About
Roogoo is an innovative and unusual 3D puzzle game that has players guide and stack different shaped blocks through various platforms to not only save planet Roo, but the entire Roogoo race. Roogoo tasks players with guiding meteors in the form of shaped blocks through a series of rotating disks as a means of saving planet Roo and the entire Roogoo race. If aligned correctly, the disks allow the blocks to reach the ground and scores are awarded. Various obstacles and enemies will impede the blocks' movement and with the flow of meteor blocks steadily increasing as the game progresses, players will have to think on their feet to save the Roogoo and rack up seriously high scores.

Based on real facts, this deep, psychological puzzle game confronts the player with a baby's shape-matching toy from hell. Planet Roo is on brink of destruction when a race of Roogoos becomes corrupted by the power of meteors. To save the world, player must venture into to the depths of earth and cleanse it from its very core. Game is not too long but offers competitive local multiplayer and two difficulty modes - "Casual" and "Prepare To Die". Are you strong and brave enough to save Roo?
In the passing months I have been simultaneously looking forward to and dreading this review, it came to my attention that Roogoo may in fact be my favorite game of this last decade and is a piece of art for all to enjoy. When I first started playing I didn’t think much of it, the music was catchy and rhythmic to the game play but as I kept going it was getting more tedious I started seeing things that you wouldn’t normally see in the “real” existence. It was almost like it put me in a psychedelic trance unlike anything I’ve ever seen or done before . It took me a moment to realize this but I was in the world of roogoo, or so I thought, this world was colorful and fun but little did I know the true evil of this situation. Every single meemoo I ever crushed in my wake lie in the pit gasping for air as the butterflies pick up prisims and burry the meemoos in their cries of agony I heard I small voice in the heaping pile of meemoo bodys and heart shape prisms. This small voice slowly fainted away muffled by the hum of the butterflies. I abruptly woke up to a pounding head and shaking body I was in fear and sorrow but I didn’t quite understand what happened. As I thought about what had happened more and more some pieces started to come together but it wasn’t all that I thought. once again I played roogoo. The second time playing immediately went into state deep relaxation slipping into the world of roogoo for the final time. Opening my eyes I ignored the bright colors and music and demanded to talk to the butterfly king about what was happening to the meemoos, the butterfly scouts led me to his castle and into the throne room. He told me with a deep voice, “Why have you come and for what purpose do have seeing me?” asked the king. “I come here to talk about the murdering and disposal of meemoo and their children, and what they have done to deserve this”, I shouted. The king hesitated and told me what the meemoos have done.” A long time ago when I was only a boy the meemoo used to terrorize the butterflies, they would pillage the settlements, kill the men and rape the women. The day of reckoning came when the butterflies formed a government and army to stop the meemoos from this treachery. My father was a glorious leader marching onto battle for the sole purpose of protecting the people he loves.” The king looks proud of his people and continues on, “finally the battle had been won, at a cost greater than no other my father had died and many kinsmen lie on the battle, but it was a price that had to be paid. The meemoos dwindiled in numbers for years after the war, but as always they will come back in numbers greater than before” the king acting as if they were pests. The king continues with his story “many decades past and the meemoos started to build up their population and now its as big as the butterflies, the only difference is that butterflies are much weaker in the body but smarter in the mind.” The king started talking again, “recently the meemoos have been revolting and raping again so now we must kill them for good this time. I was disgusted by this statement, meemoos deserve to live just like the butterflys but on the other hand they rape and steal and are bad but so are the butterflies are just as bad for killing them. Only one thing can be done… There was a central air duct in the center of roogoo land and it filterd clean air from the real world, without it everyone would die and suffocate but that was the only way for peace. I ran to the duct and smashed the control panel so that it closed and everything died. As it closed I saw the faces of all creatures and I felt remorse. Suddenly I woke too find it was all a dream but when I started roogoo every one was dead and it was an empty field so it was actually real.
The Roogoo series has built its reputation on memorable moments. Some epic, some intimate, some barely believable--YouTube is filled with clips of people far better at Roogoo than you, doing amazing things (to people like you). Roogoo wants you--yes, you--to experience even more thrilling, more epic moments than ever before with a beefed up single-player story and the addition of map-changing levolution events and show-stopping destruction online. That’s the aim… and in this respect, the game is a roaring success. roogoo is a significant step forward from number 3, both on and offline. The change is more marked in single-player, where the story strikes a more intimate note, echoing the buddy-banter from the roogoo games. Your squad mates moo and poohave more developed personalities, and there are some memorable little moments in between all the shooting and shouting. At one point, Poo starts subtly dancing to some lift music in a rare pocket of silence sandwiched between some intense gunplay. “What?” he asks baffled-looking squad-mates, “I love this song. It’s a great freaking song.”
Roogoo is a casual shape and color matching timed puzzle game that manages to be cute and accessible enough for children but challenging enough for adults. The game features a campaign mode that eases you into the gameplay and provides some basic context for the puzzles themselves. The music is well done and provides a relaxing backdrop for what at times can be frantic gameplay. Both the Steam Overlay and Widescreen modes are supported. Given it's bargain price, Roogoo offers casual gamers the relaxing puzzle fun that is sure to find plenty of fans.
