ROMEO IS PEAK MAN In an era of A.I. generated slop to play a game made this painstakingly. Featuring so many varying art styles. Claymation, Pixel Art, 3D, 2D Animated Cutscenes, Cutscenes mimicking Comic Books. It's jarring the first couple of chapters to have the game hot swapping art-styles this way. But it begins to fall into a predictable rhythm, and isn't jarring once your used to chapter flow and gameplay progression. Combat is genuinely amazing, it's awkward at first but when you get the hang of it, it's just so viscerally satisfying. Boss themes are genuinely amazing, there is only one that in my opinion that is genuinely bad, but every single other boss theme I've heard just completely slaps. Genuinely some of the best boss themes I've ever heard in a game. People are absolutely SLEEPING on the Juggernaut fist weapons. The spam heavy combo is absolutely maddening with the kind of stagger damage it has. You can absolutely style on bosses with it, you can also effectively chain this with Bloody Summer to cast most bosses into stunlock hell. The Juggernaut fist weapons are hands down my favorite weapon I've ever used in a hack and slash style game. If they are nerfed I will genuinely cry. This game will not be everyone's cup of tea. If you are going in expecting a captivating story with interesting themes, you will be sorely disappointed. The story has interesting ideas and themes for sure, but they are not meant to be taken seriously. This game revels in its own stupidity, postmodern absurdity takes the drivers seat with broad strokes of pop culture references and iconography used to paint the scenery. This is style over substance full stop, and for me I absolutely love it. It's a videogame that revels in the fact it's a videogame, and it's beautiful. In an era where more than ever, video games go all in on writing, and cast top industry voice acting, it's refreshing to play a videogame where the story is mostly used as a means to structure the action. Suggestions I have: Have a "Shut Up Grandpa!" - gameplay toggle in the settings. Dude is always reminding me to plant more Bastards, or the Infamous "If you are getting your ass kicked" line after dying too many times to a boss which is just infuriating. Complaints I have: Overreliance on Subspace sections in some levels. They are great as a way to break up the pacing, but some levels just utilize this mechanic way too much, and by the end of the game it's a mechanic that definitely overstays it's welcome. Fused-Reanimated should definitely get a slight nerf. Specifically his poison waves move that comes out when he's down to around half health. Infuriating move that absolutely nukes your health-bar out of nowhere, the damage should have like a 20% damage reduction per wave that hits you. I beat him in around 5 tries, but I could see this boss being an absolutely brutal skill check for a lot of players. 9/10
