Playing this game had its moments of laughter, but it fell short of what I expect from a solid tower defense title. It’s a fun diversion, but not one I’d recommend as a must-play.
📝Story/Plot Without Spoilers

🔸 In a retirement home turned battleground, the elderly residents have gone rogue after skipping their meds! Now, it’s up to you to defend their home from pesky doctors trying to restore order. Armed with an eccentric cast of old folks, you’ll need to strategise and use their unique abilities to thwart the onslaught and keep the medicine cabinet safe. Will you emerge victorious, or will the doctors put everyone down for a nap?

🎮Gameplay

🔸Retirement Home Tower Defense attempts to deliver a humorous spin on the tower defense genre, but it struggles to stand out among its peers. The gameplay revolves around placing quirky old folks like Granny with her cane or Gramps who throws slippers. While the concept is amusing, the execution leaves much to be desired. The characters are easy to distinguish because of your visual design, their abilities and the weaknesses. Their upgrades are also nicely thought and definitely quirky and funny, but it needs something more. Some skill tree, or better animations, color palette, but definitely something more. ------🔹 The strategic element feels simplified, lacking the depth that makes other tower defense games engaging. Each character has unique abilities, but after the initial novelty wears off, the gameplay can feel repetitive. You’ll find yourself facing waves of doctors with limited options on how to adapt your strategy. ------🔹 The game does have some charm with its absurd premise and character interactions, but without more substantial challenges or variety, it can quickly lose its appeal. While there are upgrades and support towers like the Meds Vending Machine, they don’t add enough complexity to keep players invested for the long haul.

📷Graphics And Audio

🔸 The graphics are colorful and cartoonish, which complements the game's light-hearted tone. However, while the designs of the characters are amusing, the overall visual presentation feels basic and could use more polish. It fits the theme, but it doesn’t elevate the experience to any memorable heights.

📝Main Pros And Cons
🟩Pros- +Fun and quirky concept. +Colorful and humorous character designs. +Light-hearted gameplay for casual sessions. 🟥Cons- -Lacks depth compared to top-tier tower defense games -Limited audio variety with basic sound effects
😇Verdict

🔸 Retirement Home Tower Defense is a fun, albeit flawed, passion project. It has its moments of humor and charm but falls short when compared to more robust tower defense games. If you’re looking for something light and silly, it might be worth a try, but don't expect a deep or engaging experience. Overall, it deserves a cautious recommendation, especially for fans of quirky humor.

Rating: 6.5/10 Who is hiring those mammoth-sized doctors?
A simple but fun tower defense game to pass some time, where you are fighting tooth and nail for the whole nursing home's freedom against the pharmaceutical-industrial complex. Will YOU join the fight? PS: Poopy Pops gets a chemical bazooka when fully upgraded. Until I see the other old folks fully upgraded and I change my mind, he is the coolest around.
I've been searching for this game all day to see if it was part of the Steam Summer Sale. I couldn't remember the name of this game. I remember explaining to the developer that the game was too difficult, but in the demo the motorized scooter wasn't available. The motorized scooter is a beast. Now, Retirement Home Tower Defense has weird quirks, but it's charming. There are certain specifics that you must perform in order for the game to work as intended. You must place a heater and a medication machine next to the old folks so they don't pass out. I'm not saying this is the best tower defense of all time, but it's definitely one of the most charming tower defense games I've ever played. Retirement Home TD could also use a progression system, as I still find the maps a tad too difficult. The demo is still available. https://steamcommunity.com/groups/towerdefensegamesrated
Try the Free demo for yourself. Fun and a nice addition to the tower defense / strategy genre. Retirement Home Tower Defense strikes a fine balance--not too easy to be boring, not too challenging to be maddening. Easy mode offers newcomers, and those frustrated by tower defense strategy games, a very fair challenge. Hard mode should offer most others a reasonable challenge as well. (I'm not an expert TD player, so I cannot speak for that elite group looking down on me from their Ivory Towers.) Indie developer NightForge Games (brothers Joel & Jake from New Zealand) are receptive & active with the community. They should be proud of what they've accomplished--I'm impressed!
