Ren & Stimpy Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy, Collection

Glad to see these games on Steam but this collection needs Stimpy's Invention.

These collections might not be for everyone, but for those that used to love these games they mean a lot. Great collection.

The Ren and Stimpy Show. One of the best and most important cartoons of all time. This was my childhood cartoon and I still feel that it holds up today (Not counting that Adult Party Cartoon of course). It was also the Granddaddy of gross cartoons and also a cartoon that was primarily aimed at kids that adults can enjoy too. So when I was a kid, I owned a Genesis and so Stimpy's Invention was the only game based on the show that I've played and owned. I was aware of the Game Gear title "Quest for the Shaven Yak," but I didn't have a Game Gear. I was also aware of a few SNES titles but I very briefly owned a SNES but for some reason never rented them. When I was going into my retro game phase back in the early 2010s, thanks to the Wii Virtual Console, I ended up getting all 4 SNES titles, Buckaroos on NES, Space Cadet Adventures on Game Boy, Stimpy's Invention on Genesis (again, as my original Genesis was in a storage unit thanks to a sibling of mine and forgot to pay the rent on it, so it was auctioned off), and Quest for the Shaven Yak for Game Gear. I missed out on Veediots on Game Boy for some reason and it's no surprise for the Master System version of Quest because that was a Brazil exclusive and cost some dough. So I am not going to sugarcoat it, folks. All of the Nintendo based console games (or THQ titles) SSSSUUUUUUCK! It's no wonder why I didn't play these as a kid. I want to explain why: Buckaroos (NES): Bad controls, cryptic mission design during the inside the Space Ship sections where you have to guide Ren around from point A to point B, being able to destroy health and power ups during shoot'em up sections, and camera not being able to catch up with player when falling off very high platforms leading to losing a life (even if there is a platform below). Space Cadet: Ren has no range to his slap attack, making him useless to defend himself while Stimpy has a hairball projectile. Ducking is an inch lower than standing making the characters look like they are squatting to take a sh*t. Not knowing of what is a platform and what isn't. For level 2, when you play as Ren, if on a floating log and try to slap an enemy, your slap can make you fall off the platform. 4 LEVELS LONG!!!! Veediots (SNES): 4 Levels long (again). A lot of trial and error early in the game. First half of game is Ren, second half is Stimpy, no choosing characters. Levels are based on select episodes of the show (reoccuring theme here, folks). Throwing stuff is pretty lousy (distance can be Mr. Burns (from The Simpsons) pathetic). In The Army level just suddenly has Ren being able to slap enemies using the same button to grab stuff (huh?). Stimpy's Invention level is the ultimate example of retro game padding (look it up on Youtube to understand). Veediots (GB): 3 Levels long!!!! No boss fights. Levels are arranged so it goes Ren (Boy Who Cried Rat), Stimpy (Stimpy's Invention, the only time you play as Stimpy and it drags on worse than the SNES version), Ren (In The Army), No Marooned level in this version. Basically a stripped down version of SNES game. Note: I haven't beat these games yet at the time of review. Buckaroos (SNES): Repetitive music in certain levels. Odd controls (Jump is both A&B on Xbox, X&O on PS, attack is X on Xbox, Square on PS, Running is Y on Xbox, Triangle on PS). Delayed jumps if you get brief invincibility power up (important for jumping across water hazards and probably pitfalls) Fire Dogs (SNES): Timer in item picking sections. Falling item sections are like an arcade game so it's just save as many items as possible. Time Warp (SNES): 1st level has a ridiculous requirement for completing. Lousy health bar system. Player 1 is Ren and Player 2 is Stimpy (I hate this sh*t by the way). While there are a lot of games in this collection, I really can't recommend it. If you have to get it (especially for Buckaroos for SNES since that game is pricey), wait for a sale. If you want two good games based on this show, get a Genesis and Game Gear (or Master System if you want to spend the extra money) and get Stimpy's Invention and Quest for the Shaven Yak. Limited Run, please get the Sega console games on here (even as DLC) then maybe more people will buy this collection at full price because these titles are bad and it's not worth the price of admission.

Из плюсов - Игры в паке никак не трогали. Их не улучшали, не перекрашивали, просто добавили заглушки, чтобы на больших, не квадратных мониках не было черных полос по бокам. 5 игр в одном паке. Доп.материалы Кнопки под сохранение и перемотку. Плюсов не много и к этим плюсам есть вопросы. В первую очередь - кто и как вообще собирал эти игры. В паке нет легендарной "the ren & stimpy show stimpy's invention". Неужели, смогли договориться на такой жирный пак, и не смогли договориться по самой имбовой игре? Второе - доп.материалы. Я всегда рад допам, особенно, в ретро штуках. Коробки, мануалы безусловно круто, но маловато. Минуса два - отсутствие шедевра в виде stimpy's invention и цена. Даже по скидке 1050 рублей - сильно дорого для такого продукта. На скидках на эту сумму можно купить несколько более качественных игр, чем просто ретро штука на эмуляторе. Сказал бы нейтрально. Думайте сами, готовы ли вы отдать тысячу за ностальгию.
