Beautiful environments, great sound and music, and clever, solid puzzles, but be aware there is a *lot* of walking and backtracking along many twisty passageways and dealing with transition animations. I confess to using a tip guide now and then. It's really easy to miss something important and then not have any idea how to proceed. Occasional use of the guide saved me *hours* of walking around and getting frustrated.
I played this game for the first time right after discovering the re-make of Myst. Riven is hands-down one of the most beautiful games out there. The amount of thought and work that went into creating those worlds is mind-boggling. It leaves a lasting impression on you and makes you wan to experience it again for the first time. Having played both of those game, I became quite a fan of the series. Re-making these games it's definitely a labor of love rather than a soulless cash-grab.
Played it as a kid with my dad and now I am playing it with my kids. One of the best games ever made.

This remake is just how remakes should just be like. Not only are you able to explore the game like never before, including areas you couldn't access in the vanilla game, but even people who know the original like the back of their hand such as I will find that a lot of the puzzles have been redone in ways so that they feel challenging again. I did have a hard time having the game run smoothly on my computer as it would overheat with default graphic settings and would also lag occasionally even as I lowered them all.
