Return to Dark Castle

Phenomenal action/precision platformer returns from the days of yore. Its reputation was unfortunately sullied by some poor ports, most infamously the Genesis version. Those who played the original Dark Castle and Beyond Dark Castle know how awesome those games really were. This version replicates the excellence of the Mac titles, along with all the old levels, updated graphics, new upgrades, mechanics, a replay feature, very helpful tutorial level, character customization, and even adds a boatload of new levels. This game is difficult, but gets easier quickly with practice and is incredibly satisfying to defeat. Highly recommended!

Much like the other reviews, this game is a nostalgia trip back to when I was 6 years old playing on a Mac 512k in glorious black and white. This game brings back so many memories of frustration and self loathing at how horrible I was at it, and I'm in love all over again. For those who weren't alive back then, or otherwise missed out, it still holds up and is worth a full price purchase if you love platformers in any way.

I couldn't tell how to pause the game as the controls screen shows ^ + P but i did shift + P and Up Arrow Key + P and nothing worked. I eventually found it was ctrl + P! It is too hard for me BUT if you have played any retro games lately, you'd understand the difficulty lol It looks great and plays good but id give it a 6/10

If you didn't grow up with this game you won't have the patience to finish it.

Az a tizenkét ember, aki annak idején Macintosh-on játszott vele és szerette, most biztos örvendezik. Új játékosok közül legfeljebb a Dark Souls-t meztelenül, mézzel bekenve, köcsögdudán végigjátszó eszetlenek lesznek megszólítva. Összegezve: van ennek célközönsége; én meg csak erre jártam véletlenül, de már meg is bántam…

I just thought of this game from my childhood recently, and looked, and lo and behold, a new remake of it is available just a couple weeks ago! Of course I raced to buy it, and it's worth every penny. Difficult? Of course it is. This game brings back the nostalgia and memories of playing this with my dad. Original goofy sounds included!

This game is VERY particular when it comes down to the control scheme and the mechanics of movement, jumping and occasional combat. It's uncompromisingly 80s in its execution and if you're a fan of challenging platformers with a dash of retro then this one is for you.
