Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege

Really great old-school game that takes inspiration from zelda 2 and castlevania. The story is also pretty good, but not amazing. Highly recommend if you enjoy these types of games.

Despite never owning an NES, or even playing a game from that generation, I have still really enjoyed my time with Saint Slayer even though there is a learning curve, wouldn't discourage anyone from picking this up, even if it doesn't fit into their usual type of game

I might be pretty garbage at this game but I can recognize it's quality and love put into it! If you like these retro Castlevania games you can't go wrong with Saint Slayer!

This game has been a ton of fun. I didn't play castlevania growing up, so I wasn’t sure if it was for me, but it’s a great side scroller with beautiful pixel art. Runs great on the deck, it’ll be perfect for a flight when I want to get a lot out of the battery life.

This 2D throwback will remind you how great the NES gaming era was. Only in this case, we have checkpoints, password systems with oodles of secrets to unlock, lovely spritework with good amount of pixelated gore, clever spins on late 80s/early 90s NES gaming tropes, and colouful-yet-brief writing. Bring on more of these, I say!

This game is a great love letter to classic NES era difficult games. Though it may seem brutal at first, once you get into a rhythm the game really flows. Unique world and story with cool and fun bosses. Definitely recommended if you like retro style games

The best and worst thing about this game is how old-school it is. The art and music are absolutely excellent. But just like many NES games, the controls can feel a bit stiff by modern standards. If you're an enjoyer of retro games, you'll likely love this. But if you're turned off by the rigid feeling of some NES games, you may struggle a bit with Saint Slayer.
