It brings a lot of time-tested survival horror elements to the table mixed with a couple of new ones. As an under-development project, I won’t go much over its poor horror elements but the one thing that is truly going for Reficul 666 is its creep factor. The horror and freaky elements of the game don’t really jump out at you, its more of a haunting slow approach, which is enough to creep anyone out. Plot: The world is in disbelief, as one by one the world is losing every country and continent to darkness. Total communication blackout, nothing works! And it’s approaching America. You turn on the TV to find out what’s going on as the experts are horrified and in disbelief. They start to speculate; this might be a solar flare that’s causing all the blackouts. As the expert starts to explain deeper, he goes off the air, and the news is cut short. The National Guard urges everyone to remain indoors and to stock up on water, food, and essentials. Living in a small town in North America, my elder brother goes out to check up on the neighbor. He leaves me notes with instructions on what to do next. He warns about shadowy figures attacking people at random and demonic creatures roaming around. He leaves me a 9mm pistol, a couple of magazines, and a flashlight to defend myself. He tells me to meet him at our neighbor’s house across the street. But no one was there; all I found was notes. Now I must find my brother and friends in this haunting darkness full of shadowy figures and demonic creatures roaming around town. Gameplay: The game is super minimalistic with a simplistic UI, controls, and overall gameplay. As you start, you are greeted with a very unusual news broadcast intro, unusual for all the wrong reasons. First of all, the tone of the voice and the expressions are totally wrong. You’re reporting on a haunting and mysterious event, so why are the reporter’s and the expert’s expressions of amusement, like they are reporting a piece of glamour news! Where’s the fear? Where’s the anxiety of not knowing what’s going on? That intro made no sense and on top of that every time you start the game the intro starts playing. Moving past that, the game starts off with a mini-tutorial, which is not skippable. It’s fairly well done, and educates the player about the game’s features and what you can expect from the game. The gameplay consists of a lot of simple yet effective gameplay choices theme/story-wise. Simple WASD slow movement controls, which works pretty well with the theme of the game in the darkness, but I can’t tell the difference between walking and running as both are so slow. The shooting machines work well, but still a bit sluggish, which I’m totally fine with; I expect that to get polished out soon. Two things that really bothered me throughout my playthrough are –
1. Poor navigation; you’re expected to be placed and explore, but there are very few obvious markers and the map is poorly made. 2. Reusing the same resources over and over again! It’s a new game under development but still, the game's main focus is on exploration and survival, and it’s pretty easy to notice the reused resources and materials.
Things that I really liked –
1. Although the game’s horror elements need some major work, it does a really good job of creeping people out with it’s grainy dark silent atmosphere to it’s dark shadowy figures slowly creepy towards you. 2. The game does a great job at maintaining a slow-moving haunting environment. 3. The shadowy figures and the demons are nowhere near perfect or near the end product (at least I hope that’s the case), but they did their job just right. I felt a sense of tension when I saw them or when I felt their presence. Genuinely got creeped out.
World design: Absolutely loved the dark, grainy, sweaty silent environment and the atmosphere it created. The outlook of the buildings was haunting and I didn’t feel comfortable walking in, but walking out it was a different story. The fact that all the materials and resources are used again and again totally detracts from the survival aspect of the game. Seeing the styles of the rooms and items throughout the game with only minor changes got annoying very quickly. Music and sound effects: The music is just fine; it fits the game’s theme and sets the atmosphere. The sound effects need some more work. Positives: + Decently story + Atmospheric + Haunting + Fitting background music + Simplistic gameplay elements + As yet unpolished but well put -together figures and demons Negatives: - Poor performance - Good amount of screen tearing - A lot of reused materials and resource - The sound effects need some work - The map and navigation need some work All hell breaks loose as the world slowly plunges into darkness and chaos. And now you are left alone to fend for yourself, you must survive the dark night. 6/10 Key provided by the developer/publisher for review purposes. Any opinions expressed are entirely my own! Do not buy that piece of tr*sh, it's not even fun bad. You will notice most of the positive reviews are people that got the game for free. It's really boring, 99% of the time you will be walking because you can't run and they make you do a lot of back and forth. Stay away. Edit : Played the game again on hell difficulty. They claim the game has rogue-like elements, challenging gameplay with random ennemies and random story/objectives with each new game, ok but how ? I did not see that at all and I played 2 games on normal and 1 on hell difficulty. There is no rogue-like elements to that game, no permadeath, no procedural generation of levels, nothing. The game isn't challenging at all, I had 30 painkillers when I finished the game on hell difficulty and more than 100 bullets, knowing the most dangerous ennemi is the dark spirit that take 1 bullet to kill and the demon that flee like a pu**y every time you shoot him, how is that challenging ? There is no ennemi variety, you have the dark spirit, the zombie, the demon and the big demon (the boss), that's it and they alway appear in the same order so random my as*. The story and objectives also aren't random, it's alway the same path with the same objectives every game. This game really feel like a scam, for real stay away it's garbage. It had the potential to be fun bad but it's just really f*cking bad.
