited this series as a direct inspiration. Since GRIME is a masterpiece, I gave this a shot, and I can clearly see the influence. Highly recommended.
is gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood
If you liked Salt & Sanctuary you'll like this. It's like going from Dark Souls 3 to Elden Ring. The world is bigger, the game looks cleaner and smoother overall while still retaining that Ska Studios hand-drawn comic book feel. If you didn't play the first S&S but enjoy soulslike games in general you'll (probably) like this. Lots of easter eggs / homages. If you didn't play the first S&S and aren't that into soulslike games either but you *do* like metroidvania style side-scrollers then you would probably still like this. The only real three negative things I can say about this game. 1) The menus are clunky: we're how many DECADES into this genre and you're still forcing on us items being added to the belt without asking? And in case it wasn't bad enough then when you run out it stays on your belt with a 0 instead of being removed from the slot, IT DOES THAT IN THE DIRECT BAG VIEW (INVENTORY as opposed to EQUIPPMENT). I can't remember the last time I saw a game do this, if ever. Navigating through dialogue with NPCs starts to get really tedious after the 20th or so time you have to mash through flavor text to get to the part where they'll let you click on the shop. 2) Tying into clunky menus: Some crafting menus don't show you the name of the required reagent(s) just an icon and your current amount. I shouldn't have to google "what is this red blob required to upgrade my flask?" just to see what it's called. 3) When you connect a cooperative summon it's basically a coin flip to spawn in right next to them or nowhere near them. To add to that, the on-screen indicator of where the other player is sucks. It doesn't seem to indicate verticality (are they above/below me) and I've even seen it pointing left when the other player was actually to my right. I haven't been playing this very long (3 hours at the time of writing this review) but I've already had two cooperative summons where I ran around for a good 2-3 minutes only for the host to die before I could even find them. Since the summoning is visually represented by a candle that floats around us as we move & we're not writing a message on the ground with a soapstone (like in those other games) the connecting player should be spawning in to the host location and not where they were when your connection was first initiated. All in all, a few (admittedly) minor confusing design choices in an otherwise great game.
