A short but sweet story,
A reminder about keeping expectations in check.

Gameplay Info

Platform: Steam/PC Viewing: 4k fullscreen Language: English Audio: N/A

TL;DR
"The Retired Hero Gets Slaves" is a basic, simple H VN that lacks depth or long term replay value, but at the price of sub 3$, your expectations should be tempered. It is short, the art is decent, the story is simple and to the point, dialogue choices are basic, and no voice acting. It might be underwhelming and needing a refund if it cost more than it does.
Rating
60/100 Maybe give it a try.
The good:
- Cheap. The price being under 3$ made it easy to spend on and not feel cheated. - Simple story without excess baggage. It could also be a negative, but the story doesn't waste time or get hung up on itself. Just a story to propel some H events along. - Art is pretty good. Nothing awe inspiring or noteworthy, but its nice. Not fancy and not elaborate. Simple and likeable. - English version was pretty good. I did not see any blatant grammar errors or syntax issues. Made for a nice read where no extra thought was required. - No observable network connections made during game play. When playing ecchi or H games like this, I like to watch my network traffic and see if the game is attempting to connect to the internet. No observed connections with this one!
The bad:
- Short. It is really short. Full play through in less than an hour and 30 minutes of extra tooling around playing with the dialogue choices. It is hard to get attached to or invested in what is going on with such a short playtime. - No VA. It is easier to get invested with a good VA to uplift what would otherwise be an average or underwhelming story. - Story is mediocre. Let's be real, the premise of the game and its outcome was clear after 2 or 3 dialogues. It wasn't really anything to write home about. It was simple (which is good), but it also didn't keep me invested. - Dialogue didn't seem to matter. This one hurt a bit. I was expecting after my first playthrough of being the good slave owner that I might replay as a sadist (for science of course). I started picking the harsher dialogues and trying to force everything with a hope something would change, I noticed after only a few character's dialogue, the choice you make had no observed effect on outcome. I was a little disappointed and didn't even bother finishing the 2nd or 3rd playthrough attempts.
Summary:
Retired Hero Gets Slaves is pretty average in just about every way. It isn't really impressive nor does it have anything that stands out against a sea of other ecchi / H Visual Novels. For under 3$ the biggest takeaway is if you do buy it, keep your expectations matched to the price.

A skeleton of a story is here, plot points are addressed. The characters are fun with some having surprising depth considering the length of the story. My only real gripe is said length of the story; on one hand I can see people enjoying the speediness but on the other this story feels forgettable. I'm starting to forget plot points and I just completed it yesterday. It feels so close to getting to something more, to something that truly shines but... 7/10
Une histoire en plusieurs chapitres, assez sympathique à suivre et certains choix à effectuer.
It's cute, too short. I enjoyed this art over a couple of the titles. Needs more story and options
This game is good for what it is. It's not amazing but the story is fun and the art is decent. The choices don't really do anything, though, so if you go into this expecting some epic story then you'll be disappointed. But as a way to kill an hour it's well worth the price if you're into adult visual novels.
