Slight learning curve but is a nice challenge. Great to pick up for a quick session or a long grind.
Nice
What do you mean there is no achievement for getting max die and having them all be 6s. The games Achievement-Fu is weak. Otherwise, very cool game :)
This game is far from worthless and the price isn't terrible, but this is a case where the greater issue I have with Right and Down and Dice is that you can get similar experiences with better gameplay. Within 30 minutes, Dicey Dungeons was offering me more interesting decisions about how to optimize my equipment and individual turns than Right and Down and Dice was in three hours. A lot of the power you can gain isn't from solving the micro-puzzles of picking your route or figuring out where to allocate dice each turn, but rather from the random selection of equipment in the shops. If the really good items were especially rare, this would be fine: You would have an "expected" outcome that's fairly bland, and you would feel excited when a really useful/powerful Artifact or blessing is available. What actually happens, though, is that you tend to see items that trivialize the lower difficulty Dungeons (which doesn't feel great since this eliminates risk and threat, but you don't feel lucky for having found them), but you still feel awful if you don't get the powerful items because then it would feel like you're struggling for no particular reason; you can end up in a spot where it feels like you might as well just restart the Dungeon because it won't take more than one or two restarts to find a powerful set of items early and guarantee success. The system as a whole isn't exclusively terrible, and does have some factors that mitigate the issue. Each type of floor has its own blessings and Artifacts exclusive to it, and there are five equally random floor types, so seeing any given element for a floor only has a 20% chance. Even if some are better than others, though, every element has the same problem of having very powerful options that are just as likely as the mediocre ones. Regardless of whether you end up with an overpowered setup or not, the game always ends up feeling like a slog. If you don't get good RNG, then it's a slog because you're fighting increasingly powerful enemies while lacking things to give you a substantial boost in power, and if you do get good RNG, it's a slog because your victory has been already determined and you're just going through the motions turn after turn. Neither outcome feels good, and I never felt like the abilities and items I had available put me at a spot where the challenge was simply satisfying.
At the moment it's my favorite dice game! Roll different color dice, place them on the enemies. Use spells to alter your dice (50+ random spells!). Buy artifacts of blessings to gain an edge. Battle to level 12 and fight a boss. You can really use artifacts to get a nice setup to get the engine rolling! Simple game for a quick boost :-)
You really have to pay attention to everything going on in each battle, but ridiculously fun when you get the hang of it. I'm absolutely loving this game.
The tutorial is (still) broken. The screen size keeps cutting of the edges of the monsters and/or your dice. This isn`t a rouge-like either. You unlock new classes, but thats it. And for a game, where you are guaranted to take damage, there are quite few ways to compensate for that. You have to rely on items, that you probably won`t find in store. I have to correct myself. Start the game. Lose 5 times. Unlock Paladin = easy mode, because you (kind of) regenerate armor there.
7.5/10 - Was about to immediately give this game a downvote, because it wasn't letting me play in Windowed Mode. It has a Windowed mode setting, but it doesn't work, and neither does Alt + Enter. But I gave the game a fair try, just to try gameplay, and honestly I had a good time. I also played Right & Down (the previous game, which I didn't like), and I really liked this one. A much more fun game with actually fun dice based combat. I will recommend the game. This could have been an 8/8.5 out of 10 with the windowed mode fixed, but 7.5 without a fix edit - played 10 more minutes. I figured out the windowed issue. You have to select the resolution first, then check the windowed mode (might need to uncheck first). Maybe it also worked because I had restarted the game. But that being said. I did actually start another round and didn't really want to keep playing. So definitely not as replayable as StS, so for that reason will keep it at 7.5/10. For me it was fun for 1.5 to 2 hours I played. So pay what you are willing to to enjoy a game for that long, for me that would be on a deep discount or a bundle (which is how I got it and the previous game in the series).