- presses E key - hears creaking sound Absolutely hideous experience. Also the news reporter had a suppressed lurid grin. Also, send my best regard to the professor for obtaining his degree at such a young age. Seriously, you get thrown in a village with no idea where to go and it's as fun as paying the Rai canon.
Reficul 666 is just another low-budget first person indie horror game that will probably never come out of early access. Gameplay is just wondering around a neighborhood in the pitch dark where all you can see is a small circle of light from a flashlight or lighter while black ghost-like entities sneak up on you and deplete your health. I experienced constant random frame rate drops no matter what graphic setting using an RTX2080 and i9 processor. The flashlight also causes a strange texture dithering on the ground. You also constantly run out of lighter fluid and batteries. The rain sound also does not get any quieter when entering houses and the interiors of the houses all look the same. I could also hear the rain but not see any rain no matter what graphic option I selected. Trying to use certain items and open doors also caused me to fire my gun if the cursor was not placed exactly. I also found the inventory system awkward and entering the inventory does not pause the game. Objectives and finding locations on the map are also confusing and I often just wondered around aimlessly until I lost interest. Overall, I didn't enjoy my time spent with this game and I cannot recommend it.
This game is scary af. The whispers are really getting to me, good job! The small scale open-world reminds me a lot of Silent Hill!
It was fun for me but I don't scare easily anyway, and being old school the KB+M worked flawlessly ,with nothing moving at light speed to require a game pad of any type.Again you are not spoon fed how to do it, so you have to work that out for yourself . It was twice as long once I found the portal to the catacombs but at no time did I feel under threat. You'll know within minutes yourself whether its a keeper or not for you.Still did not get that elusive 'secret' achievement ,but maybe that is it's replay ability factor right there?
Судить только Вам, вот для Вас геймплей :https://youtu.be/uPdBwkku758 Вообще для меня показалось достаточной тягомотиной
You find yourself in a small abandoned town and start following notes left by residents, hoping to figure out what happened and find any survivors. The biggest challenge is finding the right spots on the map and getting to the next location without being killed by monsters. The overall design is simple, but the game has a nice creepy atmosphere. Sound effects are on point. When you hear demon noises, run!
I’d originally been aware that MAG Studios was working on a VR title called Reficul (which took me longer than it should to work out that’s ‘Lucifer’ backwards) but as I don’t own a VR headset I didn’t follow it too closely. But when MAG told me about this version I was very excited, particularly having experienced their excellent Ghostship trilogy. At the time of writing the review I’ve completed the game twice - but I’ll make it clear now, MAG have said that this is just the beginning and there’s a lot more to come, including the signature ‘random narrative’ the developer is known for. The setting is described as ‘post apocalyptic’ which conjures up images of dry deserts and ruined civilisations (NieR:Automata-style) but this is quite the contrary. Think affluent close-knit leafy American suburb with big white houses and large driveways - but abandoned, at night, in the rain. This setting creates a false sense of security - an implication that you’ll be able to thrive in a familiar setting but just play the tutorial and you’ll see how this only adds to the tense feeling of dread as there is something seriously wrong with the world. As the game begins you can hear bizarre noises outside your house from odd bass tones to sinister whispers and you can explore the open-world town as you want but you’ll need to complete the objectives to advance the story whilst avoiding or fighting the threats you encounter. But this is first-person survival horror through-and-through so you’ll need to look after your resources carefully - from your ever-depleting flashlight to your limited pistol ammo - know when to run and when to fight. This time it’s not about viruses in labs or shambling hordes or zombies; as the game’s name implies it’s about the forces of Hell so expect demons and blood. It’s challenging at first, particularly as the game doesn’t like to hold your hand but you can discover effective routes through the town, learn the best places to find the resources you need, and familiarise yourself with enemy patterns which makes me think this could become a speedrunner’s delight. Looking forward to seeing where this goes next! 8/10 - Redfield Gaming
