Awesome vn. Great visuals, nice minigames, and most importantly - amazing love interests, 7 (!) fantastic women. Anyone who loves to play yuri visual novels probably knows how hard it is to find a high-quality game with that many options to choose from. I struggled quite a lot to decide wich girl to start with - they are all so cute. Not to mention hot side characters (I want to romance Ram so bad). Highly recommend for all yuri lovers, this game is worth your money, I enjoyed every minute of it :)
im so serious i recommend reading this even if you arent specifically looking for lesbian erotica its genuinely really good. completely unironically porn with hype moments and aura the characters are all very charming and fun, the routes genuinely have good stories, great soundtrack and art, generally good vibes all around one of the routes made me cry twice i cannot recommend this game enough. the porn is great too though dont get me wrong
This review is a bit late as a wanted to finish some routes before writing it along with being busy with other games for the last month lol. So here it is at last: It was by chance that I discovered Noodletub Games’ Love Bakudan years ago, it has since become one of my most favorite Yuri VNs. So when I saw that they were making a spin off sequel for it; Renai Bakudan, I WAS IN! Pledged the KS and waited eagerly for it a whole year and half! Even though the team fought through both stress and sickness (which caused its long delay) me and many other fans were more than willing to wait for as long they need to make sure this game was best it could be. The end result; better than the last game by HUGE margins! Story: One of the main things that I loved about their last Bakudan game was while it’s a hot 18+ yuri game, it had a deep and compelling story in all its routes. Full of interesting characters both main and side casts with their colorful personalities. Renai Bakudan retains that charm and story quality through all its routes but made them even better! Similarly to the last game, our MC; Juri Kido, an ex-Yakuza, makes their way to Akiyama to start a new life. There we get aquatinted with the main love interests and eventually at the end of the prologue get introduced to our route selector, cleverly shown as movies on a streaming service. What follows are individual routes with unique stories dedicated to each love interest, making them feel all the more special. Each story contains its fair share of drama, humor, and of course romance (with hot and steamy scenes along with it)! Plus as a “spin off sequel”, some of the old cast of characters from Love Bakudan make a beautiful return. Despite this game being a sequel where Haruka (MC of Love Bakudan) didn’t get involved with the old cast, those old love interests and side characters move on to situations similar to how they ended up in their own routes. With the exception of there now being a massive love hotel! Lol Characters: With a new game comes a new cast of characters and of course new love interests! The new love interests each have their own unique personality, charm and stories to tell throughout their routes. As of writing this review I’ve play through 4 of the 7 routes to play in the game, so still have plenty to experience. However the routes I’ve played so far are nothing short of amazing! Each of the girls had such interesting and romantic stories to tell! Shizuka was my first and one of my favorites so far with her action centered story and romantic dynamic with an ex-yakuza and a vigilante. Plus having read Tokugawa Blues, it was so satisfying to see all the references from it and seeing more of her story expanded from the web novel. Same with Mirai, having the story I’ve learned about her expanded into her route. As a yakuza queen, she has her fair share of the yakuza drama and romance along with the BDSM relationship. Dao by far was the hottest love interest in the whole game. Her route was full of flirting, passion and doting while remaining very romantic. I do love these kinds of love stories where it starts off as a one night stand/casual fling but then evolves into a full on romantic relationship. Ten’s route was a very sweet and loving route as it’s a “long time friends turned lovers” situation. The ending was really wholesome given the closure it gives both the girls for what they had to deal with in this route. The side characters are just as great! Containing both new characters for this game and old characters from Love Bakudan returning in the beautiful new art style! I’m glad to see some of the old cast and love interests in situations similar to how they ended up in their own routes as Haruka seems to not have gotten too involved with them as the last game. Like