Have you ever wanted to know what it feels like to do the job that an automatic coin sorting machine does? Do you hate coins and prefer Lucky Charms' marshmallows instead? Do you also like insipid stories about teddy bears that turn evil when exposed to Lucky Charms? Then boy, do I have a game for you! That introduction sounds negative, but seriously, Roogoo is fast paced and colorful with an appropriate art style and some unexpected complexity / variety in its very small scope. I don't mind recommending it at all if you like action puzzle games like Tetris. It's a small game but it does offer a significant challenge, despite the cutesy appearance, especially if you're obsessive about getting perfect scores.
Roogoo is an interesting game. Its kind of like a 3D tetris. You have to know where to put the shapes VERY fast. The music is pretty relaxing too. My only issue with this game is lack of widescreen support. It really is relaxing and fun! I recomend a controller, because you can use an xbox 360 controller to rotate the wheels. The bumpers are what do it. This game is well worth the 29 cents you can get it for on sale. Go forth and save the planet Roogoo! PS. The first few levels are boring. STICK WITH IT. It gets way harder and much more rewarding as it progresses. This game will also run on crappy computers. If you are stuck in class with a netbook, Roogoo has your back! ~PR0XIDIAN
I got this game when it was on sale for $0.29, and was very, very surprised with how it played. I watched many different YouTube playthroughs for this game, and also read many reviews - a good number of both have (unfortunately) involved the authors giving up on the game within the first few minutes. For anyone who ends up trying this game, please, I implore you all to give it a chance and play through at least the first few levels/sections before determining a verdict. If you like challenging, brutal twitch/reflex-based gameplay, and have masochistic tendencies, then you will really enjoy this game. The aesthetics are decent - the backgrounds are nice, however, you will mostly be paying attention to the falling block shapes. The music and sounds are okay, but I preferred to play with the audio muted in favor of my own. The story is pretty basic, but provides a good rationale of why you are playing with different block shapes (which are actually "meteors" in the game world). The controls are very simple - left and right arrow keys to rotate the base of each platform, and down arrow key to accelerate the fall of your current block(s). The tutorials are quick and helpful. The learning curve is entirely dependent on your skill at twitch/reflex gameplay. The most difficult part for me was the last section (6), which has a combination of every mechanic in the game. Difficulty progression is reasonable, and each new mechanic introduced is given in a basic form before the advanced conception in subsequent levels. During gameplay, different block shapes will fall through an initial platform, and your goal is to get enough stacks of each shape to the bottommost platform. As you progress, new mechanics are introduced, like more shapes to deal with, opening/closing lids that must be bypassed, and blocks that fall in rapid succession. Timing is the primary element in this game, and quick reflexes will benefit you greatly. Overall, the game is a fantastic challenge for twitch junkies, and I often find myself raging at how much the game seems to troll you at the right (or wrong) times. Recommend! Roogoo is one of the oldest games on Steam and was an early purchase I made. It runs on Windows 10 and has controller support but really shows it's age with the 800x600 resolution. There isn't a compelling reason to play, each level is nearly the same as the last just at a faster pace. Rotate the platforms to fit the shapes as they fall. That's it. There is a local vs mode which might appeal to those that play every Tetris-like game available and need something more. I plan to remove this game from my library.
Roogoo is an ancient console ported game from 2008. It's a whopping 16 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware. The game itself is, well, pretty bad. It's a family friendly game, where you rotate a number of platforms around a spindle, so that the holes in the platform "catch" the falling block. You know, the educational baby toys where they have to put square pegs in square holes? That's the entirety of this game... and it's bad. The technical delivery is awful, too. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio, due to the age of the game, it predates the 16:9 widescreen gaming standard established back in 2006. It's possible they're marketing this towards people using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game is being specifically marketed towards people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. It's obviously not going to look right on a modern 16:9 gaming display. The implementation here is of such poor quality, the developer couldn't work out how to make the game display in fullscreen, it only runs in a window. If you try to maximise the window, this causes the game to crash, you have to restart it. At least it tries to go into full screen mode? Anyway, this is a serious defect that the developer should have fixed if they wanted to keep trying to get money out of gamers for this product. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. Because this is designed for handheld/portable gaming appliances (notably Nintendo DS), it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the low power handheld gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the mobile game developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for low power handhelds forces upon a game. While this might run well on a Steam Deck, we must remember the vast majority of gamers here are gaming on PC. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The game never really caught on with the millions of gamers on Steam, with a very low peak player count close to launch, and then just a handful of players launching this game every couple of days. This is undoubtedly caused by factors such as those raised in this review. It's always helpful with buying decisions to consider how popular and successful the product is, and unfortunately while this did accumulate a few participation trophy reviews, overall, people just aren't using it. So, should you buy this game? Roogoo is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $4 USD, and it's not worth it. The game is just too old, hasn't been modernised. And as the old saying goes, you can't go home again. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product. Note: Due to the very poor quality of the game, all the comedians came out of the woodwork. The vast majority of the reviews for this game are joke reviews, such as "this game cured my cancer, saved my marriage, changed my life" etc. Because most of the reviews are as insincere/mocking the game, and if you removed the fake/joke reviews the game would have a markedly different review score, the positive review score for this game should be disregarded.
