i want to like this game but just can't. it might just be me but the gameplay is trash
This game is pretty good. Its similar to osu, not exactly like osu. The only problem im having is that when I beat the level, the screen goes black when I try to go back to the song list. This prevents me from unlocking new avatars. However, it still marks the song as cleared. I hope this could be fixed soon. I recommend getting it now since its a dollar off.
Rhythm Drum, developed and published by SOLARLAKE, is a focused rhythm game that revolves around precision, coordination, and the player’s ability to adapt to an unconventional input system. Rather than simply following the formula established by many rhythm titles, it introduces a hybrid control approach that blends keyboard inputs with mouse interaction, creating a gameplay experience that feels both familiar and slightly disorienting at first. The game’s concept is straightforward—hit notes in time with the music—but the way it executes that idea gives it a distinct identity within the genre. The gameplay is built around reacting to incoming note patterns while managing multiple forms of input simultaneously. Players must not only keep track of timing but also position and move the cursor as required, adding a spatial element to what is typically a purely rhythmic challenge. This combination demands a higher level of coordination than many standard rhythm games, as it forces players to split their attention between accuracy and positioning. Initially, this can feel unintuitive, especially for those accustomed to keyboard-only systems, but with practice, it becomes a defining feature that sets the game apart. The difficulty increases steadily, introducing denser and more complex patterns that test both reaction speed and muscle memory. Content-wise, the game offers a respectable number of levels, with a progression system that gradually introduces more challenging tracks. Early stages serve as an introduction to the mechanics, giving players time to adjust to the dual-input system before advancing to more demanding sequences. As players progress, the patterns become faster and more intricate, requiring sharper focus and better control. While the variety of levels helps maintain interest, there are moments where the transition between difficulty tiers feels abrupt, which can lead to frustration if players are not fully prepared for the jump. The soundtrack plays a crucial role in shaping the experience, as it provides the foundation for every interaction. The music is designed to be rhythmically clear, allowing players to anticipate beats and develop a sense of timing. While it may not feature a particularly large or standout selection of tracks, it fulfills its purpose by offering a range of tempos and styles that keep the gameplay from becoming monotonous. The presence of multiple difficulty settings for certain tracks adds replay value, encouraging players to revisit songs and improve their performance. Visually, Rhythm Drum keeps things simple and functional. The interface is clean, with an emphasis on readability to ensure that players can easily follow note patterns without unnecessary distractions. The minimalistic design works in favor of the gameplay, as it allows players to focus entirely on timing and coordination. There are small cosmetic elements, such as unlockable avatars, that provide a bit of personalization, but these features are secondary to the core experience and do not significantly impact gameplay. The challenge level is one of the game’s most notable aspects. The combination of timing and spatial awareness creates a demanding experience that can be both rewarding and occasionally frustrating. As note density increases, maintaining accuracy becomes increasingly difficult, and mistakes can quickly cascade if concentration slips. This level of difficulty will likely appeal to players who enjoy mastering complex systems, but it may be less inviting for those looking for a more relaxed rhythm experience. In terms of pacing, the game is well-suited for shorter play sessions. Individual levels are concise, making it easy to jump in and play a few rounds without a significant time commitment. However, the repetitive nature of the gameplay loop means that long sessions can feel tiring, particularly given the concentration required. The game relies heavily on the player’s desire to improve scores and refine their performance, which can either enhance replayability or limit long-term engagement depending on personal preference. Technically, Rhythm Drum is straightforward and runs smoothly, with responsive controls that support its demanding gameplay. Its low system requirements make it accessible to a wide audience, and its simplicity ensures that there are few barriers to entry. At the same time, the lack of more advanced features or a broader range of content highlights its modest scope as an indie project. Overall, Rhythm Drum is a solid but niche rhythm game that distinguishes itself through its hybrid control system and emphasis on coordination. It offers a satisfying challenge for players willing to invest time in mastering its mechanics, though its limited presentation and occasional difficulty spikes may prevent it from appealing to a wider audience. For those looking for a fresh take on rhythm gameplay with an added layer of complexity, it provides an engaging and occasionally intense experience. Rating: 6/10