Teru setting the mob life aside and even made amends with Yuki and Himeko becoming a mangaka. The side character I’ve come to love more than I thought was the spitfire Yazuka Hazuki Mishima. Before its release, I didn’t think too much on Hazuki in Love Bakudan. But after reading through Tokugawa Blues before Renai Bakudan came out, I’ve come to learn more about her, her quirks and issues which made me feel more invested in her character. The routes she has a notable presence in like Mirai and Shizuki’s routes have me see more of those same things I’ve learned in Tokugawa Blues and her further development. It makes me REALLY wish that Hazuki can become another love interest for this game along with Dao. Hopefully in the future there could be a DLC or future update to add her as one! Art: Without a doubt the art style of both characters, CGs and Backgrounds for this game are nothing short of amazing! I saw some of the works the artist; mpmrpjb, did in your previous game Good Luck Baby and seeing it now in the Renai Bakudan is beautiful! The old cast of characters in this new artstyle looks so good compared to how they looked in Love Bakudan, like Yuki, Sei, Teru and Hazuki as the ones that stuck out to me the most. Even the many expressions they give look both cute and funny whenever both main or old characters appear! Really glad to see background art made for this game instead of the blurred-real life backgrounds used for Love Bakudan which I’ll admit felt immersion breaking and weird in the game. Gameplay: While there is not much to say on it gameplay wise as a VN, there are still plenty of new things that make this game a more unique and engaging VN game. The exploration aspect is a really nice addition as an optional feature to go through throughout the stories. Gives you an awesome time to see how other characters are doing by themselves or with others and gives you that feeling of wanting to explore more of the city and learn more about the residents and their establishments. The night shift hotel room minigame is very similar to the bookstore minigame from Love Bakudan. It’s a nice and simple minigame that’s played every now and then during each route and plenty of funny interactions between Juri and the customers and guests she checks in. Others: Also like in Love Bakudan, they brought back the unlockable erotic novels found from the minigames and exploration that we can read in the library section at the main menu. They are funny and hot books to read, along with novel made with the help of Kickstarter backers, myself included which I was really happy with both mine and the other books to read! They also added Tokugawa Blues, a webnovel set in the Bakudan universe years before the events Love Bakudan which shows the brutal and emotional troubles of the Yakuza world from the perspective of Teru and her sister Ayama from Love Bakudan (the former reappearing in this game). Conclusion: Renai Bakudan is an amazing addition to the Bakudan series. Improving both the engaging and romantic stories and the hot and steamy sex scenes while maintaining a balance between the two to make it an awesome 18+ yuri visual novel. The addition of the city exploration makes the game feel more alive with the option to see everyday life in the city if you wish to. The artist who did the character sprites and CGs are abosuletly stunning! I really hope this artstyle continues on into the future games. Despite the delays, the Noodletub Games team and those they commissioned have done an amazing job at creating such a beautifully drawn and written game! It’s like how I felt when discovering and reading through Love Bakudan for the first time, I got that same feeling when reading through Renai Bakudan, but better! Super excited for what comes next for the game and its future games. Also depending if this game gets a DLC in the future or another Bakudan-type game releases in the future, I REALLY hope Hazuki Mishima can become love interest! Tokugawa Blues and this game made me love her more Thank you guys, glad to help with funding this game and witness its development journey!
Amazing game made by lesbians for lesbians. 10/10 and I wish I could erase my memory to play it again for the first time.
TL:DR version
Renai Bakudan is generous for its price, with around 25-30h worth of stories and some small erotica novels to read as bonus, if you didn’t have enough. If you like wholesome stuff, cheeky puns, horny moments and even intense action scenes, this VN is an excellent experience in all regards. And if you’re less into those things, it will just be a very good VN. I didn’t expect an erotica VN to reach the top of my VN collection, but what do you know, it’s now around my top rankers with a breeze.
