The gameplay in Toki Tori is a blend of two genres. While it looks like a platform game, it's a puzzle game at heart. To progress through the game, the player must pick up each egg in a level using a set number of tools.

BOM VAMOS LÁ O QUE FALAR DO JOGO TOKI TORI. É UM JOGO DE PUZZLE QUE ESCONDE UM DESAFIO SURPREENDENTE SOB UMA APARÊNCIA FOFA E INOCENTE. CONTROLANDO UM PINTINHO AMARELO, O OBJETIVO É RESGATAR TODOS OS OVOS DOS SEUS IRMÃOS ESPALHADOS POR MAIS DE 80 FASES, USANDO FERRAMENTAS COMO TELETRANSPORTE, CONGELAMENTO E CRIAÇÃO DE BLOCOS. É UM GAME DE PACIÊNCIA E ESTRATÉGIA, ONDE CADA MOVIMENTO CONTA. EU ZEREI E PLATINEI ESSE JOGO — E POSSO GARANTIR QUE NÃO FOI FÁCIL! AS CONQUISTAS DO STEAM EXIGEM COMPLETAR TODAS AS FASES COM MAESTRIA, SEM MARGEM PARA ERROS BOBOS. E SIM, EU RECOMENDO FORTEMENTE TOKI TORI PARA QUEM GOSTA DE PUZZLES INTELIGENTES, QUE FAZEM VOCÊ PENSAR, TESTAR SOLUÇÕES E COMEMORAR CADA VITÓRIA. É BARATO, DIVERTIDO E RENDE BOAS HORAS DE GAMEPLAY. 🐥🥚 OBS: PARA QUEM QUISER VER OS PRINTS DAS FASES TUDO PLATINADO ESTA NO MEU ALBUM DA STEAM (:_:)

Bad game
ein wunderbares gelegenheitsspiel. ich empfehle es. sehr süß gestaltet. viele kurze aber gute levels. schöne welten. der preiß des spiels ist gut.
This is a course clear puzzle game where you collect all of an item (eggs) to clear the stage. You have a limited amount of "powers," enemies, and environmental factors as your variables in the stages. After playing Rush and now this, I think I've realized I just don't enjoy Two Tribes' method of creating puzzles. This is the second time now where I've thought a game from them has the building blocks of a good game, but it just doesn't follow through. Just like Rush, I felt that a majority of the puzzles (quite a few of later normal, and almost all hard) are just not intuitive at all. Granted, maybe I'm just not good enough at visually planning multiple (sometimes tons) of steps ahead, but I just don't understand how you're supposed to figure out some of these without pure guess and check, which, like Rush, only gets you so far because it's easy to lead yourself in the wrong direction, and sometimes I think this game even has visual red-herrings. Hell, I feel like the rewind feature gives credence to my guess and check comment because it would be too annoying to restart every time you mess up. Like I said in my review for Rush, "a lack of being able to eventually intuit the answers is the absolute death of a puzzle game for me. When I have to rely on guessing and checking, hints or, God forbid, guides for, like, half of the game, you've completely lost my interest," and it feels like it's applicable here too. If I sit and plan out, try various things, give up, get some help, and realize I was nowhere near the solution, it creates nothing but frustration. I'm not asking to be able to solve these on the first go, but I feel like the game gives you no method of figuring out if you're even on the right track (besides hints, but that's a cheap fix to the problem), and I only have so much time I'm willing to plug away at a puzzle before the satisfaction of solving it myself isn't worth it anymore. As with Rush, I can only recommend this if you're REALLY good at visually planning multiple steps ahead, especially since some steps are timed with the enemies.
Toki Tori, developed and published by Two Tribes, is a charming and cleverly designed puzzle-platformer that has managed to endure over time thanks to its accessible gameplay, appealing visual style, and finely tuned level design. Originally released in the early 2000s for the Game Boy Color and later remastered for modern platforms including Steam, the game’s simplicity is its greatest strength. It combines approachable mechanics with increasingly complex puzzle logic, making it suitable for players of all ages while still offering a satisfying challenge for puzzle enthusiasts. At its core, Toki Tori follows a young, yellow chick on a mission to rescue his unhatched siblings scattered across a series of increasingly intricate levels. The gameplay is structured around navigating these environments and utilizing a limited set of tools in precise, deliberate ways. Each level gives Toki Tori a specific number of items—like bridges, teleporters, freeze rays, or blocks—that must be used in the correct order and position to retrieve every egg and complete the stage. The puzzle structure is not about speed or platforming finesse but about careful planning and experimentation. This slower, more methodical pace sets it apart from many other games in the platforming genre. The puzzles are where Toki Tori truly shines. Despite the gentle tone and colorful aesthetic, the game does not shy away from difficulty. Early levels act as tutorials, subtly introducing new mechanics and encouraging players to learn through trial and error. But by the time you reach the later stages, puzzles become complex and layered, often requiring you to think several steps ahead. The satisfaction comes not from quick reflexes but from unraveling clever design—realizing how each tool interacts with the environment and figuring out the exact sequence to solve the problem. There’s often only one solution per level, which can make some moments frustrating, but the tight design ensures that every puzzle feels like a handcrafted experience rather than a random challenge. Visually, the game is vibrant and inviting. The remastered version on Steam features smooth, colorful graphics that bring the world of Toki Tori to life with a lighthearted charm. The character animations are playful, and each environment—from forests to lava caves to haunted castles—has its own distinct personality. Accompanying the visuals is a whimsical soundtrack that enhances the game’s relaxed atmosphere. Together, the presentation elements work to create a game that is as pleasant to look at and listen to as it is to play. What’s particularly impressive about Toki Tori is its timeless appeal. The mechanics are easy to learn and hard to master, the puzzles are designed with care and precision, and the game respects the intelligence of its audience. It never over-explains or holds the player's hand beyond the basics, but it provides just enough feedback to encourage perseverance. The inclusion of a rewind feature in the remastered version is a welcome addition that eliminates frustration without compromising the challenge—it allows you to undo mistakes without restarting entire levels, which is especially helpful during complex later stages. Despite its strengths, Toki Tori is not without limitations. The fixed toolset in each level means that there’s typically only one correct solution, so it lacks the flexibility and emergent problem-solving found in some modern puzzle games. This can occasionally lead to a trial-and-error experience, especially if you make a small mistake early in a level and don’t realize it until much later. Additionally, the slow pace and emphasis on logic may not appeal to players looking for more action-oriented gameplay or faster progression. Nevertheless, Toki Tori remains a standout example of clever puzzle design wrapped in an appealing package. It’s the kind of game that encourages patience and creativity, rewarding careful thought over brute force. Whether you're revisiting it for nostalgia or discovering it for the first time, the game holds up remarkably well and continues to offer a rewarding experience. Two Tribes managed to create a puzzle-platformer that balances accessibility with depth, cuteness with challenge, and simplicity with smart design. For fans of the genre, Toki Tori is a must-play—a gentle yet brain-teasing journey that proves great ideas never go out of style. Rating: 8/10
awsome game
I miss that one game where you were a dude who used some kind of space laser on the ground. I'd know it if I saw it. Has nothing to do with this game. But it makes me wish it were that one. Lode Runner? I think maybe. Anyway, this is alright. A puzzle platformer for fans of that genre.
way 2 scary
