Kinda suspicious that there are a lot of russian reviews praising it for the visuals. And they all kinda sound the same. I wonder if they actually launched it. But what actually kills it (aside of poor Unity lanscape designs) is laggy input. Once you commited this crime in a first person game as a developer, there is no excuse for you. You're doomed.
Remnants of a Beautiful Day is a calm horror game where you expereince the autumn season and much more magical stuff!
It could have been such a beautiful day. Instead, it turned into a nightmare of confusing graphics, an effect orgy, where I got lost due to unconfigurable inputs disabling me to pass obstacles borrowed from old arcade games, wrapped in sugar-sweet shader beauty. If I would have been able to enjoy this beauty till the end, I could have recommended this game. But frustration came too soon, for a game that was promoted as casual experience. Repeating a scene over and over for jumping into a graphic stutter or waiting a moment too long is not my kind of joy.
Remnants of a wasted time on some bull**** YOU TAKE A FEW STEPS TO THE RIGHT AND GAME ENDS. LITERALLY. THERE'S NOTHING MORE. You can go left to explore, but it's a dead end.
"Remnants of a Beautiful Day" is a first person walking simulator that tries to be beautiful, but that's about it. It however doesn't do a good job at all in its attempt to be visually pleasing but you can at least tell that the effort was at least put in. Even on max settings/resolution the graphics still aren't as aesthetically nice. There is little to nothing going for this game as there isn't a linear story (if one at all). Even the store page doesn't elaborate any further about the game. I guess it's only purpose was to evoke a surreal feeling and a surreal feeling only but I did not feel anywhere near like this. I was more confused than anything. Something that might have turned the tables was an actual story, this could steer the player away from being confused because they don't know what they're doing or why they're doing what they're doing. Had a simple plot been implemented, it could've gave this game at least a bit of potential to be interesting. I do like walking simulators but this one did not speak to me. Controls are clunky, somewhat delayed and feels like you're walking on a grid. Jumping sends you about 3 inches off the floor and landing causes you to freeze in position for half a second before allowing you to walk again. There are little options with customization and you cannot rebind keys to my knowledge. There are platforming bits but the controls do not compliment the obstacles you need to conquer. There is some replayability with the multiple endings but unfortunately, I only found two endings and can't bring myself to play anymore of this because of how boring it is.
Spoiler

One area that is incredibly flawed is the part where you're running from a faceless ball with an enormous mouth consuming everything in it's path down a seemingly endless hallway. At any random given interval, your character will turn back, checking on the distance of the pursuer. There is no warning when you will do this so while you're holding "W" and running away, your character will randomly turn around without warning, and now you're running towards the threat. Whilst this happens, there are trees, monsters, and hands blocking your way to safety, so the fact that you're not in full control when running for your life brings a whole new level of frustration when playing because there's no fairness. Indicator would have helped or maybe: no double taking at all. This is the kind of thing people in horror movies do and ultimately die because of it. Turning back to check how close the threat is? Fine, but every 5 seconds?
Final thought: Even on an intense sale, this wouldn't be worth grabbing. On the other hand, you can play most of the game in less than 2 hours and refund it if you really feel so inclined to do.
It feels like a sandbox map where you just walk around aimlessly: I have no idea where I'm supposed to go. And achievements are broken anyway: https://steamcommunity.com/app/466830/discussions/0/1474222499228602516/
还行吧。 Not Bad
Meh. This game kinda feels like the creators had a lot of half-finished CG models floating around on their hard drive that they decided to mash together into a mediocre platforming engine and make a "game". Kinda interesting, but ultimately it feels more like a tech demo than a game. Unfortunately, the game also doesn't seem to know just how big your character is, so you're constantly getting caught on ledges and edges that look like they should just be set decoration. There were also several times when I wasn't certain if things disappearing and reappearing was intentional or just a super buggy game. I think most were intentional, but there's no real good way to be sure. The whole thing just feels really really unpolished. Final Verdict: An intersting idea, but I think that's all that we have here.
