I really wanted to like it. Typos/errors in a game about words/letters/codes has essentially the opposite effect. I wanted to learn about ciphers and codes, but it just has a sentence or two saying how they work...I didn't know wtf I was doing most of the time.

This game is full of spelling mistakes, typos, and just plain errors in the basic writing from everything to the names of types of ciphers to which number word you're required to find in the answer. On top of that, the solutions to some of the codes are so convoluted as to be almost unsolvable, while others require leaps of logic that can feel nonsensical. I don't like my games to be too simple, but I don't want them to be impossible to work out either. I'm very glad this was a free game and didn't require me to pay for it, because if I had, I'd be kicking myself for my purchase.
I love the game, its concept and its setting. It has one major flaw which makes the game nigh unplayable past a certain point, the ciphers stop making any sense and it becomes mostly a guessing game by the end at the hand of typos, spelling mistakes and just plain old mistakes. If someone were to remake this but fix the puzzles I might even consider paying for it.
free . but not free of bugs and misspellings . i too didn't feel puzzle 3 was explained decently . puzzle 4 was .. well yes .. puzzle 5 .. the request asks for word 15 and 16 , but then the solution requests 16 and 17 .. erg .. just no .. cant tell is the messups are "additional cryptic features" of the game .. :'( .. please fix all this stuff yawl ? ..
"Room 40" is a badly made RPG Maker asset flip with a bonus, they tried to use RPG Maker into a cryptography game... and one of the things you might think about cryptographers is they should be pretty good at spelling, because a typo in a cipher is really going to screw up the whole thing. Well, if you thought that, you were wrong, because Room 40 is riddled with typos, unfun cryptographical challenges, and the usual really garbage stock RPG Maker assets that everyone hates. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at less than 100 concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this doesn't cost me any money, I still feel ripped off.
My brain hurts after the 3rd case. Good concept, however, need to fix grammar.
cryptography in a story-lined game.
Absolutely loved this. Cracking codes and unraveling all kinds of cryptic messages, very very cool
