Now, I love me a good match3 game.. this was built solid, but the game-play is boring and tedious. It is match 3 with no consequences.. and endless game of solitaire that gets a little less interesting every level. I beat the game out of sheer compulsiveness, and now it is complete and I am done! That was exhausting. That all said.. solidly built game. No issues or any serious bugs found.
More of the same...but if you liked Runefall 1, this is exactly what you're looking for.
For my part this is definitely one of the better 'Match 3' games out there. In fact, the only other one I would recommend getting being 'Fishdom' and that one has been sitting quite a while since it's release. Graphics are fine, so are the sound and the FX. The only real letdown is that you should be aware, there are no short levels in this game. So this is no quick grab and play variaton of the theme but a full fledged game where the 'Match 3' style is handled like if it would really matter. One level can easily take half an hour to complete and you cannot save your progress ingame. Nevertheless I can totally recommend this game for any players willing to invest A LOT of time into a casual game like this. The game will reward you with loads of pleasure coming from the production value that went into this and will totally give you that 'just one more level' feeling. Sadly you most likely won't have the time spare to do so as much as you wish.
Runefall 2 is a true sequel to the first game. It continues the story and takes players back into the exciting, funny and charming lore found in the original tale. The game mechanics are exactly the same and you can think of this game as a continuation with "more levels" but with some nice additions. One such example of these additions is a very handy world map that acts as a level selection tool and makes it easy to follow along with the adventure. The game has MANY MORE levels than the first game and will take much longer to complete. Yep, you read that correctly, this game takes a very long time to complete in full. The Collector's Edition of the game also has a completely separate adventure to play through when you complete the game. It is the equivalent of two full games ! I enjoyed putting lots of time into this game and highly recommend it to any fans of match 3 games.
Ridiculously pretty art and backgrounds for a Match 3 game. Runefall 2 comes with a set of wallpaper so I've decided to set my desktop to a painted island archway theme for the next bit. Whether you want to play with the timer on or off, there are achievements either way, so feel free to switch between. Unique navigation for the sprawling levels; matching tiles moves the camera. Not the best Match 3 game ever (for me that would be Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes) but this is definitely already in my top ten favorite Match 3 games on Steam. The world map is also detailed and conveys a good sense of humor, which also applies to much of the game. In some ways this is really slow paced and there doesn't seem to be much of a challenge involved in raising basic resources as they literally never run out during a level. This makes many of the challenge rewards that grant basic resources rather underwhelming. At least the minigames are decent, some things deliver rare and unique rewards, and there's a bunch of achievements to unlock, even for doing the basics. I'm really not a fan of the story's plot - at least not for the cutscenes in the early rounds of play - but at least they're well-acted.
Relaxing game
way to long chapter level design fallen asleep playing it stoped playing it no looking back
wtf - no cloud save!
fun
Honestly, this is an example of what not to do with a sequel. The first Runefall was the classic Match-3 game with a basic resource system added on top, the same idea that has been a thing since Cradle of Rome/Egypt/Persia, back in the late 2000s. The only meaningfully different thing was the mildly interest gimmick of having a large map that can be traversed. Overall, it was alright, even if it outstayed its welcome a bit towards the end. This sequel, rather than introducing any new mechanics, goes for the "The exact same thing, but more of it" approach. The maps (Particularly from the second half onwards) are gigantic, requiring 30, 45 or even more than 60 minutes to clear, and there's barely any difference across them. It's the exact same puzzles, the exact same powerups, the exact same objectives. But doing the same thing, with a map that's twice or three times as large, it's just not fun, it's straight up tedious. This is made even worse because resource management is effectively non-existent compared to the first game (Which was already fairly basic to begin with). Gold is by far the most used resource, since it's used to bypass every puzzle, and to buy more time if you're playing on timed maps. Stone and Wood are only used in very specific occasions within the levels (To build bridges). Sure, all of them are used equally to unlock levels, but that's about it. By the end of the game, you'll likely have tens of thousands more units of Stone and Wood than you'll have Gold. Essentially, it plays like the same game, but made even worse by the gigantic levels and the absence of substantial improvement between this and the prequel; to the point where it eels like a glorified level pack. Do not recommend at all.
