About

Runeblight is a retro-inspired FPS which takes place in a steampunk fantasy world on the brink of collapse. After having acquired an incredible power, you must take on cultists, monsters, and creatures of the abyss to free the land from an oppressive blight which threatens to destroy everything it touches.
Landing somewhere between Half-Life and Dark Souls (with a hint Thief), Runeblight features tight retro FPS gameplay, a throwback to shooters of the 90s, all within an interconnected metroidvania world.
Carve a path of your own as you fight your way through hoards of enemies, discover secrets, and become unkillable.
Vilaura is a maze of hidden paths. From sprawling cities to haunted catacombs, each passage hides something new. Your survival depends on your adaptability. Equip enchanted daggers, arcane wands, shotguns, and crossbows, each weapon shifting how you fight and survive.
As you explore you will find hexaltars, waypoints between the darkness. You may find yourself returning now and then to paths you've crossed before as new abilities unlock new ways to traverse in this metroidvania world.
In Vilaura, you can find anything from a shotgun, to a wand. A crossbow, or a grenade launcher. Just like the shooters of old, you can carry as many as you can find, giving you a variety of choices for each combat situation.
The world is woven with forgotten magic, its ancient writings buried in ruins, cities, and crypts. Runic powers harken to an age long passed, each one providing you its strength.
Equipping a runic power gives you a unique ability, some more powerful than others.
A plethora of these powers can be found throughout the game, allowing you to mix and match their abilities to your playstyle.
As you grow in strength, you'll be able to equip even more runic powers. You'll need them for the challenges to come.
Rusted machines continue to hum, their gears still turning even as the world crumbles away. Lost ruins and dilapidated castles still pulse with ancient magic. Vilaura has been decimated by an unrelenting plague. Powerful forces conspire to see this land fall into ruin, but with the gift of undying, you might have a chance at ending the blight once and for all. As you explore this forgotten kingdom, you'll find the remnants of a civilization in collapse, and those who still hope for its future—May the moon light thy path.
Explore a diverse steampunk fantasy world. A castle sits next to an industrial forge. A squalid town rests at the foot of a tower guarded by automatons. Secrets wait for you around every corner.
Of those still living in Vilaura, few will be your ally. Occasionally, however, you can find merchants and friends who will help you along your path. Your quest is simple, but there could be more to this story than meets the eye.
Runeblight is a fairly ambitious project given we're looking for the scope of the final game to have a variety of locations to explore, weapons to find, and bosses to fight. Early Access allows us to get content out incrementally, while also getting feedback, which will be essential in shaping the game. We plan to update the game with new stuff over the span of a couple years.

Alongside new levels, we have plenty of features we'll be adding as updates continue:
Controller/Steam Deck Support
Cloud Saves
Steam Achievements
Arachnophobia Mode
Improved Journal & Compendium/Bestiary
Level Respecialization
"Selling" Runic Powers
Weapon Upgrading
Runic Power Variants/Alterations
"Activate to Use" Runic Powers
More NPCs, questlines, merchants, and more!
The game will be cheaper while in Early Access, and you get to help support and shape development.

Vibes that somehow remind me of Thief and Witchfire, with boomer shooter Quake style gameplay!? Oh, and it's a Souls-like!? In the words of Lloyd Christmas "I like it a lot" A bit sparse on content atm, but lot's of potential here and IMO enough content for the price tag. Some bugs were present at launch, but the Dev was quick to get patches out for them. I'm very excited to see how Runeblight progresses going forward!
A sort of clunky and difficult hexen. Love it. Well worth it for the entry fee. Hopefully the game will improve moving forward, but it's a great start.
Great mix of King's Field's exploration, intricate characters, a Dark Souls-esque progression system, and weapons ranging from shotguns to elvish orb-shooting wands. Secrets are there to find for the keen-eyed dungeon explorer. Enemies are varied and require adapting your strategy to each type. It's still in Early Access and costs about the same as a Big Mac. Total steal. Pure indie passion.
