About
Run TavernQuest is a role-reversing twist on old school text adventure games. You're the command parser and game master, overseeing the game's inner workings for a player named STEVE. Can you guide STEVE away from his poor decisions so he can save the princess?
In this game, you won't be typing. Instead, STEVE is the player and he types commands to you, often very bizarre ones. Your job is to interpret his words and choose how the adventure proceeds. The choices you make can lead him down drastically different paths, but it's ultimately up to STEVE to win the game.

Fully narrated, featuring the very talented Jack Dundon
Control the environment and every NPC as they respond to STEVE's stupid commands
Engage in text-based combat where your goal is to lose every time
Customizable font and grayscale mode for enhanced readability

Oh my god I thought I knew what this game would be and I was so very very wrong. It made me think about the nature of free will and the effort it takes to break negative patterns! I was actually concerned for the characters! I had a genuine meaningful emotional response to it! I like Steve!! I expected this game to be good and it absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. Highly recommend, very very worth the money and the time. (Also legitimately hilarious, in addition to meaningful and thought-provoking).
Damn! This game is way deeper than it looks first.
I used to play a lot of text based games and still occasionally play some. While the game involves selecting choices instead of typing text directly into a parser, I love the aesthetic, and the story went in a completely different direction than I expected. I also found it hilarious, and it had me laughing so hard I was crying at certain points. This game is definitely entertaining, at times thought-provoking, and I definitely recommend it. After an hours-long discussion, debate, and voting session, all the rats in my basement officially approve of this game too.

This is an exquisite piece of storytelling. The humor is perfectly balanced with the pace of the plot, and there is an element of "just one more click" to see what happens next. As an old school gamer that started out with text-based adventure games, I appreciated the fresh twist on a nostalgic trip back to the foundation of my gaming journey. Well done developer!
CANDELABRA
I earmarked this game for a try a while ago; I can't remember when I saw it on Steam, but I'm glad I gave it my time. It's not a grand strategy game, shooter, or grand puzzle game. I enjoyed the ride the game gave me and it was a refreshing change from my usual games. It went by faster than I thought! I've still got some achievements to grab, but as a one-shot story-driven narrative, it's neat, humorous, and doesn't take itself too seriously all the time. I found my favorite moments were me plucking the narrative string to warp the story just a bit without spoiling the story beats. As I type this, it did remind me of the Choose Your Own Adventure books (Fighting Fantasy). I suppose the question is: is it worth it for you? IDK, I just enjoyed my time with this game/story experience—those are my thoughts (not helpful, I know). If you want a breath of fresh air from your normal gaming habits like me, I can recommend this game, and I have already poked a friend to try it. It didn't break my meagre budget and, at the time of writing, I had a nice 6.5-hour adventure. I wish the world could grow larger; maybe the dev will return with an expansion/continuation—maybe sci-fi, who knows—but maybe that's too much. Sometimes stories do end. Thank you for reading my rambling review. Maybe it helped you decide what will happen next. :)
The fact that I'm a fan of both text adventures and narrative indie games made this a very good fit for me, but I can see people who don't like one or the other of those being less enthralled. The developer lists Davey Wreden among his special thanks, and I think that's a good indication of what to expect. While it is not necessarily LIKE The Stanley Parable or Slay the Princess, it has echoes of both. For me, it scratched similar itches to those two games.
CANDELABRUMS!
Wow! Count me impressed. This is an extremely well designed, well written and well voice-acted rabbit-hole game that keeps you engaged. It seemly has no end, and when you think you've finally reached the end, it just keeps drag'n (secret pun there) it out. It is replete with clever prose and premise. It is amazingly well composed and well paced. You might get about 5 or 6 hours out of this game, but it's SO well worth it. I don't want to give anything away, but... just buy the dang thing. It's worth the money!
