About
In Roma Invicta you have the honor of conquering ancient Gaul with your Roman legions. The game combines action oriented real-time battles with turn-based strategy on the campaign map where you raise, supply and move your armies.
The game can best be described as a mixture of the old Amiga classic 'North and South' and the 'Total War' series.
Experience a lovingly handcrafted scenery of ancient Gaul.
Recruit your troops from legionnaires to scorpion artillery to Germanic cavalry.
Fight in tactical and action-packed real-time battles with hundreds of individual soldiers.
Slow down or pause the battle to always stay in control and give orders with no hurry.
Hand over parts of your army to the AI to always keep control even in larger battles.
Supply your troops and always pay attention to the changing of the seasons.
You decide whether to bring peace to the Gallic villages or whether to plunder them and thus further ignite the resistance against you.
Different starting conditions and difficulty levels ensure replay value.
Support a hobby game developer in his first commercial game, all done by himself.

This is VERY simple and it barely offers any content, you've seen everything this game has to offer in under an hour. I've gotten this for very cheap in a bundle but I don't think I could recommend this for the full price. It feels way more like a tech demo than an actual game. (3.9/10)
I really wish that I could play this game as it reminds me of Centurion: Defender of Rome. The problem is that this game is pretty much unplayable for me with an average of 4 fps, starting with the intro. All animations have been default turned off already and yet this plays like a stop motion game with frequent dips to 1 fps. I can play big demanding games, but this relatively simple game is apparently just too much. When checking the discussion board I am hardly the only one with this issue. The dev seems to have added some performance settings, but none of those work for me. My videocard isn't even maxed out, so something else is deeply wrong with this game. I doubt this gets fixed as the game hasn't been updated anymore in a while, as such I cannot recommend this to anyone. You might be lucky and this game might work smoothly on your system, but it seems to be a gamble.
the strategic map mode is a little hard to understand and is generally just feels a little meh. The tactical RTS combat is fine, but pretty simple and usually decided by who has more units than any other factors. They combine for a game that isn't bad, but not something I'd suggest to anyone
It's better than Total War; Rome Remastered.
North and South influence immediately detected and later confirmed when I found the developers posts. A single-serving bite sized 1 man indie game. I wont dunk on this too hard but 1 or 2 more features would have given this a shot for an indie breakthrough. Using North and South for reference you can remember the tomahawk mechanic and the free reinforcement boat mechanic, or most importantly the train robbery / fort attack mini game. What if this had a Alesia style trench / siege engine mini game? literally 1 more thing is needed to turn this from "cute" to "impressive"
cute pixel art, fluid animations. nothing more .. 5€ ? too much honestly maybe with some mods or DLC will be fun, who knows ? wait the sales.
A quirky little game which is essentially a VERY simplified Rome: Total War. By very simplified, I mean 0 diplomacy, 1 small map, 1 playable faction, 5 unit types, minimal tactics (pilum throw, testudo formation, and charge), and a campaign which can be completed within 1 hour. There is a custom battle mode, but this gets boring quite quickly. Mod support is a thing, but only affects custom battles and does not introduce new campaigns/maps The pixel graphics add a nice charm to the game. The music and sound effects are satisfactory. The game resembles the depth and quality of a 'flash game' that you would play in your browser for free on a website like Kongregate. Despite all this, this game was developed by one single individual as their first full-release. Taking all this into account, I would say the game is worth a buy for anyone who wants a unique grand strategy experience, takes an interest in Ancient Roman history, and/or for those of you who want to support small indie developers with great potential. 7/10 good fun for an hour or two.
