okay i bought this with no idea what i was doing. what is this used for?
Actually good for the price. Helped organized needed information nicely.
this is a simple piece of software. you could probably replace the functions this provides with a website. now that we have the obvious bit out of the way, what does this actually provide? two things. 1. The Dice Roller 2. The Entity Dictionary to be more accurate on "Dictionary" it's a list of names you give it and it chooses randomly between them. handy if you need something at random for an encounter. there's a "reborn" option and the "legacy" option. the reborn option is a mixed bag providing only benefit the entity dictionary, which now has a persistent memory... at the cost of having to either enter every option using a mouse to type every letter yourself, or using the arrow keys and a confirm button. a legitimate downside if you have a list bigger than four options. now, the real meat of the software, The Dice Roller. more specifically the legacy one. you choose: how many dice how many sides the dice have any modifiers the dice have any modifiers the roll has with the legacy version you get to type using the keyboard, read every dice outcome, and see the full total of the roll. the "reborn option" doesn't even display any rolls? like at all? not even a total? it just doesn't work for some reason on "reborn" just use legacy for the dice. that's really all there is to this software. overall, I'd recommend the software despite the lean nature of it. it's no more than a dollar, and I got mine on a sale. I'd genuinely use the dice roller over a website due to the lack of ads in comparison, and the ability to add modifiers in the software, which a lot of dice rollers genuinely lack. I personally don't expect I'd use the entity dictionary due to a lack of a need, when I probably already have them in a table I'd roll on anyways, unless the players wanted to see that I wasn't fudging any rolls, and needed to see it in real time. which is a valid use-case, just niche. (I'd also be using the legacy version of the entity dictionary due to keyboard support despite the lack of a persistent memory.) 6.5/10 I'd willingly incorporate it into my games.
