9/10 Challenging two-character pathfinder. What is it: A pathfinding game in which you control two characters at once, the titular Roku (red) and Rei (blue), trying to reach their respective targets at the same time. I’ve seen this formula tried several times, with more or less success, but this game does it well. And by “well” I mean challenging in a good way. Most of the time the two characters move in opposite directions, but not always. With the exception of the first few levels, there are few or no brick walls to stop one character from moving, but fire walls that burn and kill! The walls and fires and all other elements can have one of three colors, which means that they can interact only with Roku, only with Rei, or both. A red fire is no problem for Rei, and a blue wall cannot stop Roku. But also, Roku cannot pick up a blue key, and Rei cannot push a red button. There are gates and keys, teleporters, buttons that can turn on and off any other element (including the characters and the targets), brushes that can change the color of things, all with the three color versions. Together, all these elements combine exquisitely to form grueling puzzles. Hard, but also fun. And there are a lot of different kinds of levels, simple pathfinding through a simple maze, navigating a hellish maze of jumbled portals, managing resources, discovering and using weird mechanic interactions, and more. The game manages to stay fresh for more than a hundred levels. How hard is it: Moderate. How long is it: 105 levels in 7 chapters, 5-10 hours. All chapters are unlocked from the start, two next levels unlocked in every chapter, but there is an “unlock all” feature. Progress and achievements reset if you want to replay it from scratch. Level design: Good. Good mechanics, varied levels, non-obvious solutions. Personally I disliked the levels with just a maze of portals, and I think that a few levels may have unintended solutions. Quality: Very good. Decent puzzles. Undo, reset, good level select. Good keyboard and controller support, fully configurable. Plenty of settings. Only dark mode supported. Cloud saving, good achievements, level editor with workshop support. Fast and responsive. Worth the price: Yes. Most positive aspect for me: Having to juggle two characters moving sometimes in the same direction and sometimes in opposite directions was a good mental exercise. Most negative aspect for me: Nothing. What would make it better: Not much. Multiple save slots. Undo through restarts. White mode. And more levels like the Size Doesn’t Matter and Strange Mechanics chapters. Also consider: Danger Ducklings, also control two characters at once, but they move in the same direction. Corgi Cove, sometimes more than 2 characters, with same or opposite directions and buttons that switch the direction of movement. I'm the developer, so I highly recommend this game! But I'm definitely biased!
Love this game, very relaxing but not boring. Content is huge and there's a workshop and an editor too. Very well optimized, one of the few games that you can keep in background with a very little resource usage. Thanks guys!
What a beautiful puzzle game, colorful, challenging, entertaining. I loved creating my own levels! Really beautiful, super suggested!
Great game An original idea (characters move in opposite directions) with a lot of different mechanics that make every level different. Some levels are very challenging but not frustrating
I Like This Game Alot Its Like Baba Is You But With Colored Fires (Idk...) Its Really Cool I Hope It Can Get Expanded
Nice music, old graphic style, yet challenging. Roku and Rei is a game that looks easy at first, but your brain has to be connected if you want to advance. I'm not the smartest kind of guy for games such this, so i let anyone close to my pc help me solve the hardest levels and everyone finds it funny and intriguing. It's nothing serious, but can keep your mind active and it feels very satisfying to figure out the right moves! Worth to try the demo at least!
Chill and challenging puzzle game, I like it.
10/10 Absolutely loving this game! The pixel art is beautiful and nostalgic, and the puzzles are perfectly challenging. The music is incredibly relaxing and chill, creating a soothing atmosphere that enhances the overall experience. Each level offers a fresh and engaging experience that keeps me coming back for more. I thoroughly enjoyed the option to create levels using the built-in editor to challenge friends. This game is a true gem for anyone who enjoys clever pathfinding challenges and a retro aesthetic. Highly recommended!
Pretty decent stuff in my opinion. Not a huge logic guy here, but I had fun. Sometimes it felt like "well, am I that stupid?" The tutorial is cool but the game has a learning curve for sure!
