About
Take to the skies above exciting island landscapes in RotorSim, a retro-inspired helicopter simulation inspired by the classic sims of the 1990s. Master accessible yet rewarding flight mechanics as you tackle diverse missions in a hand-crafted world.
As a new pilot for AeroAssist, an organization specializing in aerial support for disaster relief, medical transport, and critical supply delivery, your mission is to bring aid to remote locations. Whether rescuing stranded hikers, delivering vital cargo, or transporting passengers, the places you visit will depend on your skill and adaptability!
The flight model strikes a balance between realism and accessibility, capturing a sim-cade level of helicopter aerodynamics. Easy to grasp mechanics are balanced with key helicopter dynamics like engine torque, vortex ring state, and RPM management, while keeping the controls intuitive and not requiring expensive peripherals.
As of the 1.0 release, there are 3 helicopters, each with their own distinct handling characteristics. One is quick and light, one is a strong, slow behemoth, and one is the classic balance between the two. Learning each platform's strengths and weaknesses will be the key to completing the campaign.
Perform search-and-rescue operations, transport cargo, and ferry passengers while meeting a cast of colorful characters who call the islands home. And if you'd like to practice, mess around, or just chill, choose a free flight mode and go explore the world!
Weather is an active part of the simulation, affecting both visibility and helicopter handling. Missions can include stormy conditions, rain, fog, wind gusts, and turbulence, each requiring precise control and careful attention.
RotorSim is built to run smoothly on lower-end hardware (such as integrated graphics and the Steam Deck) without sacrificing the depth of the simulation.

Enjoyable little romp especially for anyone who loved SimCopter and wanted that same gameplay loop. Game has a lot of charm. I love the chill-out soundtrack, reminds me of PilotWings. Not sure how to describe it but the game has the same charm as those lo-fi coffee shop music Youtube pages - just a cozy little game that's not too difficult but a nice distraction. Would love to see more varied missions - the gameplay is fun but the current campaign has you doing a lot of the same things over again, and it's fairly short. New islands, new missions and overall higher difficulty would make this game even more fun, IMO. Definitely recommending at the current price and glad to support the first game by this dev - I think it has a bright future!
FIRST REVIEW OF THE GAME, Well, soon as i seen they full game take off from the demo to solid release i was the first in buy the game, now, i don't have words to describe this Master Piece, i think is no game on steam like this, The game and simulator, Is simple but incredible, you have missions and a small open world for now but is awesome the game have that old style flight games vibes and at the same time everything is alive you have people walking in towns cities you have ships navigating and you have planes flying around you don't feel alone, is only 3 helicopters now but they have different sounds and the skins itself are pretty good, the game preserve a 50/50 between realism and simply fly, so can be a chilling game and can be simulator at the same time, i really will endorse this project buying the game for friends so i can support the developer, i hope in the future he don't forget this great Master piece, I wish on the future more helicopters, bigger maps, oil rigs, fire fighting, and other works with helicopters like hanging cargo big electric towers, and who know in the future a good DLC about Nublar islands with Jurassic park thematic, I WISH THE BEST FOR THIS PROJECT AND I WILL ENDORSE IT AS MUCH AS I CAN!
This is a short, fun little helicopter simcade. I picked it up because it evokes a feeling similar to the 1996 Maxis classic, SimCopter. The flight model takes some liberties, but the essentials are all there and work the way you expect. I am an aviator but the controls and handling would probably be easy for anyone to pick up. Yaw is tied to the camera which was a little unusual for me but does simplify control. That's not to say all the bumps are smoothed over, there is still a helicopter flight model you need to stay conscious of. Your craft has inertia, and high descent rates can become unrecoverable because of RPM droop. Certain conditions can even lead you into a vortex ring state (look it up), which is a surprising phenomenon to see modeled in a game like this. There's also hover and cruise modes which make flights a little easier to manage if you care to toggle them. There is a free flight mode, and a campaign with 30 missions. The missions involve moving people and cargo around an island map in varying weather conditions. You will need to use the gantry crane, a cargo hook, and/or land in certain places. There is a charming little story and characters to go along with them which I thought was fun. The tone of the dialogue and how it's set in this little semi-idealized island nation reminded me of the similarly quirky world Maxis set their Sim games in. My two main criticisms would be that it is quite short, under 2 hours to complete every mission, and rather easy. Not counted in my playtime are the missions from the demo, which carry over. There are some complicating factors like wind and moving targets, but nothing really difficult, and the time limits are very generous. Sometimes it is unclear if you need to land to pick someone up, or use the gantry crane. I also ran into one bug on Mission 24 which required a quit and reload to resolve. There's some typos, and the dialogue timing could benefit from a little cleanup. Overall this was a fun, low-friction helicopter simcade that I had fun completing in an afternoon. It seems to be a single-developer project with a clear vision and goal. It also runs Linux native and uses the excellent FOSS Godot engine, which for me gives the developer extra aura points. I imagine this game runs great on the Deck. I hope they add a few more features to bump up the challenge and replayability to keep people interested. Some new mission and equipment types, and a dynamic mission mode would really flesh things out.
Enjoyable experience that scratches the itch left since SimCopter. Can't wait for expansion to the campaign, mission, and map set and would love to see a random mission generation if possible for replayability.
Enjoyable little helicopter game, there aren't enough helicopter games. The Developer is receptive to comments. I hope there is added content in the future. If you like helicopter games, pick this one up.
fun and engaging little helicopter game. playtime doesnʻt include the ~3 hours i played the demo over and over before buying the game. highly recommend!
100% recommend for $7.99 you can't find better fun in late stage capitalism. would love to contribute to this/any modding efforts. loved campaign finished in 2 nights after work. want more helicopters and desert/jungle map.
RotorSim harkens back to another helicopter sim several decades ago, albeit with better graphics than the title I'm referencing from 1996 that allowed one to fly around cities of ones own making. This title utilizes graphics that are welcoming to nearly any hardware, and crucially, delivers a solid fun factor in gameplay. The physics are moderately challenging without being obtuse and the game controls are functional even without a controller or joystick. I would like to see more airframes and mission variety to extend the playability of this game, but it's fun and approachable which can not be easily said for most flight sims. This is worth the price and I look forward to future enhancements. Reading the developer's info, I appreciate this is a labor of love with some personal history behind it. Here's to RotorSim and all the would-be pilots out there. Keep up the good work. Update: Now having completed the initial 30 missions I heartily recommend this as a good arcade-style helicopter sim. A worthy couple hours without much exploring. Simplified physics, straight-forward controls, and again - just fun to fly. The story is thin, the missions are repetitive but the developer has promised more helicopters and missions in the future. I look forward to more!
Short game. Fun arcadey helicopter flight sim. 30 missions of pickup people/cargo here and deliver there. Easy flight controls, Occasional you have to fight changing wind conditions during pickup or landing. My only minor gripe about the flight controls is that you don't have to plan ahead for descent and slowing down like you really would. The helicopter should popup more when flaring to slow down but not having to makes it much easier to fly so it is a reasonable compromise for ease of use. Great fun game. 3-4hrs to complete. Not very long but it doesn't cost very much so still a great value. Can't wait for the next one.
Very cute little game. Would love to see an extension with a new world at some point!
