I realy wanted to like this game and i kinda do, but maaaan this game is frustrating with it's wasted potential. When you start this game, you'll have fun, a lot of it i would say. You'll recruit your band, buy your first instruments, mow lawns and busk for your first cash, play for peanuts for the crowd of 5 people. It's all good and nice until you'll start to see cracks in the "simulation"... Why bother with normal concerts when "Battle of the bands" is objectively better, i'll just grind those. Half of the skills are useless and can be just "paid thru". Within few months you can produce 100/100 songs with ease. And these cracks are basically on all the game systems... Wide as the ocean, deep as a puddle. After you crack the matrix, it's just grind. Grind so much more painfull thanks to the 3D world. The city maps are just grids with the same building for the whole continent with just a different PoI placements. Driving is clanky and not fun. Developer must have known that as well, because there's a skip button for 100 in game dolars that will just teleport you to your location. So, we get to the place and get inside! More... Effin... Timewasting! Venues (all of like 4 interiours) are pointless. You either run 2 seconds straight to the venue manager or 2 seconds to th left/right to go to the show. You'll grind just to get to the point, where you are playing at venues without interier so you can just skip all this. You can buy houses, neet! But there is no benefit to buying a better house than the starting one, on the contrary, i would say you hinder yourself by buying a bigger house. Since houses have 3 interaction points and bigger the house is, longer the running distances. Only plac, where the 3D environment makes sence is the hotel/motel, cuz you can trash them for bonus inspiration. But, it's a music game, what about the music? Well... Ocean, puddle, you already red that. Songwrighting is simple and easy to understand, which is nice but you'll learn really fast how to "game the system" and will produce perfect songs on a weekly basis. You wrote your songs, trained them, now it's time to play them for real! You arive on the venue, build your playlist, and then watch 30 secconds of a 3D concert where you can do absolutelly nothing. You just painfully sit there and wait for the end screen where you can see the stats and earnings. Excating right? Am i forgetting something? Ou yes, the music themes and trends! Why did i forget them? Ou yeah, they are pointless, just buff/debuff, don't bother. Okay, you made it. You're selling out stadions, popularity 100 all around, best agent there is so... Why did your CD flopped harder than a fish? You are literally the most popular band on the continent! Ou, that's right, the artificial roadblock called record deals. You can get those thru your manager and it's the only way how to make your CDs sell BUT the publisher must give you a marketing budget! And ou boi is this a grind... And you know what makes this grind even better? You can do it only once a year! So your endgame boils down to: Release a CD Do the required amount of gigs Sleep for the rest of the year Repeat I love this game and I hate this game at the same time. I could have been so good... Ou and one more thing, don't bother with DLCs, they are just reskins. And PAID cheats for 20 bucks is just beyond greedy.
I've been a musician since age seven, and I've been in and out of bands since age 13 or thereabouts. I've always wanted a game that realistically captures that sensation of being in a band. And while I can't say Rising Star 2 does that, I can say that it's closer than any game has ever gotten, and it's ridiculously fun along the way. This is, in essence, a business sim game. You start a band, work your tail off busking and writing songs and playing dive bars, until your band's popularity grows. In time, you're plotting out huge world tours and trying to figure out how many hit songs you have in different markets so you can maximize each release. The gameplay is incredibly fun, and doesn't really get dull or repetitive, so much as you run out of things to do, stuff to buy, and goals to chase down. Then, you put the game away for a while, and come back to it months later and do it all over again. As of my writing this review, I have over 1,002 hours logged in this game, spanning over the course of years of course. I might quit playing it for a while, but it's only a matter of time before I pick it back up again and throw a couple hundred more hours into it. It's just a ton of fun. The game makes it easy to add your own wall posters, lyrical themes, and cities and towns to the world map. The gameplay is original and there are almost no bugs in the game (and when you find one, the creator is super responsive and friendly, and he really listens to you). As a "real" musician, what would I like to see improved? - Let me modify my instruments to improve their stats - If you're working with a band manager demanding more than 20%, you fire that manager. Some of them in this game expect 40%+. No. Just, no. - You can't build your own recording studio, or buy an existing studio and improve it. That feels like a bit of a miss - It's unclear what makes a song a hit. You end up writing fifty songs and doing tours just to see how audiences react to them. Which does make sense I suppose. But in real life, you can sort of feel out songs and usually make a decent guess as to which ones will be crowd-pleasers. - The awards show is either something you watch or something you skip. I wish you could skip individual segments. if I'm not nominated for anything other than guitar, I'd like to just watch that bit and skip the rest. All told, this is a fantastic game, one I've always wanted to make myself honestly. I very highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys business sims or has fantasized about music superstardom.
I did give this game a thumbs up but I do have a love/hate relationship with this game and since I have over 300 hours into it it did deserve a thumbs up. The Love: It is a fun game and I do recommend buying it. It has a little bit of a learning curve for mastery at first but there are some nice guides in the guide section. I have played 6 bands each through 5+ in game years and releasing #1 albums so it does have replayability. The character designer passes and you can start your band with 1-5 band mates or just create your starter member and hire other band members in the game. There is further character development in game with skills and upgrading equipment, residence, and looks. The funnest part of the game is the beginning couple of years. Once you have an established band it gets a bit tedious and repetitive. The hate: it Does get tedious towards the end of writing 100's of songs to get some hits, make the CD, go on tour, repeat. However, you do have many hours of entertainment before that part. The game could also have so much more and who knows, maybe there will be a RS3, but I would like to have the ability to have independent albums sell in stores and not just concert venues. You can have a skill with a band member of Business but to release an album that would also have store sales you have to go through a recording contract. Would also be fun to be able to create your own label and perhaps support other bands. I would also like to be able to hire my own marketing firm instead of relying on the records company cheapness. Might also be fun to have radio play involved and taking the time out of your tour to visit radio stations and increase your bands popularity. Decorating your house would be fun and need some new/updated clothing. Also, what about custom equipment.. It comes down to the game could really have a lot more to it and yet without the more it is still a fun game.
It's like youtubers life... but better, really addictive and fun
I love the game, it’s one of my favorites. I’d like to suggest a few ideas to improve the gameplay experience. Adding instrument parts to music shops would be a great feature, allowing players to build or upgrade their existing instruments. This could add more depth and customization to the game. Also, from a purely aesthetic standpoint, I’ve noticed that bands always use the same instruments. Introducing some variety or randomization would make them feel more unique and dynamic. Overall, I really enjoy the game and hope you’ll consider these suggestions. Thanks!
bring me the bands
O jogo é divertido, principalmente pra quem gosta de rock! Fica repetitivo com o tempo, mas ainda assim, vale a pena!
game hall of fame for life.
Pretty slow progression, 26 hours in and my popularity is at 15. Really well designed and enjoyable, nice customisation and loads of cool features.