You’re not horny enough and you still have to be convinced version
I initially left some kind of half arsed joke as a review inspired from one of my favorite moment of Renai Bakudan, when I was done with 2 of the 7 stories. But now that I’m going with the last, I thought it wasn’t giving enough credit to how much I love this game. So I’m redoing that properly. Renai Bakudan has everything you need to have a good moment. For a modest project (I assume from the kickstarter campaign and the credits), Renai Bakudan is a clear improvement from Good Luck Baby from a technical standpoint, the game is rich both in musics, sceneries, characters and animations (with some hilarious moment for that later part). But that’s not the only impressive feat. I was already impressed with GLB having three stories, but seven of them with a reasonably different writing style, mood, and unrolling? And still keeping a logical connection even if they are seven alternatives? Just, wow. And I’m still not at the best part, because although I still have a couple of VN above it, Renai Bakudan is the only VN that I can safely affirm without a doubt that I love everything single of its characters, without exception. Renai Bakudan confirmed what I suspected with GLB: Noodletub games writer(s) is/are stellar when it comes to write characters, at least the kind which speaks to me. I recently played a VN which was okay in my regards but was playing with its puppets. Renai Bakudan overflows with love and do its whims with its humans. I didn’t mention it that much, but well, Renai Bakudan is an erotica VN with plenty of horny moments. But I wanted to highlight that, even though those are very enjoyable, the VN is much more than just that. It has nothing to envy even to the big names of the Yuri world and I do dearly hope that it meets the audience it deserves. Now, it’s fair to say my review might not be totally objective (euphemism alert). It checks everything I could love in a VN. And I am still playing it, at this very moment that, as fate would have it, I have just met the crushing experience of mourning, one of the subjects of the VN. I’m grateful to be playing Renai Bakudan at the moment I need it.
Loved this! Well written, romantic, steamy, funny. Dying for more! Would love to see more of the interesting styles cooked up for the route intros and outros applied as more consistent themes throughout! Really gorgeous moods some of that stuff sets and I think it could be really cool to see it expanded on as a stylistic choice!
Came here expecting a silly smut game, left after becoming thoroughly engaged with the plot! I caved in and bought the game solely because Natsuki was a romanceable character, and the premise seemed interesting. The art style for all the sprites and cgs are so charming, and all the character designs are amazing! Each character is written to have their own unique personality, and even though some fall into classic anime tropes, they all have such a humanity to them that it sets them apart from one another. I've never genuinely been invested in visual novels (which is why I tend to avoid buying them), or even other games with basically no plot for that matter, since the stories become so dry and dull to read after a while, but RENAI BAKUDAN had an actual interesting plot that had different themes and stories in each route that made me actually INTERESTED in reading the story and not just skipping directly to the smut. Heck, even if another game interests me enough to read through one route completely then drop it, THIS game interests me to read multiple routes completely through. All the collectibles and different gimmicks were such a breath of fresh air for me, since most visual novels only have the bare minimum features, which is a text box, a basic story, maybe one or two character sprites, and dialogue. I love the idea of collecting different novels to read throughout the game which are themed specifically around the girl you pick, and even more secret ones to collect if you do a perfect run. The exploring feature is something I've seen in other visual novels, but there's not really any incentive other than progressing the game. In RENAI BAKUDAN, you get to see other characters interact with each other and the player, and you even can get more collectibles if you explore all the areas completely. Even the night shift minigame (WHICH is my favorite by the way) is so unique in it's own right. There's an incentive for everything in this game, and it's playing whichever route you want however you want. There's so much to do, and it's practically brimming with so much life and passion for the craft of game-making (Metaphorically, and literally!), it truly is a hidden gem of a game! So, if you like yuri (or LESBIANISM, for you non-weeblings), an engaging plot for each character, lots of things to do if you want to 100% it (like the sweaty gamer you and I are), then consider picking this game up! I've literally only played for a few hours, so if my praise is this high, then that's gotta be saying something lmao
I really liked this game!!! We need more yuri in the world for one thing, but what really drew me in was the art-style, which I think is really polished and unique! From what I can tell, each route takes I'd say 2-3ish hours, which for 7 love interests ends up being like 14-35 hours of content! Well worth it I'd say--although I'd love to maybe see some DLC with Ran or Teru--they were hot asfff. Anyway, I liked the game lol. The NSFW were really great, obviously! So if that's your main reason for purchasing this game I'd reccomend it. My main critique is that the writing is pretty unsubtle and can be kind of cringey at times, but from what I can tell this team is consistently publishings stories, and the best way to improve your writing is to do it consistently!
I adore noodletub's games and their characters, and I am so happy to be in Akiyama again. All of the new cast is super charming and I love seeing the old cast be developed further, too. Hazuki, I love you! My favorite route was the milf route.
