Cool aesthetics, sound design and music. Clever level layouts and game play. But for the life of me, I cannot understand why the developer neglected to add a simple Pause feature in the game. You simply cannot pause the game at any time. For that reason, I cannot recommend the game at this point in time.
Game is a hidden gem, very atmospheric, it has a dark, alien / gigerish style with some deep sea creature-like lifeforms all over the place. The enemy creature design is just fantastic, creepy and very unique. Game is not a "standard" shmup in any way, it has a "one shot can kill you" mechanic, so its definitely not a bullet hell game. Its slow paced, you have to understand the layout of every map very well to succeed. Sound design is excellent, i love the music, and the sound effects, narration is terrible text-to-speech lifeless diealogue tho. Every level is replayable anytime, with 5 lifes. Yeah, you could say, what a casual, easy solution... Well.. AHA. This is one of the hardest space shooters you will ever get in your hands. Its just plain brutal, every single impact, bullet, little, invisible alien something can kill you, and you re done. And iam talking about the easy mode. You can learn the layouts, get used to the maps, but it stays difficult, becouse you have to be very precise all the time with your ship fitting through narrow moving places, avoiding constantly changing obstacles while hordes of enemies are attacking you from every direction. Remote Life was intentionally designed to be hard... but still, easy mode should be called easy for a reason. Only 3% of the players got the level 10 achievement.... 1.6% got to level 14... on easy. So, if u planning to buy this game, be aware: this is a dark souls of shmups. But its really a good one! Pro: - Great Art, Graphic Design - Insanely strong otherworldy atmosphere - Cool looking bosses - good sound effects & music - The satisfaction... if you can survive ANY level on ANY mode. CONS: - Game is so hard even on easy, its a joke - No pause - No checkpoints (and the game demands it, trust me) - Text-to-speach narration - Insanely difficult level starts, where u can lose 2-3 life instantly

OK, seriously: this is a hidden gem! If you like R-Type, Katakis and all that stuff go and get it!
Remote Life is a very unique, intriguing and creative game that i watched from early development until release, it was worth the wait and every time i boot this up i know i am in for a treat!
Awesome old school game! This game looks like what R-Type would have been if it had been made in 2020. Amazing gameplay, and challenging! Great graphics, sound, and missions. And I don't even mention end-level bosses! Totally a classic fast-paced shooter experience!
I have to give this a thumbs down because for all the promise it shows, there is an overall lack of quality in every area except visual design. It feels like a game where the studio built out the game in full, but just released it before putting in the polish. There's no real transition between levels, sound effects are missing, level design feels half baked, and even though the music is good for what it wants to be, it's sloppily incorporated. Level design: Levels have a lot of FU moments that just feel inappropriate. The second actual mission, for example, begins with a power-up to collect and some things to shoot to your left. Fun. Except if you spend to shooting them, you might not notice that on the right of the screen, a door was closing and you die now, but have to wait for the auto-scroll to push you into it. Not fun. Waiting for doors to open while you have nothing to shoot is also a big problem in the level design. Overall, there is just a lack of understanding in how to structure levels in order to emphasize the mechanics and fun of the game, partially due to an over-use of cramped environments. For one last example, you might often get drones which fire shots alongside you fro 10 seconds and this kind of temporary power-up would feel really great... if only the levels then provided enemies to kill after getting them. But the corridors are often so cramped that your shots hit their targets while your drone fires at the wall. I could go on about other areas I think were lacking, or parts that I think were really good, but the level design really saps most of the enjoyment I could otherwise get out of this and I had to ask for a refund.
It's like R-Type/Darius with the enemy/stage art style, but if H.R. Giger made the art, completely worth playing if just for the visuals, and yet, the game itself is very competent. Controls are tight, simple on a keyboard, and fun with a controller, but I will say I encountered some difficulty navigating menus when using the Steam Deck. The game isn't verified for the SD yet, so that's hardly a criticism, and I'll just say it's a great experience overall.
