Retro Rewind - Video Store Simulator

Takes me back to the '90s and movie rental stores right from the start. Reorganizing the store, changing layouts, buying new equipment, etc. is all really addicting. My only con with the game would be that there's nothing else to unlock after you hit level 20, so I kinda just stopped playing. I know there have been some updates and one is coming that will add video game rentals, which sounds like a good time. Also, the modding community for this game is great, so check some of them out if you haven't yet. Recommended to the OCD gamers out there.

I've had a great time playing this game over the last couple of weeks. I'm currently almost at level 20, I have unlocked all the movie genres, and the game is in a satisfying loop. I enjoy this game a lot, and I think if the vibe is something that appeals to you, you will love it. Essentially, you are running a Blockbusters lol. As far as a shop sim goes, this one is a fine example - I have not experienced any crashes or bugs (that I have noitced) in my whole playtime. My only real complaint is that it seems there is only ever one checkout, which means there is essentially a hard limit on the amount of customers you can serve. I would love an update that added a second checkout (and a third, and a fourth...) so I can continue to expand my shop. There is a certain level of earnings where you can't really earn any more per day, because it's not possible to serve enough customers.

Retro Rewind brings back so much nostalgia of the past when you and your family would go down the street and rent out the old and also new movies. I feel like I stepped back into the 1990's (kinda miss it). In this game you start off as a simple movie rental company with not much but a single type of genre for a movie selection. As you level, you begin to unlock more things such as: - New movie genres and titles - Additional purchase options for customers (like popcorn, chocolate bars, slushies, etc.) - New decorations for your shop - A repair station for movies that are returned broken and more. :: Getting new movies :: New movies can come in various ways. Many will require you to purchase but there is more than one outlet for how you get them. One of them is on your PC. The PC offers options for both new release movies and older. Some might have a shiny special edition reflective cover. Each movie title will tell if its old, the genre movie type and if it critics marked it as good or bad. The second option for purchasing movies is by a shady guy in the back of the shop that comes around on Tuesdays and Thursdays around 9PM and offers a few selective titles you can buy at reasonable costs. Outside of purchasing movies, some people will call up and say they are willing to donate some of their movies as an addition to what you already have, should you choose to accept. :: Overtime :: Over the course of your time playing you will see different types of weather such as stormy, sunny, snowing, etc. There is a calendar in the back room which keeps track of both the current weather and events upcoming as the days progress. For example, around Halloween you might see an uptick in sales for all horror genres compared to others. During the Winter, you might see more people checking out the Christmas movies over any other genre. :: The People :: The customers and your employees can be quite interesting. You'll get random calls that might be like "My child saw your advertisement of a scary movie in the store and now has nightmares" or you might get calls of someone asking to reserve a movie for pick up later in the day. Customers will also come to the front counter and ask for your suggestion regarding a genre, new/old types of movies or what critics said about the movie being good or bad for them to rent out. If you feel like you have an abundance of a movie or no longer want to keep a movie in your store, you can sell it with the clearance rack (you later unlock) for customers to buy to remove it from your stores inventory. Employees can range in behavior which makes it interesting to determine if to keep a specific individual or not. My first employee would fall asleep behind the counter, ask for a raise often and also call out sick frequently. He eventually got fired and I hired someone else more reliable that works diligently and handles customers better. :: Conclusion :: Overall, this game is pretty amazing! I have not come across any bugs so far. Its actually quite relaxing and sometimes can be hectic, especially during events. I love the weather feature and I enjoy the returns portion more than the check out since it helps me determine if I need to buy more shelves or expand my store to make room for more than I accounted for in my shops inventory. There is a poster in the back office which shows what you will unlock as you gain in levels. I'm actually quite curious and excited to see what other things might become available for this game in the future.

I love this game, so addicting! Its so fun being able to set up and customize your store. My only complaint is that they dont support multiplayer, If they add the feature to be able to play with 1 other friend this would hands down be one of the best on the market

Retro Rewind – Quick Review This is a Video Rental Store Simulator where you own a rental store, set sometime in the 90s, and you… run the business and grow it. I enjoyed the visuals and they have a certain charm to them that reminds me of the Sims games. There’s some nice use of ‘legally distinct’ movies and memorabilia of the era as well as the in game randomly created generic movies to fill out shelves. There's a great deal of store customization options available to design they store and it's layout as you see fit. Audio is pretty simple, the in-game music is fine and loops, a lot, with occasional moments of odd silence. The SFX for VHS tapes is pretty spot on. On the technical side, the game runs great and doesn’t appear to be too demanding so it be fine for systems. It’s a got a few accommodation options for photo and audio sensitivities and keybinds. I only had one softlock glitch after nearly 30 hours of play so this was mostly polished, bug free experience. The gameplay loop is quite simple and causal. Maybe a bit too casual. You get tapes, rent them out to customers, get money for it, process returns, and… do it all over again. That’s the loop in a nutshell. You can mix it up a little bit with some merchandise and concessions, and there’s an illicit tape dealer out back on some days that offers adult movies if you want them, but the loop stays the same. In a way, it does a well enough job of simulating a repetitive retail job… with one glaring exception. There are no consequences for doing things wrong. You can’t short change customers. You can safely ignore customers as there is no time limit on long long they will wait. You can even gain progression EXP by doing absolutely nothing and having an empty store. There’s not even a shrink system in the game where theft is simulated. I feel like this is the games biggest failing as once you realize there is no challenge here, its makes putting effort into playing the game, kind of pointless. Even the progression system is too linear for my liking as there’s no variation or choices to be made with it so any replay is going to progress exactly the same way each time. There is also a hidden cheat menu, but it’s inconveniently locked behind progressing a game file to max level and it ONLY applies to that game file (as well blocking achievements if you do use it so beware if you plan to keep that file for future updates and content). This really should had been a universal unlock so players could experiment in a new game file. So what to make of this game? I think it’s good and has potential to be even better, but in it’s current state, it does feel lacking for it’s overly casual gameplay which isn’t enough to sustain interest for the long term. I give this a general recommend but consider trying the demo first and maybe getting it on sale if interested. It gets a 6.9/10 from me.

I actually loved this game, if youre looking for something fun, but still 'cozy' this is a perfect combo. The Dev's constant updates and additions to the game is also really nice to see. 27- Hours 17/18 Complete.
