A roguelike twist on Breakout, just like you remember with a thick coat of 80s slathered on top. It's fast, it's juicy, it's vapourwave, it's small, it's Roguebreaker! How many bricks will you break in this arcade game?

About
Growing up, I spent most of my summers indoors playing video games, trying to beat that one final level, trying to get just a bit better and beat my own high score. Roguebreaker is my love letter to that time of my life, when you could just lose yourself in a colorful world for a little bit. Beat a level, unlock a new upgrade, and repeat. It's a small, simple game designed to be played in a short sitting, just long enough to zone out and have a good time for a few minutes and relax. I hope you're able to feel a little bit of that as you play. If not, I'd be happy to hear why and what I could do to make it that much better for you.
Thanks so much for giving it a shot!

Break enough bricks and you make a choice between two upgrades. Beat 10 levels and you've got a totally different set of upgrades compared than the last run.
Each level is randomly chosen from a preset pool, so you have a general understanding of what's next, but you can't be sure.
The higher your score, the faster the ball. The more balls you get the more fun you have. It's simple.
Restarting a run means totally different handcrafted levels and a unique set of choices to make.

Break bricks like nobody's business. Hearty bricks, moving bricks, pickup bricks, innocent bricks, it's got bricks for days.
It's got all the pickups you can imagine. Multiballs, extra speed, extra score, extra style, extra fun. Too much fun though and things get hard, be careful.
After you beat a level, you choose an upgrade, go slowmo, suck the ball back to the paddle, fire missiles, tilt the board and bounce the ball, it's great. If you game over though, you start from scratch.
The more you play, the more you unlock, the more you understand, the better you play.
After mastering all 20+ of my handcrafted levels you can start adding your own. Just create a map and drag it into the custom maps folder and you're good to go.

Straight to the point: This is an Arkanoid-like game on steroids, with crazy powerups, randomly selected levels, multiball, perks, synergies and Steam leaderboards. The higher your score the faster the ball, so get ready for crazy action. Also, you can create your own level and download extra levels from the Workshop. Roguebreaker is a good (and fun) timekiller. Pros: * Fast and furious gameplay * Creative powerups * High replay value * Detailed in-game stats page * Level editor and Steam Workshop support * Global, local and friends leaderboards * Four game modes (three of them are unlockables) * Cumulative perks (you choose one between two perks with every level beaten) Cons: * [strike]The soundtrack is basically one music track playing on loop[/strike] Edit: the dev added more music :)
I like the idea of rogue-like-izing arcanoid & the looks of this vaporware-styled thing, but: 1. it's very low on content (both levels & perks) 2. rebound physics feels strange, not much control over it 3. while sounds volume is extra low, music is high - the game doesn't memorize these settings All-in-all it's an ok small game.
This is a my favourite game for relaxing and taking a break. The art is beautiful, and the gameplay is easy to understand but allows for skilled play. I would highly recommend picking it up.
A classic with a great twist! So much fun to jam out before bed. If only I were good enough to hit the top of the leaderboard again.
I happened to beta test this game almost randomly, without knowing the dev before that. And while the game is fairly simple, what got me is that it's quite made with love. Roguebreak does what it promises, does it well, and the dev was really receptive to feedback. This is the kind of small games that needs to shine and be supported on Steam. Thumbs up mate!
Although I enjoyed trying this out, there are some key things stopping me from recommending it. The idea is interesting, but the blocks spawn so low that sometimes there's a level where you can just instantly lose, and there's not much you can do. Additionally, you have very little control of the ball, so when there's only one brick left it becomes extremely tedious. I do think it could be a good game, but it needs better execution.
Really fun game to zone out and just relax with... The game gets more surreal when you realise that you are just a enabler for a rogue comet that hurdles through space to wipe out endless amounts of planets and galaxies. The music sure does set the tone for deep thinking while still staying engaged with just being.... an enabler. I could log hours of this and still have mindless fun.
Had an issue with slowdown effect, but after speaking to dev, they added an option to remove it. Now the game is perfect. fast, and reminds me of growing up playing these type of games. def a must buy for lovers of brick breakers.
Wiked game that will keep you coming back to smash top scores on the leaderboard chart! #14 currently, but will be #1.... so help me....
