Ruby Dreams: Immortal Promise is a free, short visual novel mixed with interactive mini puzzles. Using clues you unravel in your dreams to win over your masters.
The Story
This is a game that was created by a small team as part of the NaNoRenO 2024 (a challenge issued to developers to create a complete visual novel within a month). You play as the hired help to the Beaumont Family at the request of your mother. Your sleep is riddled with dreams of secrets to uncover in the waking world about the mysterious Beaumont Family and their connection with your mother. In the game you can romance three potential mates; Sebastian, the cool and composed one who is fiercely protective of the ones he loves. Roderick, the charming and flirtatious one. And finally Alexander, the arrogant and impulsive one. You gain favor with each of them through the choices you make and levelling up a “love meter”.
Gameplay & Visuals
The options are your usual display options, resolution, audio controls and text speed. Once you get through the tutorial section a journal becomes available which houses a gallery of artwork you unlock during gameplay, music scores and you love meter stats. The game is broken up into two parts. The visual novel part which is your usual beautiful 2D art and the second part of the game is an interactive, 3D environment when your character is dreaming. Really beautiful contrast in art styles. The dream world also consists of mini-games such as puzzles and interactive objects. As you solve them the bigger mystery of the Beaumont family members unravel. The mini games are played with your keyboard using wasd controls and a mouse for moving your character. The game does say it has controller support but myself I used a keyboard and mouse.
Tips & Tricks
* The mini games are not able to be skipped * The game has no save feature but you can replay a day but it will erase all progress from that day forward, including mini games. Yes you have to play them again. * The only mini game that became tedious to me was collecting the mirror pieces (6 in total) but you only carry 2 pieces at a time so you back-tracking three times to collect all the pieces.
Audio
This game for the most part is not voiced outside of the times when your character is dreaming. However the voice work, when present, is really well done. The soundtrack, especially in the dreaming parts, is atmospheric and blends well with story. Mysterious, relaxing and uplifting.
Overall Experience
For a free, short visual novel mixed with some interactive puzzles it was overall a nice time. Due to the time restraints for development do not expect a deep narrative. But for what it presents the artwork was beautiful, the characters likeable and the mini puzzles a nice twist. I did find after having to replay the puzzles a few times to be tedious as they are all the same format pretty much. And if you have to reset a day to pick different answers it erases any progress following. Since there are no options to manually save it would have been nice to let us rewind the narrative so we could just go back more easily and pick a different answer. Overall if you know what to expect going in and for the price of free it is some mindless fun for a couple of hours. 🩸
Please follow our curator page, Otome Lovers, if you'd like to see more reviews like this one! Honour your family legacy 3. You will find the one 4. Yes, I'd come with you Roderick 1.同理哪个都行 2.I'd do it again if I had to 3. It's okay it happens to the best of us 4. I guess you're right Alexander 1.同理 2. Tell the truth: it was Roderick 3.It feels familiar 4. Memories of someone special
To be quite honest, the game felt kind of empty to me. I liked the music - it had that sort of charm that I believe was the best aspect about the game. The background art was aesthetically pleasing to look at, yet I do feel like the characters could have had more details added to them. The puzzles were easy and they did not take too much time figure out, but I think it could have been more fun if the puzzles were a bit more difficult to solve. There are aspects to the game that were good and that could've made the game great... however, a game does not hold much weight without a well written story and well thought out characters. The story did not feel heavy enough to create any friction. It felt like there were more holes than answers. And what would have helped the story were the characters - they each had their own differences in their personalities, but their personalities were not unique enough to assist in the story telling. They could have added more weight to the plot. I'm NOT saying the game was downright awful, cause it is not. It has the potential to be a great visual novel and has room to improve. From what I said earlier, I liked the art and the music, I'm just saying the story could've had more details to it.
I'm just doing it for statistics ^.^ Have a nice day
Ruby Dream is, in a word, curious. It's not super polished, and it's clear that the developers are not as skilled at - or perhaps didn't spend as much time on - certain aspects of the game. The UI design could be better, for example. This being said, the game undoubtedly has a level of charm that you don't find a lot of places. As a straight guy, I'm fully aware that I am not the target audience for this game. Nevertheless, it managed to capture my interest in within the first 5 minutes, and I fully completed two character routes. The 3D sections have very solid visual effects, and the art overall is serviceable for the story. Voice acting is passable, although I don't personally think it fits the characters. The primary issue with the voice acting is the reverb, which cuts off sometimes. The actual game design in the 3D sections is surprisingly decent, and actually did keep my interest, despite containing relatively basic puzzles. The pacing for the puzzles is quite good, and it never felt dragged out. Honestly, if you have an hour to spare, and want to experience some indie charm, this is a solid bet; Especially considering that it's free. With some more practice, this developer could end up making some pretty solid stuff. Best of luck to them. (Amendment: I just noticed that the game was made in a month, which could explain the lack of polish in a lot of areas. This also likely explains the voice acting not fitting the characters, if it was done by team members.)

this game can be interesting, but it's far too simple and fast-paced for my taste, so you don't get much out of it.
Really nice and simple game, loving the graphics as it reminds me of DOMO (mmorpg from the 2000s)- the puzzles were a nice touch!
