I thought the game was just okay, not much content though, it only has 4 stages and +2 bonus levels, so about 60 minutes on normal difficulty. Also, I had a few small problems with the clipping on the hitbox, for example whenever you have to dash between any spikes, sometimes it's a bit tricky to avoid the walls. I think one area took me about 10 tries, and in general, I feel like the dev went a little crazy on the enemy spam. That said, you can lower the difficulty which will negate the HP problems, but the game is still has a few weird platforming sections. One thing I would recommend is to have at least 2 areas per biome, most devs would stretch the themes for a couple of stages, but you only had 1 or 2 areas for the same visuals; If you already created enough assets to make the level look unique, you might as well make it last for more than 10 minutes. A few other small nitpicks I have, some of the thorns had a very similar color to the ground, might want to make it a bit darker, and I was a bit confused by the damage, some enemies seem to do 1 damage, and others are doing 2 or 3? Other than that, I thought the levels and the cutscenes looked decent, with a few cute moments in the narrative.
Pros:
(+) Well, the game is mostly average in every aspect, aside from a few polish issues, it plays decently, it looks okay, music is nice (not sure if made for the game), and it has a few funny scenes.
Feedback:
Content - you have enough variety between the stages, but I felt like you didn't make enough actual platforming between the zones, like you have stages that look nice, but only 1 area per theme. Usually, devs will make 3 or 4 areas per zone, so you could use what you already have and just make more platforming content. Even one of the bonus stages looks like a dungeon, but you didn't really use those tiles much. Gameplay - the thorns need a bit of color coding. I had some issues with the tight spots between the spikes, easy to clip the hitbox, maybe make those areas a bit wider so you not hitting the ceiling all the time. The platforming momentum felt just slightly off to me, I think he falls down just slightly too fast, and the base walking speed without running probably should be a bit higher. Overall Thoughts: 6/10 The biggest thing for me, like I said, you have different themes, but only 1 area per location for the most part, usually it's 3 or 4 right, you don't even need to make more assets, just use those that you already have to make more content.I felt like the level design was a bit crowded in terms of hazards, even though the game plays decently it's very easy to feel like something is unfair. The game is technically not bad, it just feels like you didn't fully optimize the stages so there are some small moments that can be frustrating. I think you need to make the movement a bit more gradual in the mid-air.
Niche, obscure and underrated games: http://store.steampowered.com/curator/31294838-Hidden-Gem-Discovery/
Don't be fooled by the charming visuals... this game goes beyond a quick afternoon playthrough. No sir! Prepare for it! Each level demands sharp reflexes and reminiscent of classic childhood experiences. It won't hold your hand, but that's the fun! Perfect for streaming or enjoying with friends. Niiiiiiiiiice plataformer!
